Peplum Tops, Pencil Skirts & Rebecca Minkoff MAB Tote | Weekday Wear Linkup!

It's the Weekday Wear Linkup, with some office style!

Keeping things simple for my return to work after a bit of a break, I stuck with an outfit combo I've worn before. Peplum tanks and pencil skirts, easy office style and just what you need after a few weeks leave over Christmas (I wore these mid-January).

What I wore:

Shoes: Walnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in moon navy

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this skirt I mentioned how much I wear it with black - the fuzzy polka dots just make black an obvious pairing! I thought the peplum tank and textured pencil skirt would be a fun combo, but still good for a busy day at work.

It was a bit of a weird day, with wind and rain forecast but also quite humid so I added this bird print scarf onto the handles of my Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag in case I needed it later with the rain. It actually started raining just after I took these photos!

With the black and pink, I decided to wear accessories that would match the navy bag for a third colour in my outfit. I loved the tassel earrings and tassel necklace together, both are Christmas gifts. Only downside was that the statement earrings kept catching on my braid. I have to remember to wear simpler pieces when I have my hair braided on the side like this!


Last worn: navy and gold tassel necklace, pink polka dot pencil skirt, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff MAB tote bag. First time I've worn the peplum tank and scarf.

Why I wore it:

Once again, repeating the outfit formula above as I liked it so much. This time around, with a printed tank and a plan pencil skirt. And a simpler hairstyle, as I picked grey tassel earrings to match the pencil skirt and the blazer I brought along for meetings. Like the outfit above, it was both a humid and rainy day so I didn't add the blazer for the pics, but it really dressed up the outfit in the office. A grey jersey pencil skirt and a grey jersey blazer together looks very formal, even with a fun printed peplum tank in the middle.

Picked a bright pink scarf to accessorise. This crinkle one didn't get any wear during the day with my blazer worn in the office aircon instead, but I loved how it popped on the bag!

How You Can Wear It:

A peplum tank is a flattering option, and it is such a cute touch to have a little extra frill on a basic tank. Paired with a pencil skirt (with a blazer on top if needed to meet stricter office dress codes) it makes a simple feminine office outfit. You can go with something plain, or pick a printed tank for a little more interest and colour.

Striped Tee Dresses and Purple Balenciaga Work Bag

Continuing the theme of blog posts this week and wearing some more new things, two new-to-me striped tee dresses.

My sister had a wardrobe clear out just before Christmas, and hers was a much more successful one than mine. I shared a video of some of the things I scored. I was thrilled to get two striped tee dresses, something I've wanted for a while. I've worn the black one before, but it was the first wearing for the white one. With the dresses from my sister's wardrobe and the bag from my bestie's wardrobe, it's easy to see you don't need to head to the stores when you want something different! Look through things friends or family are discarding from their wardrobes 😂

Why I wore it:

I wore this for a rare kid-free couple of hours to shop! I popped out to browse the Kmart new year clearance sale. They had all their Christmas stock marked down, and I walked away with quite a lot for next Christmas! I got a trolley full of goodies for $15, and just one of the things in the trolley was a $15 tree. As well as Christmas things, they had a lot of clothes and some toys marked down so I enjoyed getting to wander through the store and even try things on at my own pace without kids in tow! I've already shared the shorts I got, and I picked up a peplum top and some new PJs for myself too.

Kept things simple with my outfit. Just the tee dress, silver pendant necklace and earrings (both Christmas gifts) and then Balenciaga accessories. This tee dress was one of the new with tags pieces my sister never got around to wearing. Worked out nicely for me! I did mull over the pink studded sandals with the purple studded bag, as the bag has silver hardware and the sandals are rose gold. I think they are far enough apart that it worked though.

While I think this dress might be a little too short for days with the kids, it worked out perfectly for a morning shopping by myself, and was nice on a hot and humid day!


Last worn: purple Balenciaga work bag, Balenciaga studded sandals. First time I've worn the necklace as it was a Christmas gift, and first time I've worn this dress from my sister's wardrobe.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Unlike the striped tee dress above, I wore this on a day out with the kids. This dress is just slightly longer and has a longer hem in the back that made me feel more comfortable wearing it out for a morning of running errands.

Usually when I'm with the kids I'll take a small cross body bag as I'll be carrying the bulky baby bag too. On this day, we weren't planning to be out long and I didn't feel like carrying the baby bag all morning, so I decided to put the wipes, water bottles and a changing kit in my Balenciaga work bag. I was feeling quite happy with my decision until we got to music time at the library - with an entire room full of kids dancing and stomping and running around my poor bag was trampled on a few times (mostly by my boys though!). I think I'll stick with the small cross body bag that fits inside the baby bag if needed for a while longer!

Handbag stomping aside, I liked the way this outfit looked! I love the pop of colour with the purple against the black and white stripes. This dress was so nice on an overcast but humid day too. I kept the accessories simple, no necklace and just my trusty Rebecca Minkoff studded sandals, as it really was too hot to contemplate wearing anything more.

Striped Tee Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A tee dress is a lovely easy outfit option for a hot summer day. With lots of choice for designs, you could pick one in your favourite print (mine is stripes!). If you have young kids, best to consider the length of the dresses to avoid any unfortunate moments in the playground! Definitely something you want to try on at home or compare measurements with a dress you already have and know is kid-friendly.

Frill Sleeve Tees, Printed Shorts and Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag

Wearing some of the wonderful pieces I got for Christmas, but as always sticking with the simple outfit formulas I love. Some frill sleeve statement tees, printed shorts and my new Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag that I got for Christmas.

What I wore:

Shorts: Kmart culotte short in navy lemon print

Why I wore it:

As well as the new tee and bag, these shorts were a new purchase. I tried to resist the January sales, but the Kmart clearance was too tempting and I scored these $15 shorts for $5. Since my other pair of blue printed shorts reached 30 wears, I knew these would become a firm favourite in my wardrobe. The print I thought was wattle but the tag says lemon. I decided to pair this bright pink tee with them due to the pastel pink in the print. With all of the colour and the printed colourful headband as well I added the neutral gold sandals and almond Rebecca Minkoff camera bag to balance it all out.

I wasn't too sure if the headband was too much with this outfit, given the bright colours, statement sleeves and tie on the shorts, but I think it worked nicely together in the end, and helped disguise a bad hair day a little bit!

The shorts were perfect for a first wear, and a practical choice for running around with the boys at a playground in the morning.


Last worn: navy headscarf, rose gold sandals. First time I've worn the pink tee, blue necklace and camera bag as they are Christmas gifts, and first time I've worn the shorts as they are a recent purchase.

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the first outfit so much, I repeated the same outfit formula again later for a busy day. Park with the boys in the morning, seeing hubby off to the airport on a work trip, then dinner and watching Church Online at my friend's house in the evening. It was a hot and humid day, so shorts and a tee seemed like a good option. We didn't stay at the park for too long before heading back to the aircon!

First time I wore this navy statement sleeve tee I paired it with the pastel pink tassel necklace. I really liked the combination, so wanted to try it again. The tassel also worked nicely with the tassel tie on the printed shorts.

Navy and black is a combination I've worn together a few times before - I used to be unsure of it until I bought a dress years ago (before the blog) that featured both colours, and figured if it was good enough for the dress is was good enough for me to try with separates! The neutrals work nicely together. Added in another neutral accessory to the combination with the almond Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag.

Shorts and tee is a summer staple! It's easy to add a little more interest to your outfit with a fun pair of printed shorts, but why not go for an extra detail on your tee too? These frill sleeve tees let you take part in the statement sleeve trend without getting in the way and getting caught in doors or dirty as you make food and snacks for the kids! Really mum friendly.
