I thought attempting 6 months without shopping would give me time to wear and enjoy what's in my wardrobe and rack up 30 wears. But if I want to get 30 wears of something in these 6 months, that's wearing something 5 times a month on average. That's more than once a week.
Since I own much more than a week's worth of outfits wearing things 30 times isn't often achieved. There are a few pieces I've already clocked up 30 wears of, but they are mainly accessories. Even my most worn kimono has only got 20 wears so far! I thought I'd be able to feature it in this post until I saw that count. Wearing everything you own 30 times sounded like a bit of a challenge, but I didn't realise just how difficult it would be for someone like me with such a large wardrobe.
I'd really like to show something other than an accessory or a maxi skirt in this 30 wears series soon, but as I'm challenging myself to find something every month to share, it means that this month it's going to be another maxi skirt. A printed one at least, so a little different from the plain one I featured previously.
#30Wears: Target Black and White Striped Jersey Maxi Skirt
I've worn this maxi skirt 44 times, so it was difficult narrowing down to just 30 outfits! I really like this skirt. Purchased it while pregnant with (now Toddler) T as I wanted something stretchy and comfortable. I'm amazed I'm still loving and wearing it over 3 years later, and to have gotten through another pregnancy with it. There is no sign of wear on it either, still as stretchy and comfortable as ever so it will be worn a lot more in the future.
Striped Maxi Skirt in a Monochrome Outfit
A classic black and white maxi skirt makes an easy monochrome outfit. You can pair it with white, grey or black and not worry about looking boring as the stripe print adds an extra bit of interest to the outfit.
Black and White Striped Maxi Skirt with Colourful Tops
A colourful tee or tank really pops against a black and white base. You can go bright with blue or purple or stick with another neutral like olive.Striped Maxi Skirt and Scarves
I like to wear my maxi skirts year round, and when the weather cools a little a scarf is a great addition to a maxi skirt outfit to keep you cosy in autumn or spring. You can even do a little pattern mixing with a printed scarf. Stripes are so easy to pair with other prints.Black and White Striped Maxi Skirt in Winter
While you do need to do a little more layering and perhaps wear boots, I've never had any issues wearing my maxi skirts in winter. Of course we don't get snow in Brisbane which helps!
Striped Maxi Skirt in Pregnancy: Second Trimester
I originally bought this maxi skirt in pregnancy when I was looking for something that would fit a growing baby bump. It was affordable, comfortable and stretchy. I had no idea I'd love and wear it so much that it would be worn through two pregnancies and beyond!Striped Maxi Skirt in Pregnancy: Third Trimester
In the third trimester you outgrow a lot of the non-maternity pieces in your wardrobe that worked in the first and second trimesters. I ended up making a pregnancy capsule wardrobe last time with pieces I knew would fit and wore that for the final trimester. Luckily the elastic waist on this maxi skirt comfortably accommodated a growing bump. In fact it was the last thing I wore before Toddler T made his overdue appearance into the world.Jersey Stripe Maxi Skirt in PostPartum Days
The stretchy waistband that made this skirt so good during pregnancy also makes it a perfect choice in the early post-partum days where your stomach changes daily and you need something quick and easy to wear as it's going to get covered in baby spit up anyway! Paired with a oversized tee or a cosy soft knit it's a comfortable outfit option to help you feel pulled together on little sleep. You'll know from reading my blog that I obviously have a bit of a maxi skirt obsession, but I think this post illustrates quite well why I adore them so much. You can wear them so many different ways.
I think I bought this for $20 (or something close to that), so at 44 wears that's 45 cents a wear, for those who like to calculate cost per wear. Not bad for an impulsive pregnancy purchase over 3 years ago!

Wow, well done! I would be hard pressed to find something in my wardrobe (that isn't a pair of trusty shoes) that I've worn 30+ times! That skirt is a real staple for you!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely is a staple! :)
DeleteI love your striped maxi skirt! It looks so comfortable yet stylish! And girl, I adore your bags! I think you have amazing bag collection!
ReplyDelete- Gretch of GG Memochou
This is awesome!! Congrats and well done! Such a versatile piece, as you've shown.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it being pretty difficult to get 30 wears put of something when you have so much choice. Clothes are not a problem for me, I have worn many pieces that often, but red lipsticks... I have too many ro ever use one regularly.
ReplyDeleteLinda, Libra, Loca: Beauty, Baby and Backpacking
Yes I think if I had a smaller wardrobe I'd get more use out of what I own...definitely gives me things to think about as I'm on my no-buy challenge!
DeleteLove this post! As a short girl myself it can be difficult sometimes to style a maxi skirt, I do love the look though!!
ReplyDeleteThis one is so petite friendly - I haven't had to alter it at all! :)
DeleteLOVE this maxi and all the ways you've worn it! Unless I was just counting jeans, shoes, or tees, I definitely don't think I'd get 30 wears out of my clothes!
ReplyDeleteBy Lauren M
It's surprising when you realise that isn't it?
DeleteSo many great ways to wear your striped maxi!! I love seeing a piece that gets a lot of wear.

This skirt is gorgeous, I have been looking for one of these but since I am so short they are so long on me!

I think you did a brilliant job with the maxi skirt and yes, I understand why you love them so much, they are so versatile and pretty much go with everything. I should add a couple into my wardrobe as well, I probably get lots of wear out of them too. I don't have problem with clothes as I don't have too many but makeup, that's a whole different matter.
ReplyDeletehaha yes I think everyone has their thing they like to spend on! :)
DeleteIn love with this skirt!!!

WOW I admire your ability to do this SO MUCH! I get the most wear out of bags and shoes, but to make so many outfits out of one skirt is commendable! I love all of them.

When you think about wearing something more than once a week, it really is a lot! Sometimes I don't even really get dressed for the day in this stage of life when I am only working part time and staying home with Ivy the other days. I am impressed you did it! This skirt is super versatile. I love seeing it worn in pregnancy and not. Really shows how great a buy it was.

Straight A Style
It was such a good buy! :) Once Ivy is bigger you'll find it easier to get out of the house and get dressed every day - no need to rush it, stay home and enjoy all the snuggles you want! :)
DeleteI can totally see why you love this skirt! It's so versatile!
ReplyDeleteVery well done Mica ! you have demonstrated how one item can go a long way, regardless of your condition (pregnant or not), regardless of the weather (hot or cold) or where you are going... superb!
ReplyDeleteI really think maxi skirts are so versatile! :)
DeleteSuch cute outfits styled with that maxi skirt! That's what I love about stripes, they're so versatile! Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great week ahead!

I can totally get your point! I also got a very large wardrobe, and I don't really get to wear the pieces I love the most very often! Indeed, we are making the most of our bags, shoes, accessories and jeans! You did a great job in styling the striped black and white maxi skirt in so many ways! I wouldn't be able to do it, haha. Oh girl, I get you! Remember my vinyl OTK boots? They got a lot of weird looks on the street but who cares haha. As I told you before, I LOVE LOVE LOVE these trousers! They fit you perfect and the color is to die for! Really need a pair like this one in my life. Have a lovely week! <3

although I think you accidentally pasted the second part of your comment I agree with the first bit! :) Accessories are the most worn pieces in my wardrobe, that's why I invest so much in them! :)
DeleteThis is impressive!!! I love how you can style it so many different ways and it can be dressed up or down! I actually don't even own a maxi skirt but your post is making me think I need one ASAP! :) Thanks for sharing with us at On Mondays We Link-Up!

Trendy & Tidy
They are definitely wardrobe staples for me!
DeleteI am so impressed with how many ways you've worn this and for different seasons! I really like it with the bright blue!
ReplyDeleteIt is one of those multi-season must haves for me! :)
DeleteYou are doing well with your challenges. I'm tracking how many times I wear a new item this year so I can do cost per wear and it is gratifying to get items down to cents!! It also helps me see what hasn't been worn yet and curb impulses!
ReplyDeleteOh I hope you'll share that in your wrap up posts, it will be fascinating to see! :)
DeleteSo cute! I love the versatility of the maxi. I usually have trouble styling it for me, though, so it's awesome that you shared these. Great options!
ReplyDeleteI used to be a little unsure of them too, hope I could give you some inspiration! :)
DeleteOh wow, it feels great to look back at your photos isn't it? ♥ My favorites were the ones paired with gray and the purple shirt! How lovely. :) Btw, if you're looking for a site to shop online, you may check out these links: https://goo.gl/glwHDg AND http://3rdshop.com?rfsn=543534.5f0016 Hope to hear from you soon! x

You did a great job creating so many different outfits with the stripes maxi skirt! 30 wears is a really big challenge and I don't think I would have done any good at it. My wardrobe is lacking of maxi skirts, I should get some spring ones :)
ReplyDeleteEla BellaWorld
I think they are great year-round pieces! :)
DeleteI love it how you rock maxi skirts! By the way, I always wondered how tall are you?
ReplyDeletewearing something 30 times sounds impossible to me yet it's easier because I normally change during the day ones. Or.. does my active wear count?)

Active wear definitely counts! It's an interesting challenge to set :)
DeleteI'm only 5"2 but find I don't need to hem these Target maxi skirts at all, they are great on me! :)
I loved this post! And I am no where near pregnant or married, lol! What I love is literally how many different creations you can make with the same skirt over and over. That for me is the most cost effective part of your whole project-- the amount of outfits you have just saved by being resourceful and creating outfits from the same one source. xx
ReplyDeletehttps://cynicalduchess.blogspot.com
hehe yes still lots of other outfit ideas outside of pregnancy - it is a versatile skirt! It's amazing how many outfits you can create from one piece too :)
DeleteI have items in my wardrobe that I have worn 30+ times but I haven't worn them in 30+ DIFFERENT ways. I tend to wear them with the same couple of combos. This post is truly inspiring and I am going to make an effort to change up my outfit combos more as a result!

I won't always be sharing 30 unique ways, I think it's the first time I've done that for one of these posts actually, haha! IT's not always easy to do :)
DeleteThat striped maxi skirt is so cute, and I love the ways you styled it :)
ReplyDeleteI love that skirt, clearly is SO versatile. I'm so impressed with your dedication to get 30 wears out of your items. It does sound like you can get to that number easily, but then the more I think about it I realize it's harder than it sounds!
ReplyDeleteYes I'm hoping I achieve it more later in the year, it's a shame I haven't hit it on a lot of things!
DeleteWow great job. I find it very difficult to do this, I would run out of ideas and I would probably wear the same combo again and again!!

THanks! It's good to get more wear out of my wardrobe! :)
DeleteGreat job on rocking and styling that skirt over 40 times! it's such a great versatile piece. I lived in maxi dresses during my first pregnancy and loved the easy fit. I am totally going to look for a maxi skirt and dress now!
ReplyDeleteYes maxis are perfect in pregnancy! :)
DeleteClothing that can be worn both during pregnancy and postpartum makes me so happy! I have added a lot of maternity clothing this time around, and it bums me out because in a year, I know it won't fit right. I have added several tunic style tops that have a fair amount of stretch to them, so I can get use of them both now and later. (: Love your maxi style!
ReplyDeleteSometimes though you just need to be comfortable! :) I ended up passing on a lot of my maternity things to a pregnant friend, who promised to pass them on again when she was done with them...so it's not a complete waste getting some maternity pieces! :)
DeleteMica, you are good at this! I wouldn't have made it! LOL I love the tops & scarves you paired with this skirt. ALL of them look really good.

That skirt is super cute, love it!
