Weekday Wear Linkup! Frill Sleeve Tees and Pencil Skirts

A new week and a new weekday wear linkup! This week I'm sharing some business casual outfits that are more on the casual side, with frill sleeve tees and pencil skirts. Come link up your weekday wear below!

What I wore:

navy frill sleeve tee with grey pencil skirt yellow beaded statement necklace for the office | awayfromblue

navy tee and Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in moon navy with heart tassel bag charm | awayfromtheblue

TeeJeanswest Ruby frill sleeve Ric Rac detailed tee in deep iris (on sale!)
SkirtJeanswest zip detail ponte pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne Ava White leopard ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in moon navy

Why I wore it:

I really like blue and yellow together, so I when I wanted a statement necklace to help dress up this navy tee a little I settled on this yellow beaded one quite quickly! I really liked the combination. The #summerStyleFile style challenge on Instagram had leopard as the prompt, so I decided to add just a little leopard print with these fun Walnut Melbourne ballet flats. Worked so nicely with the neutral outfit.

I had a pretty quiet day at work - but did have a blazer handy to further dress up my tee in case an unexpected meeting came up. And for when the office aircon got too cold!

Last worn: navy frill sleeve tee, yellow statement necklace, black pencil skirt, leopard print ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote.

Other ways to wearnavy frill sleeve tee with pink shorts, black pencil skirt for YouTube event, leopard print ballet flats and little black dress, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in winter.

Perfect for pregnancyblack pencil skirt in first trimester, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in third trimester.

In Case You Missed It: I Donated My Hair!

I shared this over on YouTube this weekend, I cut a massive 38 cm off my hair to donate it to Variety (to make wigs for kids with cancer).

I still have quite a backlog of long hair pics to get through before you'll see my shorter locks pop up on the blog.

What I wore:

hot pink frill sleeve tee jeanswest black pencil skirt statement crystal necklace business casual office style | away from blue

TeeJeanswest Ruby frill sleeve tee in fuchsia
Skirt:  Jeanswest black ponte pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in moon navy

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit combo above so much, I wore the same thing again the next day I was in the office. I picked a sparkly crystal statement necklace this time to go with the hot pink frill sleeve tee. I did feel that the pink tee made the necklace a bit muted - the pink crystals blended in a bit. Probably won't wear the two together again, its' a combination that worked better in my head than in person!

I had a bunch of meetings, but they were all virtual ones so my tee was perfectly appropriate. I ended up wearing my blazer for most of the day anyway, we were working in a different area of the office and my desk was right under the aircon vents!

Last worn: pink frill sleeve tee, statement crystal necklace, black pencil skirt, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote (above).

Other ways to wearpink frill sleeve tee and printed shorts, black pencil skirt and stripes, black ballet flats and printed dress, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote and sheath dress.

Perfect for pregnancyblack pencil skirt in second trimester, black ballet flats in third trimester, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in first trimester.

Frill Sleeve Tees Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A frill sleeve tee is a great twist on a classic tee, while remaining easy to wear. It can be dressed up for a business casual environment with a pencil skirt and statement necklace, or you could add a blazer if your dress code is more formal. It does hide the fun sleeves though!

Denim Shorts, Kimonos and Rebecca Minkoff Edie Cross Body Bag In Magenta

Although it's autumn in Brisbane, summer outfits can continue for a while before the really cold weather arrives! Simple tanks, printed kimonos and shorts with a cute colourful Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag are such easy stay at home mum outfits.

What I wore:

denim shorts, Rebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta | away from the blue

awayfromblue instagram navy tank denim shorts rebecca minkoff edie crossbody bag and purple kindness collective kimono

Necklace: blush pink and gold beaded tassel necklace
Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo C/O
Shortsthrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit, I thought all of the colours worked so well together. While the dominant colour in this printed kimono is purple, it has a bunch of other colours in it. I couldn't resist adding more colour with this magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie cross body bag. A neutral navy tank and blue denim shorts were an easy pairing with the rest of the colour. And then a blush necklace, for another little extra touch of colour.

Just a quiet day, doing the daycare drop off and pickup and working from home, before taking my son to an appointment in the afternoon. Such a comfortable outfit for that. I did wish I had picked a different tank in the afternoon heat though - this one is an old breastfeeding one, it's layered with hidden access for breastfeeding and on a hot day layered tops are not the best! Such a cute basic tank though, I'm still keeping it around long after finishing breastfeeding as you wouldn't know just by looking at it that it's a special piece.

Last worn: blush tassel necklace, purple printed kimono, navy tank, boyfriend denim shorts, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag.

Other ways to wearpurple printed kimono with stripes, navy tank and striped duster for travel, boyfriend denim shorts and red scarf, Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag and maxi dress.

Perfect for pregnancynavy tank in second trimester.

Why I wore it:

Another outfit with the same formula! A metallic tank this time, black denim shorts and a navy printed kimono. Again with the same magenta Rebecca Minkoff small Edie bag as, just like in the first outfit, I love how the magenta works with navy.

Didn't like this outfit as much as the one above though - even with swapping the Havaianas for studded sandals, this outfit just felt a bit plain. Was nice and simple for a day with the kids though, doing our usual playground and library routine with a couple of errands to run too.

Printed Tanks, Maxi Skirts and Red Rebecca Minkoff Saddle Bag

While I have been trying to remove duplicate things from my wardrobe, I could not resist picking up another black maxi skirt for $1 in the opshop. So now I have two black maxi skirts! I love wearing maxi skirts though and think they are both different enough to justify keeping them.

A nice plain maxi skirt means you can wear it with a fun printed top, and add some extra colour with accessories like this red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

What I wore:

printed rainbow tank with red rebecca minkoff saddle bag maxi skirt gold sandals | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | windy outfit pic outtake printed tank black maxi skirt
Necklace: Kmart gold and navy beaded necklace
Tank: thrifted Target mixed print colourful printed tank
SkirtJeanswest Luxe jersey maxi skirt
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

Such a windy day when I wore this! It was tricky getting a good photo with the breeze blowing my hair and skirt around. It was so nice having some breeze though as it had been another hot and humid week.

Pretty quiet day so just needed a simple outfit. Swim lessons and some errands to run before catching up with friends in the evening.

With the mixed print in this top and all the colours, a neutral black skirt was an obvious pairing. I couldn't resist matching the red in the top with this Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag. I just love the way this bag looks with maxi skirts, it's a frequently worn combo.

Last worn: mixed print tank, navy and gold bead necklace, black drawstring maxi skirt, gold sandals, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to wearmixed print tank and olive shorts, black drawstring maxi skirt and denim jacket, gold sandals at Christmas, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag and navy dress.

Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

Another windy day, another maxi skirt and printed tank outfit. This time I went overboard with the red, adding this red flat beaded necklace to my outfit to match the red saddle bag. I thought it would be nice to wear the skirt and necklace together, after I thrifted them both at the same time!

Another quiet day. Some time at the playground, a doctors appointment and a quick grocery shop. This maxi skirt was so nice to wear on such a hot but windy day, it flapped around a lot and kept me cool.

Last worn: red necklace, animal print tank, black ruffle hem maxi skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag (above).

Other ways to wearanimal print tank and shorts, black ruffle hem maxi skirt and a tee, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag worn 30 ways.

Weekday Wear Linkup! Wrap Tops and Blue Pencil Skirts With Pink City Bag

Two lovely wrap tops with navy textured pencil skirts with the Weekday Wear Linkup! I picked these wrap tops to wear as I was hunting through my wardrobe for more pieces to donate and I realised I hadn't worn these in a while. They were definitely overdue a wear.

What I wore:

monochrome navy outfit wrap top lace pencil skirt and pink Balenciaga city bag | awayfromblue

blue lace pencil skirt, sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag | awayfromtheblue

TopAtmos & Here Arlene wrap top in navy
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

This navy wrap top is such a comfortable piece to wear, because I sized up when I bought it as I was pregnant. I was surprised to see I hadn't worn this top and skirt together before, the navy lace works so well with the wrap top.

I added the pink Balenciaga city bag for a little extra burst of colour. I wasn't 100% happy with the shoes though, I think another pair would have worked better, maybe a silver pair like I wore below.

Last worn: navy wrap top, tassel earrings, initial necklace, lace pencil skirt, camel flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearnavy wrap top and shorts, lace pencil skirt in winter, camel flats and olive pants, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and denim shorts.

Perfect for pregnancynavy wrap top in third trimester, lace pencil skirt in second trimester, camel flats in third trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag at 37 weeks pregnant.

What's In My Bag: Balenciaga Sorbet City

TopAtmos&Here Nile wrap front jersey tee
SkirtWarehouse navy jacquard pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit above, I wore a similar outfit the next day I was in the office. I love taking an outfit and following the same formula to create something new without trying too hard! This time around it was my grey jersey wrap top and my navy jacquard pencil skirt. I picked silver flats this time, and liked the outfit a lot more. Surprised to see that this top hasn't been worn in over a year though!

Again I stuck with the pink Balenciaga city bag - it's a fun pop of colour! And swapped the grey earrings for these navy ones instead. While the earrings are gold, I still went with silver necklaces and I don't feel they looked out of place.

Last worn: grey wrap top, navy tassel earrings, star necklace, Silhoupette, jacquard pencil skirt, silver ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to weargrey wrap top and printed jeans, jacquard pencil skirt layered for wintersilver ballet flats and little black dress, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and monochrome shorts outfit.

Perfect for pregnancy: jacquard pencil skirt in first trimester, silver ballet flats in second trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag in second trimester.

Wrap Tops Under $50

How You Can Wear It

While wrap tops work great for breastfeeding (and it was the reason why I bought these tops!) they work equally well when you're not breastfeeding. They are a nice alternative to a plain top, and neutral colours like these mean they work well in an office. If you're looking for a wrap top that will do double duty for corporate style, ones with a modesty snap like these ones are a good way to go.

Bright Tanks Soft Shorts With Colourful Bags: Easy Summer SAHM Style

On a hot day, soft shorts like these are the best! Paired with simple tanks and colourful bag, it's easy mum style for summer.

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold with olive shorts | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | colourful mixed print tank with neutral olive shorts mustard rebecca minkoff regan bag
Necklace: Target silver Alisha trinity pendant necklace
Top: thrifted Target mixed print colourful printed tank (new purchase)
ShortsJeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

First wearing of my newly thrifted tank! I bought quite a few things over January and February! This was just $1 though so I had to have it. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it in the opshop and as I tried it on I realised it looked familiar. Ironing it after washing it, I thought more and I'm sure that I know someone with this exact top - not sure if it's a blogger or a friend! I messaged a few people I thought it might be but I haven't figured it out yet. It will be so funny when I figure out who has it. It's a Target one though so I might have just remembered walking past someone wearing it!

Didn't bump into anyone much on this day I wore it though - it was one of those super humid days, lots of heavy rain (I took my pics super quick then rushed inside to stay dry!) but still so hot. I did the daycare drop off and then worked from home for the day - briefly stepping out at lunch time to pick up a parcel at the post office I'd been waiting for since December!

With all the colours in the tank the neutral olive shorts seemed like the best choice, and they are so comfortable on a hot and humid day too. While the yellow in the tank isn't mustard, I thought this mustard micro Regan bag would make a great pairing with it, and I do love wearing this bag with these shorts.

Last worn: silver trinity necklace, olive embroidered shorts, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan bag. First time I've worn the tank as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearolive embroidered shorts and grey knit, Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan bag and little black dress.

My Favourite Rebecca Minkoff Bag:

TankJeanswest Maya gather back tank in mid turquoise
Shorts: Kmart culotte short in navy lemon print
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

Another simple tank and soft shorts combo - although this time it's a plain tank and printed shorts, the reverse of the first outfit. When I saw these shorts I debated getting them as I do have another pair of blue soft printed shorts, with a waist tie. But I figured as I'd worn those other ones more than 30 times these would also be a great addition to my wardrobe. And I have that post of 30 ways to wear blue printed shorts to give me outfit ideas!

Really liked how this came together, especially with the magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag. I wanted to wear my new bag but wasn't entirely sure how it would work with the different shades of blue and the print on the shorts. While it doesn't match with anything I'm glad I gave this a go as I really liked the pop of colour it added!

We had a quiet day, taking advantage of the slightly cooler morning to get in some time at the park with the boys before running a few errands and opshoping when the day got warmer. We actually managed to find what I was looking for in the opshop which so rarely happens! Was definitely a good thrifting day.

Thrifted Outfits: Printed Tees and Maxi Skirts With New Rebecca Minkoff Bags

I think these outfits sum up my style perfectly! Thrifted maxi skirts and tees, with some splurge-worthy bags. Because why spend a lot on clothes when you could put that money towards the bag budget instead? 😂

I've been thrifting a lot more in recent years - it was helped by having an opshop (thrift store) right next to the playgroup we went to weekly. Although it's now closed down it helped me see that I could maybe swing 10-15 minutes to browse if there were some toys around for the boys to play with! I've been looking further afield at different opshops to find a nice replacement store, which of course has lead to buying things as I browsed! It's meant I could pull these outfits together really cheaply (if you don't count the cost of the bags I accessorised with!)

What I wore:

thrifted printed tee ruffle maxi skirt summer sahm style outfit with rebecca minkoff edie cross body | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue instagram | kids birthday party mum outfit printed tee maxi skirt rebecca minkoff edie cross body bag magenta
Tee: thrifted Kmart abstract blob print tee
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt (new purchase)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

This skirt is recently purchased - both it and the tee were only $1 each. While I do already have a black drawstring waist maxi skirt, it doesn't have the ruffled hem and does have splits up each side which limits when I can wear it. I can see this working for cooler weather with some ankle boots, and being petite I wasn't going to turn down a perfect length maxi skirt for just $1. I suspect it may have been altered before to suit its previous equally short owner!

The perfect outfit for a busy day. First wearing of my new Rebecca Minkoff Edie cross body bag too. I scored this in the January sales, and while it took a few weeks to arrive it was worth the wait! Wore this to a birthday party at McDonalds in the morning and then watching church online at my friends house in the evening.

With the bold abstract print on the tee and the bright cross body bag, I didn't feel this outfit needed a necklace.

Last worn: abstract print tee, Havaianas. First time I've worn the ruffle maxi skirt and Edie bag too as they are recent purchases.

Other ways to wear abstract print tee and denim shorts.

What I Bought In January And February - Opshop Haul:

What I wore:

mixed print thrifted maxi skirt and Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue instagram summer printed maxi skirt and tee thrifted opshopped outfit with mab camera bag
Necklace: Kmart gold and navy beaded necklace
Tee: thrifted Mix Apparel black marle tee
Skirt: thrifted tribal print maxi skirt
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond

Why I wore it:

Another completely thrifted outfit if you exclude the accessories! This tee was even cheaper than the one above, working out to just 67 cents as I got it in a 'fill a bag for $2' sale with a few other pieces. This is its sixth wear too, getting great cost per wear.

I've tried print mixing with it before, this time around I thought I'd pair it with this printed maxi skirt. Which I got in the same $2 bag of clothes. It was originally a dress, and I decided to have it altered into a skirt. It's such a fun summer piece.

I liked the way that the space dye tee worked with the mixed prints on the skirt, and I think the Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag tied the two pieces together nicely. Since the bag was a Christmas gift, that leaves the sandals to be the most expensive part of my outfit and I purchased them for $20!

Last worn: black printed tee, gold and navy beaded necklacemixed print maxi skirt, gold sandals, Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag.

Other ways to wearblack printed tee in the office, mixed print maxi skirt and denim jacket, gold sandals and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag and frill sleeve tees.

How You Can Wear It:

There is a false assumption that you need to wear a new outfit every day or you can't rewear things - in fashion in general, not just in blog land. I definitely challenge that and I enjoy showing you different ways to wear things in every post, and my 30 wears series to illustrate that you don't need new things all the time. And you certainly don't need to spend a lot when you do buy things!

You can easily find a bargain piece or two to update your wardrobe and make things feel fresh without maxing out your credit cards. Opshops, thrift stores, eBay, sale sections, all are good ways to make your fashion budget go a little further and give you the thrill of something new, so you can have a little more money to splurge on the things you care more about. That means more money for handbags for me obviously! 😂

In blogging, there is pressure to wear new things, things you can link and generate commissions on sales of. And I truly do appreciate those of you who buy things through the affiliate links I share to give me a little extra money for my hobby. But I'd much rather be a useful blog, that gives you inspiration for ways to wear pieces you already have and encourages you to rewear pieces to get more value from the things you've bought.
