What I Bought In June - Chloe Ethel Bag!

Short and sweet what I bought post this month! While I made it through April and May without making any fashion purchases, June ended up much like March - I stumbled across a handbag on eBay I'd been thinking about at a price I couldn't resist, so I made another impulse buy.

What I Bought In June:

I've you've followed my blog since the early days this bag may look a little familiar to you - I had a pink version of this bag in 2012/2013 that I often regretted selling! As mentioned in the video I'd been thinking about it lately and searching a few sites for it, looking at options when I got rewarded at work with a gift card a few weeks ago, that spurred me on to buy this!

You haven't seen this pop up on the blog or even my Instagram yet. I'd been trying to find a place that could fix up the weak point on the strap around the local area, so it wasn't being worn while I was taking the strap out to the cobblers. No luck with that sadly, as I talked through in the video, but at least I have a few places in mind to go to if the strap does snap, ha!

I'm really looking forward to wearing this. I have my "wear twice in the month you buy it" rule for all new purchase that this bag hasn't met, but given the colour I know it will work with a lot of things in my wardrobe. I did get it right at the start of June but between authenticating, cleaning it up, trying to find a cobbler, the rain and our little 3 day lockdown we had in Brisbane recently there hasn't been a chance to wear it before I drafted up this post.

In lieu of a how I wore it, these are the pics I texted to my bestie when I tried it on immediately after it arrived!

Now hopefully I can copy what I did in April and March and make it through July without buying any fashion items - for my sixth year of attempting No Buy July! While I'm not near the budget I set myself this year I am getting near the fashion spend I achieved last year and I'm curious to see if I can pull off such a low spend again this year!

I'm going to try the Slow Fashion Season #FashionDetox challenge too. Buying no new fashion from July to September. We will see how I go!

  2. How nice that you got a gift card at work and you used it for a great bag. I think the color of this bag will make it one you can use often. I hope the strap holds up!

    1. So far it hasn't caused me any troubles - and if it does break I guess I'll just go get the weak point cut out and replaced like the cobblers suggested.

  31. That's a lovely bag in a fabulous neutral colour, Mica! How cool that you know exactly when it was purchased, too. It made me happy that you're accepting of its age and condition - a bag that is well-loved has its own personality, doesn't it?

Looking at your "damage" - leather wear like that on the strap should be fine. Leather is really strong, and it's not going to break unless it's subjected to high stress (believe me, I see a lot of cracks like that in vintage belts and purses). Trust the leather.

I enjoyed your bloopers. :) Have a fabulous weekend, my dear friend!

    1. Yes I don't mind the signs of age - it's still a great bag! Thanks so much for your advice too. I'd decided after I posted to just wear the bag anyway - if the strap has to be cut to be fixed I may as well wear it till it snaps but you're right it's holding up well! I just won't use those holes to adjust the strap at all as I think that may be too much for it. But worn crossbody it's holding up perfectly!

  34. If you know you regretted letting this bag go in another color in the past, then you definitely know you'll get a lot of use out of this new one in a nice, neutral color :). Hopefully the leather strap will be able to hold up!

I've recently decided to go on the secondhand market for a Balenciaga City and I thought of you because I know Balenciaga is a brand you really like! (I'm probably getting a black lambskin one with classic hardware, a very common style that's super-easy to find on the secondhand market...)

    1. Yes I have been lucky so far the strap seems to be holding up well - I just won't rearrange the strap to use those holes to shorten it - I wanted to wear it crossbody anyway! :)
Good luck with your bag search - preloved Bals are so affordable and they already have that great slouch so I think you will be very happy when you find one!

  35. I am glad you bought this bag. I understand how you must be constantly thinking about the bag. I do that too. If I need to buy something I must. If I don't it is always on my mind. :-) I love the color:-) Today we got the chance to visit mall as we had to buy specs. It felt good to go out after a long time. Have a lovely day Mica.
