Professional Second Trimester Office Wear: Marc By Marc Jacobs Fran Bag, Pencil Skirts from Soon Maternity and Asos

Wednesday was a big day at work! I tried on a few outfit ideas to look as professional as possible. It was the kind of day where if I'd had a suit, I'd have worn it. Ended up settling on a top and pencil skirt combination, I think it looked okay? Much too warm for a blazer, although it was a consideration for a while.

A few weeks back I had a massive "I have nothing to wear to dress the bump" freak out, and had the urge to go shopping. Knowing that most of what I would buy would be temporary, I hunted on ebay and put in some low bids. This pencil skirt is one of the items I won.
I've heard good things about Soon Maternity, and at $75 new, I got it for a complete bargain second hand. However, it's the wrong size and pretty worn, nothing like the description. I figure for the next couple of months I can put up with it, as it was the only cheap plain black maternity pencil skirt I could find. The seller massively overcharged on postage, so it wouldn't be worth my while returning it. At the very least, it's a good reminder to myself to not get carried away with pregnancy hormones, and be careful what I buy online!

Last worn: French connection print top, Marc by Marc Jacobs camel flats, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag. First time I've worn the pencil skirt.

Here's what I wore to work today:

Today's outfit was one of my Wednesday rejects! Thought that a plain pencil skirt would have been perceived to be more professional than a printed one. This was absolutely perfect for a normal day in the office. Really liked this outfit, even better than yesterday's. More cheerful with the colour I think.

Might not wear this top again in my pregnancy though, I felt like it was bursting at the seams a little over the baby bump. I even got a "wow you look massive!" comment, which just made me giggle to be honest. I'm aware my belly is huge and I'm pleased baby is growing well. People can say what they like, as long as my OBGYN is happy and baby is growing normally, I'll keep expanding! Especially when I keep craving chocolate ;)

Last worn: Ray Ban wayfarers, red shirt, Asos tartan maternity pencil skirt, Wittner black flats, MbMJ Fran bag (see above).

Balenciaga Sapphire Purple City, Maternity Pencil Skirts, Marc By Marc Jacobs Mouse Flats

Here's what I wore to work on Monday:
Purple top and bag asos neutral tartan pencil skirt

2008 Bal sapphire purple city bag RH classic hardware
NecklaceHouse of Harlow Dynamic necklace in gold
Top: Jeanswest 'Felicity' maternity shirt in amethyst (new purchase)
SkirtAsos panelled pencil skirt in tartan check on sale! (materntity version here)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
Bracelets: the usual plus beaded neon and gold and black and gold bracelet set
BagBalenciaga purple RH city in 2008 sapphire

This top is another one of the new things I purchased in the Jeanswest 40% off sale the other week. They had just released a nursing range and then had 40% off everything...I was powerless to resist! When the parcel arrived on Friday, I loved this top right away. It looked great with the skinny jeans I was wearing when I tried it on.

It doesn't really work with the pencil skirt though, does it? Much too long. I have that problem with a few of my maternity tops, I am petite so the extra length they add to the maternity clothes to accommodate a growing bump can swamp me a little. And I don't want to run round belting everything. Might need to pair this top with pants next time, as it's really comfortable and colourful so I want to keep it.

Last worn: Asos tartan pencil skirtmetallic gold mouse flats, Balenciaga sapphire city bag.

Here's what I wore to work today:
wearing non maternity empire waist tie tops in the third trimester

Necklacecustom Cooper charm by Silhoupette layered with Dogeared silver wishbone necklace
Top: Cotton On grey empire tie print top (with white Supre singlet underneath)
SkirtSoon Maternity Flora fold pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black mouse flats patent leather
Bracelets: the usual plus purple Salvatore Ferragamo 'Vara' leather bow braceletHermes pink clic clac
BagBalenciaga purple RH city in 2008 sapphire

Very similar outfit to yesterday's - feeling uninspired! It was pouring rain this morning during the 5 minutes I have for photos, so indoor photos again. It cleared up and got much warmer almost right away.

Not sure how long I've had this top for exactly, but I probably bought it around the same time I got my other Cotton On top. So pleased that my clothes hoarding means I've kept a lot of my clothes from my flowy top phase a few years ago, they are just the thing for the growing baby bump!

Although this top I maybe can't wear again during the pregnancy. It is just a normal top and I don't quite think it can handle the third trimester bump, it felt a little short today as the bump made it ride up. Monday's top was too long, today's too short....still learning how best to dress baby and I! Feel free to leave me tips and tricks if you've been through this, your advice and comments are always appreciated :)

Last worn: white Supre singlet, Soon maternity pencil skirt, patent mouse flats, Balenciaga sapphire city (see above). First time I've worn the top on the blog.

Balenciaga Coquelicot Velo, Fashion Item Friday Linkup

I'm co-Hosting the Fashion Item Friday link-up today, so scroll down and link up your latest fashion-related post :)

Thursday was supposed to be a nice quiet day at work without any meetings, so I dressed comfortably. Of course the day didn't turn out anything like I planned and I ended up with a few meetings and some very urgent tasks to work on, haha. Always the way!

This tee is another new purchase. I've bought more non-maternity clothes than maternity clothes this pregnancy I think! I know these oversize tees will fit me post-pregnancy as I am ordering my usual size, and they are not as overwhelmingly long on my petite frame as most maternity tops are.

The Iconic keeps having sales and extra coupon codes that just tempt me too much ;) They currently have a 50% off sale at the moment, and I've again got a cart full of wishlist items....

Last worn: Soon Maternity pencil skirt, Wittner black flats, Balenciaga coquelicot Velo. First time I've worn the tee as it's a new purchase.

Here's what I wore for casual Friday today:

Lots of red and some maternity denim for an easy casual Friday :) Should really try change it up a little with this top - I paired it with my Velo bag last time I wore it too!

Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials - Review of Maternity Pieces in My Wardrobe

While I'm in the hospital with baby, I've set up a few scheduled posts.

As soon as I can I will be back to posting my usual daily outfits. Until then I hope you enjoy the little break and slight change of format.

First up, talking about my pregnancy wardrobe and the maternity pieces I wore through my pregnancy.

I had a total of 14 maternity pieces to supplement my existing wardrobe. I've included links below so you can see when I wore them, and how often I wore them. My goal was to buy as little maternity pieces as possible.

Tops:

Dresses:

Skirts:

Shorts:

Pants:

You can hear my thoughts and opinions by watching the video, but in summary:
  • I was lucky to have a lot of pieces in my existing wardrobe that worked well in pregnancy. Lots of flowy, loose, oversized and stretchy pieces meant I didn't need much maternity wear. I'll do a follow up post about the non-maternity items I found most helpful.
  • Maternity tops I found tricky to wear as the extra length swamped my petite frame.
  • Dresses were the easiest, most comfortable maternity wear option for me. Great go-to pieces!
  • The Asos maternity pencil skirts I bought were fantastic for work and I'd recommend them to anyone who has to dress for pregnancy in the office.
  • Jeanswest maternity denim is the only brand of maternity jeans I tried - perfect first time so I didn't try to look elsewhere.

I hope that you found this post useful, and that you can pass it along to anyone who might benefit from it :) Different from my usual posts, but I thought that laying out what I wore and how I wore it during my pregnancy might come in helpful for someone.
