Relaxed Fit Shorts and Floral Kimono: Spring Playgroup Style

I've been on a bit of a shorts buying binge this spring! I've been slowly swapping out some of my current shorts and selling or donating them to make room for some more of these cute relaxed fit soft shorts. I'm not really sure if they have a proper name, 'relaxed fit soft shorts' seems a bit long. I do know that they are insanely comfortable and perfect for Brisbane's heat though. They look great with this floral print kimono too.

Ordinarily I wouldn't wear voluminous pieces with a kimono, I don't always like the results, but I loved the relaxed vibe of both these outfits. Perfect for playgroup.

Why I wore it:

With the warmer weather, I have been so excited to wear these blue printed shorts again. I know from my personal stylist session that they aren't the best style for me, because post-babies my waist isn't the narrowest part of my body and these shorts highlight that. But I really don't care, I love them anyway. So much so that I went and bought a couple more in a similar style!

I'm surprised that these have only been worn 16 times so far, nowhere near 30 wears but I'm aiming to reach that goal with them this spring/summer!

I usually pair these shorts with stripes if I'm wearing another print, but decided to go with the neutral metallic tank and add the floral print kimono for something different. Partly also because I'm trying to hit 30 wears with this kimono this season. I really liked this combination, nice and comfortable for a warm day at playgroup with the boys. I've worn the tank and shorts together before too.

Why I wore it:

Back when we had our failed shopping trip that ended up with x-rays, I'd seen these shorts in Jeanswest and considered them but figured they were a little too expensive and I didn't love them enough to go try them on. I hadn't been able to get them out of my head since then though, and even tried going back in store to buy them. They didn't have my size and again something came up with the boys and I couldn't get to the store that did have my size.

So when I saw these shorts in the 40% off sale I had to get them! Was so pleased to discover them as it's been a while since I last saw them. While the shorts are already a relaxed fit, I thought of pairing them with this black tee right away. I really liked the combination, and the floral kimono added a little extra colour to the outfit. I was really inspired by loving the first outfit so much.

It's got a bit much going on, with the voluminous pieces together, and the mix of prints and embroidery, but I really liked this outfit. So insanely comfortable, and such an easy outfit after our big day out the day before.

Soft Shorts and Printed Kimonos with Black Tanks

When people asked what to get me for Christmas, I suggested kimonos and necklaces, and was lucky to receive the beautiful ones I'm wearing here. Kimonos are the perfect layer with soft shorts for Brisbane's summer heat, especially when paired with the new necklaces that I got too!

Why I wore it:

When I unwrapped this Kindness Collective kimono, I thought of these olive shorts right away. A black tank, bag and Havaianas made sense with the black in the print too. I really loved this outfit! It gave me the chance to wear another new piece, this lovely red necklace I also got for Christmas.

My mother in law got me this kimono and was so excited to tell me about the good it does too. Every kindness kimono purchased donates a reusable sanitary kit to help keep girls at school and women at work, and the kimonos are made from remnant fabrics.

It was another day for hubby and I to get things done as we ran around fitting in some errands after a swim, while the boys spent some time with their grandparents. I managed to film some YouTube videos too, a very productive day. I have such a hard time trying to find a quiet time to film them when the boys are in the house, and it's so rare to be at home without the boys! I really want to try more videos this year, so recording a few was helpful.

Why I wore it:

I bought this Rebecca Minkoff guitar strap and the Regan satchel bag together, so it was only a matter of time before I added the strap to the bag. I really liked the combination.

This combination of printed shorts and kimono together I'm not too sure about though! I wanted to wear both with the new black tank I picked up in the Jeanswest sale with one of my Christmas gift cards. I'd debated them in front of the mirror as I was trying to pick which one to wear and thought that as they are such similar shades of blue, they might look okay in the same outfit. While hubby was unimpressed, I decided to give the combo a try anyway. I don't think I'll be rushing to repeat this print mix, but I'm pleased I tried something new.

Another day of trying to get things done, with another YouTube video filmed despite facing memory card and camera battery issues - it wasn't as productive a day as I'd hoped, ha! Included the video I filmed below. You'll recognise the outfit, although I took the kimono off at home.

Long Sleeve Tops and Shorts with Rebecca Minkoff Neon Pink Mini MAC

While waiting for autumn weather to arrive in Brisbane, I tried to make my outfits a little more autumn-like by wearing longer sleeved tops with my shorts. It's a good option for a day that's not too warm, not too cold.

I didn't love both of these outfits the same though, even though they followed the same outfit formula and I carried the same neon pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC with them both.

Why I wore it:

After spending a few days in bed unwell, on Friday I felt like getting out of the house. I was lucky to have my mum help me with the boys. It was school holidays so we took them along to one of the free activities at the shopping centre, a dinosaur exhibit. They both loved it! By the end of the day though, I was exhausted and felt I'd pushed myself a little too far - had a cruisy weekend after that!

I was so sure I'd worn this embroidered top and the blue soft shorts together before. With them being blue and white, and loving a bit of matchy matchy, I was so sure I'd have already worn them together. I was surprised to look through the blog and find out I hadn't! I really liked the combination. In the cooler morning and air conditioning at the shopping centre, the longer length sleeves were perfect. Of course I couldn't resist adding a little pop of colour, so brought out my neon pink mini MAC bag again. It's been a little while between wears, so it was definitely overdue a wear.

Why I wore it:

Following the same outfit formula as the one above, picking a longer sleeved top and pairing it with my soft shorts. I didn't like this outfit as much as the one above. It was a relaxed day with a couple of errands so loose light layers seemed like a good idea in the morning. It was also unfortunately a very hot and humid day, and I was wishing I hadn't gone with such a warm top! It was the last touch of summer before the rain and cooler autumn weather arrived, 32 degrees (90 fahrenheit).

I did like the colours of this outfit though - I love grey and pink together, and have started to try wearing olive and pink together too. The neon mini MAC was such a fun splash of colour. And it was a perfectly comfortable outfit for sitting around playing with the boys after we ran all our errands.

Long sleeved tops and shorts work well together in spring or autumn where it's not warm enough to bare arms and legs at the same time. If it does heat up through the day, you can always push or roll the sleeves on your top up too.

Foil Print Tees With Shorts and Studded Sandals

While I do like changing things up a little with my outfits and wearing dresses or skirts and adding kimonos and layers, sometimes you just want a casual and comfortable shorts and tee outfit. Both of these tees have some foil detailing on them, which makes them a little more sparkly and makes me feel a bit more pulled together.

Why I wore it:

For a hot and humid day I wanted some light pieces to wear, and these fun soft shorts are perfect. I frequently wear these printed shorts with stripes, I love the print mixing combination. With the white in the print of the shorts, the white tee seemed like a good idea, following the 'wear the same colour in both prints' rule for print mixing.

After grabbing some groceries, we headed out to our local ABA group catch up. We had a change of venue which meant I felt brave enough to wear white around the boys, as they spent all their time running around on the playground. It was nice as it gave me a chance to have a chat without constant interruptions. The main topic of conversation was the humid weather of course!

With the silver foil stripes on the tee, the metallic silver mini MAC seemed like the obvious choice. I've worn the tee and bag together before, it's a nice matchy-matchy combination.

Why I wore it:

I felt like it had been a while since I last wore this tee, so it was overdue a wear again. Just over 3 months, even though I still feel this is a relatively new purchase in my wardrobe! It's such a soft tee, so perfect for a quiet morning with the boys. We had a very quick browse in the opshop where I picked up some winter clothes for them, then we went to playgroup.

This bag is a recent addition to my wardrobe, you can see the reveal video above. It's a Balenciaga pompon in murrier and I think the lilac purple looks great with blue, I've worn it that way before too. Such a nice colour.

On a warm day, you can't beat a shorts and tee combo for an easy outfit. It's perfect for running around with toddlers. Shorts and a tee doesn't have to be boring though, picking printed pieces like a striped or polka dot tee or printed shorts can add some extra interest. Foil print takes that one step further and brings a little shimmer to your outfit, which keeping the practicality and easy of a simple shorts and tee combination.

Grey Knits and Soft Shorts In Autumn With Balenciaga Tempete Day Bag

When you want to wear all your autumn/winter knits but the weather isn't cooperating, try wearing them with shorts! With our extremely warm start to autumn I wore this outfit combination a few times to wear some cosier pieces without overheating.

Why I wore it:

The perfect opportunity to wear one of my recently unboxed winter knits. While I keep my summer pieces in my wardrobe year round, I have no need for winter knits and scarves and leather jackets most of the year here in Brisbane, so I box them away. Unboxing them when the weather changes is always so fun, even if it does lead to the inevitable 'I have no space in my wardrobe' and 'why do I have so many clothes?!' freak outs when I try find a spot in my wardrobe for it all.

It was a cooler morning and we were spending the day playing outside in the shade at playgroup, so I thought this knit would work well with shorts and ankle boots. It was the perfect weather and outfit and I loved wearing this. With the embellishment on the knit I wasn't sure at first if it would work with the printed shorts, but with a lot of white in the print I thought they tied together nicely when I put them on. I really enjoyed wearing this outfit.

Why I wore it:

Since I enjoyed the outfit above so much, I thought I'd try the formula again. I should have checked the weather before I did so, it was a warmer than usual day and I did regret the knit at a few points. Fun day though! We had our local ABA mother's group in the morning, a little shopping in the afternoon and then I got changed and we headed down the coast for dinner with my family.

It's the first time I've worn this necklace, an item sold as a fundraiser for ABA. With the silver beads and print I thought it would match nicely with my silver foil knit and tempete Balenciaga day bag.
Last time I wore a normal necklace to the ABA I regretted the decision - spending my stay at home mum days at playgroup or mother's group means baby-friendly necklaces are the best choice! While my boys are past the teething stage, my friend's baby adored chewing on this necklace as I held him for a moment while my friend was busy with her other son. I think I'll be wearing baby friendly necklaces for a while, even though my boys are toddlers now!

I did think that the necklace, knit and bag all worked well together but I'm not too sure about the olive shorts. I usually find green a tricky colour to wear, I think a neutral bag might have been better with this outfit.

Thin knit jumpers like these are great pieces that you can wear by themselves in spring and autumn or layered up with things over or under them in winter. If the weather isn't the perfect coldness, you can still wear them with shorts as I have above. Definitely pieces you can get a lot of wear from outside of winter.

Monochrome Printed Outfits and Rebecca Minkoff Bags

It's funny seeing these outfit pics taken last month as autumn weather has really arrived here in Brisbane!

Blue is my favourite colour, although I do try to wear others and not just wear it every day! A monochrome blue outfit is always one that makes me happy. You can keep it easy and simple with a dress. A plain basic is a good partner for a printed piece if you're wearing separates, and I'm showing you how to wear both.

Why I wore it:

When you're not sure what to wear, a printed dress is an easy instant outfit. It's been such a long time since I wore this dress! Last time I wore it I was actually pregnant with baby boy. It's not breastfeeding friendly so it's been an unsuitable choice before. It was so good to get it out again. No teething necklace needed as the tassels on the dress keep baby amused!

It was perfect for a morning spent with my sister who was happy to keep baby amused while I had my drivers licence renewed, and then we went out for lunch. I even wore makeup to make the photo look better, but of course it's a drivers license photo so I still look terrible in it as you aren't allowed to smile!

Why I wore it:

Had a quiet day when I wore this - a few errands (like picking up a cake!) and then a special family birthday dinner in the evening. I've mentioned a few times when I've worn these shorts that during my wardrobe detox session the personal stylist suggested wearing them with similar colours to create a monochrome outfit. While I've worn it with contrasting colours too, I do like pairing these shorts with other blue pieces. Added the fun pink Balenciaga studded sandals and the colourful teething necklace for a little brightness with all of the blue.

This tee is a 'wardrobe basic' piece that I bought in October. However, this is only it's third wear since then! 3 wears in 7 months really isn't great, especially since I've not been shopping for 5 of those months and have added nothing to my wardrobe. A marle tee is a good basic, but this was my second choice after they didn't have my size in a white tee, and maybe I should have held off for a white one. Will be keeping it in my wardrobe though, just not wearing it as much as I hoped. At $3 though it's not a bad cost per wear already!

First wearing of these cute printed shorts from my November purchases. Wanted to wear them with stripes to have a little bit of print mixing. Not sure if it was too much with the checked Louis Vuitton as well though? At least it was all shades of blue to pull it together.

I had to go into the city to get a bracelet repaired, and wanted to stop by Louis Vuitton just for a bit of a browse...of course I ended up ordering something! Won't pick it up for a while yet, it's my Christmas present from hubby.

I wore my neverfull bag as I think sometimes when I go into high end stores like Louis Vuitton that they will know I have to save up to afford anything and that I might get ignored. Thought the neverfull was a good way to make it seem like I 'belonged' in the store. I didn't have to worry, because as per usual the staff in Louis Vuitton were so polite and helpful. I can't be the only one that worries about what I'm wearing when stepping into luxury stores though, haha. Do you do that too?


Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, striped tank, studded sandals, Louis Vuitton neverfull. First time I've worn the shorts.

Shorts: Jeanswest printed denim shorts
Shoes: Havaianas tropical print thongs


More stripes! It was a slightly cooler start to the day, so I wore this striped top with the longer sleeves. A much more casual outfit than above as I was rushing around a little in the morning trying to get some errands and Christmas shopping done. No handbag, as I had everything I needed in the baby bag.

I made such a good head start on gifts at the Giftorium in October, but suddenly it's December and I'm running out of nap times to get everything organised! I doubt that baby T would be impressed if I tried ignoring him at playtime to do more shopping ;)
