This was a beautifully warm weekend day! I got to spend some time with the kids to do a school holiday dessert decorating class that was really fun - and a bit messy! The white background on these jeans maybe didn't make them the best choice for the day! I just needed something easy to throw on though, and these jeans are always fun, especially when paired with blue. I really liked this navy tank with them, and the third colour added through the little aquamarine mini MAC bag. We did have a few errands to run after the class, but we weren't out long, so a little bag was all I needed.
Slightly less fun day here as I had to work from home! Also wore this back in the spring school holidays in September, luckily hubby had some activities to entertain the kids as I worked from home. It was a cooler morning so I went with jeans and this super-soft pink tee. I felt that wasn't quite enough colour, so added the blush pink necklace and another shade of pink with the mini 5-zip bag too! Comfortable Converse were a must have, and I added the printed cape as well for a little extra layer as I had a few errands to run solo before work.
My first 30 ways to wear post for 2021, with this pretty Jeanswest "Chantelle" navy blue printed empire waist jersey maxi dress. I actually thought I hit 30 wears on this a while back but I'd miscounted the number of posts featuring it - as I included it in my pregnancy style wrap posts too, but they were just outfit reposts and not a new wear. Stretchy jersey is so comfortable, pregnant or not! And it stretches well to fit the bump!
Each month I look through the my blog archives to see what things in my wardrobe I've worn more than 30 times. It's so helpful taking a photo of the outfits I wear each day so I can look back on the ways I've worn things and put these posts together.
30 Ways To Wear: Navy Printed Jersey Maxi Dress
This dress was a Jeanswest outlet sale find back when I was pregnant with my oldest boy, in 2014! With it being in my wardrobe almost 7 years and it accommodating a baby bump nicely, it's no surprise I've exceeded 30 wears with this dress. So far, it's up to 31 wears. I really thought I'd have worn it more by now, having owned it so long!
It's just the right kind of fabric, comfortable and stretchy without being too clingy, and thick enough to stretch without being sheer but not too thick and warm for summer. My favourite way to wear it, as you'll see in these photos, is to double over the elastic empire waist and create a little blouson effect on the top. It has the benefit of making the dress a little shorter too, perfect for my petite self!
Cost Per Wear
Sadly, I can't calculate cost per wear on this dress, as I can't remember how much I bought it for and I no longer have the receipt as it was 7 years ago. I think it was around the $40 mark, which would be about $1.29 a wear as I've worn it 31 times, but I really can't be sure. It was definitely less than $60 as it was more than half price at the outlets, I remember getting an extra % off on top of the sale price, and Jeanswest maxi dresses weren't over the $100 mark 7 years ago. Even without knowing the exact cost per wear figure I know I've gotten my money's worth from this third trimester pregnancy buy, it's a wardrobe staple even without the baby bump!
Monochrome Outfit With Blue Printed Maxi Dress
Blue is my favourite colour so it's no surprise to see I like wearing even more blue with this dress! From a little thing like a blue bracelet or earrings, or something bigger like a blue bag, any shade of blue: pastels, turquoise, or cobalt works well with this navy dress.
Navy Printed Maxi Dress With Yellow
There are of course lots of other colours you can wear with a navy dress! Yellow and blue are a cheerful combination, and as with the blue outfits above you can do it in a small way by adding a pop of yellow with a necklace, or bigger and bolder with a yellow scarf and bag.
Navy Printed Maxi Dress with Purple
Another go-to colour combo of mine, blue and purple. As with the other colours above, you can keep it simple with a small purple bag, or wear something bigger like the purple cardigan. This waterfall one looks great belted over the dress for winter! I've done a 30 wears post with this purple cardigan too.
Navy Printed Jersey Maxi Dress With Pink
The navy print on this maxi dress is such a good backdrop for any shade of pink to pop! My favourite is magenta pink, like that Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag in the middle there, or the magenta necklace in the bottom right. But other shades of pink accessories work well with a navy dress too, with the tiny pastel belt or the bold neon pink scarf!
Ways to Layer a Jersey Maxi Dress
I don't just wear my maxi dresses in summer, even a sleeveless tank style like this one. You can make a maxi dress work in winter by layering a knit over the top, or just cover up a little more on a cooler autumn or spring day by knotting a grey tee over it! Knotting the tee helps stop it looking too overwhelming if you're petite like me, and gives a bit of shape to the outfit. And of course if it's summer you can still layer like I have in the middle with the crochet trim kimono.
Easy Throw On And Go Outfits With a Navy Maxi Dress
The best thing about a jersey printed maxi dress is that it's an instant outfit! Never over or underdressed, you just need to grab and go! With these outfits I've been dressed up for our annual family Santa photo, a night out, or dressed down for a casual BBQ with friends and family, or running errands. It just works for any occasion without any fuss.
Jersey Printed Maxi Dress In Pregnancy
That photo I have in the middle is the only one I have to show off the beautiful crochet back of this dress, which is a shame! But it turns out it's really tricky to get a good photo of the back of your outfit when you're using a tripod and camera remote 😂 With the stretchy jersey material of this maxi dress it works in all three trimesters, and even as you can see in the bottom right there, for the final days of pregnancy at 39 weeks! I like that I've been able to wear this dress through both my pregnancies with my boys, and it also works for breastfeeding after as the top is so stretchy! It was definitely a good sale buy all those years ago!
These green jeans have been on repeat lately! A lucky opshop find two years ago, they were just $5. I've been so close to 30 wears with them, and thanks to my frequent rewearing this spring I have a 30 wears post coming up next week with them!
While I've shared outfits with these sneakers before on the blog, this was the first time I wore them out. I wanted to try a sporty kind of look but I don't really have a sporty wardrobe! Decided to go with the printed tank, the green jeans for a bit of colour and my little Rebecca Minkoff silver crossbody bag as it goes with everything!
It was threatening to rain and a pretty overcast morning, and a little windy, but we took a chance after school drop off and went to my fave trail to test out my new shoes properly. Luckily it didn't rain, and we had the whole place to ourselves! Usually even though we don't see other people due to the nature of the trail we see a car or two in the carpark, but not a single other person was there. It was wonderfully relaxing! My shoes held up pretty well too, I'm glad I replaced my old ones with these, although I hope my knee injury continues to heal so I can get back to regular shoes more often and don't need to wear these as much!
Surprisingly, despite wearing stripes with these green skinny jeans a lot, I hadn't worn this striped tank with them before! I was sure I had, but looking back on the blog I can see I haven't! It's a really easy pairing, colourful jeans and a printed tank, just the same as the outfit above, but the different print changes it up a little. Was very comfortable for the school run and working from home on another breezy day.
A printed tank - in any print - is an easy choice with a colourful pair of jeans. It works well for spring and is easy to layer up a little with a cardigan or denim jacket in the cooler weather.
Another Wednesday post! I'm still not back to my regular 3 times a week posting I was pre-pandemic as I just don't get out of loungewear that many times a week yet! But I wanted to share two outfit posts this week, and on Friday I'll have my special annual gift guide post.
Two outfits with similar colour schemes and outfit formulas, but both look very different despite featuring navy kimonos, grey tees, green and the same little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag.
Simple jeans and tee outfit for a busy day with the school run, working from home, and an appointment for my son in the afternoon. The grey tee and the green jeans are a combination I've worn a few times in the past, but I couldn't resist changing it up a little bit this time with the navy tie dye kimono on top. I thought it went nicely with the green jeans and it was a fun bit of match-matchy with the navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag, and the navy Havaianas.
I really liked this outfit - nice and comfortable and practical for working from home and rushing around between school pickup and the afternoon appointment. I was glad I'd picked jeans to wear as the wind really picked up in the afternoon and it was actually a bit chilly on our way home from the appointment!
I really liked the colours in this outfit! Just like the first outfit, it was a grey tee with green and a navy kimono, and that little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag. This time around though it was olive shorts instead of jeans, as the weather had warmed up a lot. The navy floral print kimono adds even more colour too, as does the green beaded necklace.
I thought that this grey tunic would go nicely with the pull on olive shorts - while they are both very relaxed fits I like the casualness of the outfit with the two loose pieces together, and I felt the long line of the kimono pulled it together a bit more to stop it looking too messy. Again I really liked this outfit! After the school drop off in the morning we went for a walk along our fave trail. Walking around the water was not the smartest idea after the storms that weekend though, especially when I forgot to put on mozzie repellent! I was bitten so much, ended up walking around a lot quicker than normal trying to stop my legs getting bitten 😂
Our grocery order was due to arrive the next day but I'd run out of some things for lunchboxes and it wouldn't arrive early enough in the morning, so had to go for a quick grocery shop after. Was nice to cool off my multiple bug bites in the air conditioning! And I took the opportunity to have a little browse of the shopping centre for some more Christmas gifts as well. I've purchased most of my Christmas gifts (I want to be really organised this year with all the online orders slowing down the postal service a little) but there's always a few extra things to buy!
Blue and green is a colour combo that should definitely be seen! It's easy to pair any shade of green with navy, as you can see here with the forest green and the olive working well against the navy kimonos.
Making the most of the warmer winter weather just before spring arrived, I got some of my printed tanks out when all I needed to add was a light cardigan. Wore some colourful jeans with them too.
Wanted to wear light and colourful layers as it was such a warm day, so this 3/4 sleeve cardigan and a printed tank were perfect. Surprisingly it's the first time I've worn this mustard tank with the green skinny jeans! I really like wearing yellow with these green jeans so I was surprised to look back on the blog and see I hadn't paired the two together before.
With the printed tank and bright green jeans I kept the accessories simple with the matching silver mini MAC bag and silver circle necklace. Just wish it had been a little warmer at the end of the day! This outfit was perfect for the school run in the morning and afternoon but I had to layer up with a thicker coat for my son's sports in the evening when it got really cold.
This was a really fun day! Spent the day with my sister taking her around our fave trail, enjoying the sunshine and the trees sheltering us from the worst of the wind. It was so nice to get out and treat ourselves to a takeaway lunch afterwards.
Added this light scarf to try combat the wind a little. This neon pink Alexander McQueen skull scarf is frequently worn with stripes, I really like the combination and despite it being a different shade of pink with the magenta skinny jeans I think they worked well together. Surprisingly I haven't worn this scarf at all this winter! I have been living in loungewear since we go out so little though, hubby and I share the school runs so I don't go out every day.
Keeping up with all the colour I added my purple cardigan and blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag. I did say I'd be wearing this cardigan and these jeans together again last time I wore them - the purple is such a nice shade with the magenta!
As you can see I swapped to my Rebecca Minkoff Julian bag to carry all the water bottles and some snacks on our little hike, but I wore the mini MAC bag for the school run and a quick Kmart shop in the afternoon.
A printed tank is a great combination with a pair of colourful jeans. You can add a light cardigan or scarf if it's a little cooler. Either stick with neutrals to balance out a colourful tank and jeans combo like I have in the first outfit with the grey cardigan, or layer up even more colour like I have in the second outfit with the pink scarf and purple cardigan.
At it again with my matchy-matchy! Picking some colours out of these Fashion Scarf Girl Scarves I bought last month to build an outfit around. While I just posted these scarves last week, this time around I'm adding them to more colourful outfits with my skinny jeans. I wanted to wear them twice close together to meet my "wear any new purchase twice in the month I buy it" goal. Luckily I managed to wear both of these twice just before the end of June! Still going strong with No Buy July this month so far.
A colourful outfit for a bit of a sad day. Added all the colour to cheer myself up a bit, with my Sass and Bide magenta skinny jeans and purple cardigan. I really like pink and purple together so it won't be the first time I wear these pieces together! Plus the colours matched the pink and purple in the forest print of my scarf, even if the pink is a different shade.
The blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag matched the colours in the scarf too and I thought the grey tee was a good neutral piece to add to all those colours!
On this day we got to see our dog off as she went home with her family. Originally we were only going to look after her a little while, but as Coronavirus took hold things got more complicated. Plans changed a few times, so with her being with us so long it was a little hard to say goodbye, but nice to see her going home.
Again, matching the colours in a printed scarf to the colour of my jeans! The green skinny jeans work well with the green print in this scarf, and the blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag matched the blue bits nicely too! Kept the rest of my outfit a little more neutral with the black cardigan and grey long sleeve tee. I was thankful for this thicker black cardigan in the evening, as we had to again sit outside the hall for my son's sports class as there were too many people training in the venue for the COVID restrictions at the time. The cardigan and scarf kept me extra cosy on a very cold winter night!
A a colourful printed scarf can be so easy to wear if you match it to another colourful piece in our outfit, like I have here with the bright skinny jeans, and the cardigan in the first outfit. You can always add a neutral base like a grey tee too to balance out the colours.

More casual outfits for this week's Weekday Wear Link up. Back in the summer of 2017/2018 I bought a few foil print tees. I tend not to wear them for everyday as they feel a bit more special than a regular tree, but I realised they hadn't been worn in a while. Going out with family felt like the perfect time to wear them. They pair so nicely with denim!
Wore this blue and white outfit to go see Frozen 2 with the kids. They were so excited to see it, but we wanted to wait until we could all go together. Thankfully everyone's days off lined up eventually. It was so strange sitting there in the movie theatre watching the second Frozen movie with my mum, sister and my two kids, as when I saw the first one with my mum and sister I was pregnant with my eldest boy! He loved the songs and danced along in my belly so it's no surprise he still loves the movie now, ha!
I've worn this navy printed kimono with stripes before, it's a great way to print mix especially with the silver foil stripes on this tee. I kept the silver theme with the necklace, bracelet and the silver hardware on the pink mini MAC. Pink is another thing that's frequently worn with this kimono!
The studded gladiator sandals and the distressed denim shorts were simple pieces to wear with the colourful blue and pink outfit.
Although you can't see it so well in the main photo this cream tee is covered in lots of little foil stars, the perfect sparkly outfit for a night out at Movie World's White Christmas event! Especially when paired with the silver glitter Kmart shoes, and the silver cuff. My sister thought the same - she and I matched with our star print tees and black shorts! It's no mystery why I dress the boys the same when my sister and I are still doing it as adults! 😂
As it was a Christmas event at the theme park I added some red accessories for a festive touch of colour. I wore this little red Rebecca Minkoff mini Avery tote baglast time we went too, it's a great size for my wallet and camera and it zips up securely to keep everything safe. The necklace was a nice bit of matchy matchy.
Once again we had a great time at the event, it was awesome!
A foil print tee is a fun twist on a classic tee. Just like a plain tee, it works well with denim! You can continue the sparkle with other accessories like I have with the shoes and cuff in the second outfit, or just let the tee be all the sparkle and add some bright colourful accessories like red blue or pink.
