Corporate Style: Maternity Pencil Skirts and Grey Tees in Summer, Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAB Bag

I will always love a grey tee! Even after my wardrobe detox session and finding out that grey wasn't the best colour for me, I still wear it and still have a bunch of grey tees in my wardrobe. They are just so easy to wear. And thankfully, my very relaxed 'business casual' office dress code makes a tee and a pencil skirt an easy outfit for a day without a lot of face-to-face meetings.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Second Trimester Office Wear Grey tee Asos maternity pencil skirt

AwayFromTheBlue | Rebecca Minkoff MAM Hermes Kelly double tour bracelet rubis
Necklace: Diva red stone necklace
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
SkirtAsos maternity graphic print pencil skirt (non-maternity version here)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs studded mouse flats in grey (on sale in black)
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes Kelly double tour bracelet in rubis
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

This was the first outfit for the Fox in Flats style challenge, the theme was 'stripes' so I thought the graphic stripe print on this pencil skirt worked well, especially when worn with my favourite grey tee.

I added the red necklace for a bit of colour with the otherwise fairly monochrome outfit - and also as that was one of the tips the stylist gave me. If I insisted on keeping my grey tees (I did keep most of them...) then I should try to wear colourful accessories with them.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, grey tee, graphic print pencil skirt, studded mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB.

Other ways to weargrey tee for casual Friday, graphic print pencil skirt and a black tank, studded mouse flats and denim shorts, casual SAHM outfits with Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Pregnancy Office Wear Asos maternity tartan pencil skirt monochrome outfit

AwayFromTheBlue | Rebecca Minkoff MAM Hermes Kelly En Caleche twilly bracelet
Necklace: pink beaded disc necklace (maybe Diva? Really old!)
TeeAsos new forever grey tee (on sale!)
SkirtAsos maternity panelled pencil skirt in tartan check (non-maternity version here)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes twilly Kelly en Calèche tied as bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

Again, going with the easy option of a grey tee and a printed pencil skirt. The style challenge for the day was 'new do' and as I'd got my hair cut the day before I just fell back on this simple outfit as the summer heat usually gets me feeling pretty uninspired and looking for easy options. That's why the DAREcember style challenge is so great, at a time I want to do nothing other than sit in the pool in a bikini, I'm encouraged to explore my wardrobe, try different things and have some fun with my clothes. I've shared more before about why I love instagram style challenges.

I just wouldn't go do anything as permanent as actually get a new haircut for a challenge next time, I regretted the cut pretty quickly! Thankfully I still have some unshared pics with my longer hair as I figure out how to style the new length.

Last worn: grey tee, tartan pencil skirt, Hermes twilly, cap toe flats, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB (above).

Other ways to wear: grey tee layered up for winter, tartan pencil skirt and a ruffled cami, two tone flats and tights, Hermes twilly bow on a bagRebecca Minkoff MAM and a printed dress.

Asos is a great place to pick up some bargain pencil skirts that really last - I have skirts over 5 years old that are still going strong, and this is the second pregnancy for these maternity skirts! Plus you can get up to 70% off in their outlet.

  1. I love both of your outfits; pencil skirts look great on you! I wish I could wear them, but I'm too short for them to look really nice haha. I love the bag too, it's so casual and cute! :)

    1. I'm a shortie too! :) I find some are too long on me but these asos ones are perfect :)

  2. Your hair looks lovely - I love the new length!

I'm not one for t-shirts (too casual for my taste), but I do love both of these pencil skirts, particularly the top one. Such a fab pattern! And I agree, pops of colour really help break up all that grey! Looking great, Mica!

    1. You manage to find the most stylish alternatives to tees! They are definitely a frequent fall-back for me :)

  3. I think grey is versatile, and I don't believe in sticking to colors only that I know "flatter" me, I want to wear others as well sometimes.
The new length will take some time getting accustomed to, but the way you did your hair here looks pretty, and tbh, I wouldn't have been able to tell you cut it if you hadn't mentioned it in the text.

    1. Thanks Linda! I think it's just that it feels so short rather than actually being short, if that make sense! Just had regret cutting it off after it was growing so nicely.

  16. I totally dig the whole outfit, but definitely am drawn to the skirt as my favorite piece! This is actually an outfit style I sort of wish was easier to pull off for me, I guess I've never found enough tops that look appropriately fitted enough...? All of my solid tops seem to be baggy here or there and result in the outfit not looking put-together enough without a cardigan or something, which isn't the point in the heat, Australian summer or no!

    1. I think it's hard to find the perfect tops sometimes! These two are usually rally baggy, I prefer them that way, but in pregnancy they are a lot more fitted over the bump, haha!

  20. I love your hair, I think it's cute shorter! I have to disagree with the stylist here--I don't think you can go wrong with gray! But I do love how the bright necklaces pop against it. Also, I know I've said this before, but your maternity pencil skirts are so cute!

  21. I do agree with you. Grey tops are very practical...Grey is often an underestimated colour. I personally find it to me very elegant, but I'm not sure it matches my skin tone. Maybe I need to find 'my shade'. They say everyone has a shade of every colour that is right for them.

You look divine in both looks. I'm a big fan of pencil skirts and you wear them so well.

  24. I'm always regretting new haircuts afterwards as well, Mica! That's why I avoid my hairdresser, haha! I'm totally with you on grey tees, I'm the same. I have lots of white t-shirts but choose grey most of the time. Your first look is amazing, beautiful printed skirt. And look at your huge belly on #2. Are you getting a boy, dear? (If not a secret.) :) Take care!

BTW I would die if I was told grey is not my colour. I love grey, I can't live without it plus it breaks up my usual plain white or black pieces ;o)
