Pink Balenciaga City Bag and Wrap Dresses For The Office

With my return to work from maternity leave, I feel like a have a lot more outfit options in my wardrobe. It's been fun getting to unpack my office clothing I set aside while I was on maternity leave, and wear some of my fancier dresses, but I've also enjoyed using more of my handbags.

While I've shared my secret for how to wear a handbag and a baby bag before, I still prefer cross body bags when running around with the toddlers.  Being back in the office means getting to wear those bags I didn't wear frequently during maternity leave, like this sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag.

What I wore:

NecklaceZanele 40 handmade rope necklace
TankJeanswest brown marle singlet
DressJeanswest floral wrap dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in black!)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

This dress is one of the oldies in my wardrobe. The benefit to having so many pieces from Jeanswest in my wardrobe is that I can tell how old things are from the different tags they've used through the years! This dress is practically vintage as it's around 10 years old. I might have to add a singlet underneath for modesty now but I still love wearing this just as much as I did when I first got it.

I found the wrap style worked perfectly for pregnancy too! Pink accessories with a little black dress is an outfit combination I wear a lot of, and I love this wrap dress and pink Balenciaga city bag together.

Last worn: camel trench coat, brown marle tank, floral wrap dress, gold mouse flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearcamel trench coat and burgundy pants, brown marle tank and ombre maxi skirt, floral wrap dress layered up for winter, gold mouse flats and skinny jeans, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and navy kimono.

Perfect for pregnancycamel trench in the first trimester, floral dress and pink bag in second trimester, Balenciaga city bag at 37 weeks pregnant.

Dress: Target Dannii Minogue Petites printed wrap dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats

Why I wore it:

Pink and blue is another favourite colour combination of mine. While the print of this dress is made up or pinks, reds, blue and turquoise it 'reads' blue so I wore it with the blue necklace and jacket to compliment it.

Just like the gold mouse flats in the first outfit, these silver ballet flats are a nice neutral. A good choice with such a colourful outfit.

Unlike the wrap dress above, this is a faux wrap dress. I usually stay away from faux wrap pieces. Being petite with a short torso it's hard enough to find proper wrap pieces that fit me and impossible with faux ones. This dress is from the Dannii Minogue petites range at Target though and fits perfectly!

Last worn: navy Macintosh, faux wrap dress, silver ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to wearnavy Macintosh and fit and flare dress, faux wrap dress and winter layers, silver ballet flats and monochrome pencil skirt outfit, Balenciaga sorbet city bag with monochrome pencil skirt outfit.

How You Can Wear It:

A wrap dress is a great outfit choice for work. They suit everyone and are an easy, instant outfit. If you're worried the wrap doesn't give enough coverage, you could layer a tank underneath like I have in the first outfit. They work perfectly for breastfeeding too!

With a classic corporate dress code friendly wrap dress, you can have a little fun with your accessories and try a bold colour like this pink bag.

Outfits for Expressing Breastmilk at Work: Pumping Friendly Dresses

It can be difficult finding affordable, stylish and professional breastfeeding friendly clothes! If you're returning to work while your baby is small you may need to find things you can wear that allow you to express breast milk through the day.

While I've expressed breastmilk for my babies at home and when out and about (like at a wedding!), I haven't had to express in the office or negotiate any pumping breaks during my day. I do know from my experiences outside the office that these outfits would work perfectly for expressing. They are ideal for attending and facilitating meetings too.

One more thing to note before I get to the outfits is that you have legal rights in Australia that allow you to continue to work and breastfeed - you can read more here to find out how to get the support you need to return to work while breastfeeding. "It is generally against the law to refuse to make arrangements to assist you to breastfeed at work, if these are reasonable". Your rights in more detail.

What I wore:

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
Scarf: star print pashmina
DressAtmos&Here Arlette jersey wrap dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

This dress is one of the handful of pieces I've bought that failed the 'wear twice in a month after buying it' rule. I bought it while on maternity leave, not wanting to pass on the sale bargain and knowing I'd get a lot of wear out of it when I returned to the office. I do like wrap dresses for easy breastfeeding, but this one seemed a little out of place in summer when I wore it and so it was put aside until my return to work. This is only it's second wear now, 7 months after I bought it!

Glad I bought it though, it is perfect for the office. I layered a colourful tank underneath but you can't really see it with all the layers on top! Really enjoyed wearing this, and I enjoyed getting out this Marc Jacobs Fran bag again too. It only really gets worn to the office so it's been a while since I've worn this too, over a year and a half!

Last worn: camel trench, star print scarfzig zag print wrap dress, Walnut Melbourne Ava ballet flats, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran.

Other ways to wearcamel trench and pencil skirts, star print scarf and skinny jeans, zig zag print wrap dress worn outside the office, black ballet flats and printed jeans, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran and skinny jeans.

Perfect for pregnancy: trench coat and hidden first trimester bump, star print scarf and second trimester bump, black ballet flats and maternity pencil skirt, Marc Jacobs Fran bag in second trimester.

Tank: Kmart navy ribbed tank
DressAtmos&Here Betsy jersey wrap dress in watercolour print
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

Unlike the wrap dress above, this one has been worn quite a few times since I bought it while pregnant. Even though I bought it a size larger than normal to accommodate a growing baby bump in my final trimester, being a wrap dress it still fits nicely without the bump.

Decided to go with the blue coat, scarf and tank underneath too. I like all the blue with the turquoise print of the dress. I didn't feel quite as confident in this dress as I did in the same one with a different print above. Only because I kept stopping to realise through the day that the last time I'd been in the office with this dress I was pregnant, and it made me miss my boys. Hopefully it will be easier next time I wear this dress, I'll spend less time caught in my own thoughts.

Returning to work is an emotional time, compounded by baby boy not adjusting to the change well and having disrupted sleep. Walking into a meeting room, or the lift, or the kitchen, or sitting at my desk and realising last time I did those things in this dress I was pregnant made it a bit of a tough day to get through as my boys were always at the forefront of my mind.

How You Can Wear It:

A wrap dress is a classic wardrobe item that a lot of people have. They are timeless, suit so many different people and are usually pretty affordable. The wrap detail makes access for breastfeeding easy, and it's this feature that makes them a good dress choice for anyone who has to express too. You can easily layer a breastfeeding singlet underneath, or quickly slip them off to put on a pumping bra instead if you have one.

A wrap dress can make you look and feel good, meet corporate office dress codes and work for you if you're returning to work and breastfeeding or expressing.

Atmos&Here Wrap Dresses and Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote

In the third trimester of my last pregnancy I snapped up a wrap dress by Atmos & Here in the boxing day sales. I loved the wrap dress style with a baby bump and it works just as well post-baby too. When I saw a similar style in a different print in a boxing day sale again, I had to buy it! A wrap dress is always a classic.
Wore the two dresses in similar ways with a Louis Vuitton neverfull bag to attend some specialist appointments for baby boy.

What I wore:

Atmos&Here Arlette jersey wrap dress, louis vuitton MM neverful damier azure | AwayFromBlue
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
DressAtmos&Here Arlette jersey wrap dress (new purchase, on sale!)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

This wrap dress was just $26 (now reduced even further to just $21!), so I snapped it up in the December boxing day sales. Even though the thicker fabric and long sleeves aren't ideal for a Queensland summer... I regretted choosing to wear this dress on such a hot day! Didn't hit my goal of wearing this dress twice in a month after buying I like I aim to do with all my purchases. The summer heatwaves have made wearing it an unattractive choice and they seem set to stay a little longer.

I am trying to wear more of my dresses as I've realised I've been favouring denim outfits during my maternity leave. To try and make this dress a little more casual I wore my Havaianas with it but I think any other shoe would have looked better, I felt they looked strange with the dress. Just a little too casual with it.

Other than the less than perfect shoe choice and feeling too warm in the dress, I actually enjoyed wearing this. It helped that we got good news at Baby Boy's appointment. Made me so happy.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Havaianas, Louis Vuitton neverfull. First time I've worn the wrap dress as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wear: Louis Vuitton neverfull and a maxi skirt.

Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklace
DressAtmos&Here Betsy jersey wrap dress in watercolour print
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

Another specialist appointment, another wrap dress! While this watercolour print and colours in the dress are different from the black and white zig zag print on the wrap dress above, I think the Louis Vuitton Neverfull still goes nicely with it. I've mentioned before I see this bag as quite simple to wear, almost seeing the checkerboard print as a neutral.

I liked the sandals better with this dress instead of Havaianas, and this was again a nice easy outfit to wear for a morning in the city after our appointment.

Hopefully I'll get more wear out of these wrap dresses over my maternity leave. While they are perfect for the office I think a wrap dress is a classic style you can wear casually too. They are breastfeeding friendly, so I just need to get over my hang-up that makes me think they are too 'dressy' to be worn for SAHM life and wear something other than denim for a change.

Printed Dresses and Boots: Wearing Pregnancy Purchases Post-Baby

Over my pregnancies I never stopped buying clothes. I do love shopping! I tried to buy things I knew would work post-baby most of the time. It's strange wearing those pieces for the first time without a baby bump, and always a relief to find that they still work.

What I wore:

Atmos&Here Betsy jersey wrap dress Second Birthday party breastfeeding friendly outfit | Away From The Blue

Aquamarine Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC clutch bag silver bracelet stack | AwayFromTheBlue
DressAtmos&Here Betsy jersey wrap dress in watercolour print (on sale!)
ShoesRMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale!)
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

This dress was perfect for the 'it's a wrap' style challenge prompt, although I didn't wear it on the same day. I wore this for toddler T's second birthday! It's hard to believe he's 2 already, he's growing so fast. For his first birthday party, we kept things simple and did everything ourselves. Despite thinking I wouldn't be able to do the same this time with a baby as well, we managed to pull it off. It did mean a busy week as I did some baking in advance, but it was worth it as both boys enjoyed the party.

I knew I wanted to wear this dress for toddler T's party. It's strange seeing it without a baby bump though, after buying it in the third trimester. As I hoped when I bought it, it will still get lots of wear post-baby. A wrap dress is a classic!

Last worn: printed wrap dress, ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff aquamarine mini MAC.

What I wore:

Mulberry Foggy Grey Alexa satchel bag | Away From The BLue
DressJeanswest Nikki printed shirt dress
ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
BagMulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey

Why I wore it:

This dress is another one I bought when I was pregnant. However, this is it's first wear despite having the 'wear everything twice in a month after buying it' rule. In the 2 years I've had that rule, this is the only piece that's sat there new with tags in my wardrobe after a month. Since I bought it in November I really should have worn it before now... I'd bought it in the second trimester, tried it on and while it was snug, I could still fit into it, so set it aside to wear in a few days. By the tine I got around to wearing it though the bump didn't fit into it! A baby belly grows so quickly in the second trimester, I really should have sized up.

Every pregnancy is different, and every experience post-baby is different too. While with toddler T I was back into normal clothes and button up shirts quite quickly, with baby boy things are a little bigger in the chest area! It means that while in theory this button up shirt dress is perfect for breastfeeding, I had to wait until things calmed down a little before I was able to squeeze myself into it! Glad I've been able to wear it now at least - it's easy to layer up for winter despite being from the Jeanswest spring range.

Last worn: yellow scarf, tall boots, Mulberry Alexa bag. First time I've worn the dress as it's the first time I've fit into it!

Other ways to wearyellow scarf and a red dress, tall boots and skinny jeans, Mulberry Alexa bag and a maxi dress.

Second Trimester Pregnancy Outfit Inspiration: 38 Outfit Ideas

I've been blogging for over 4 years and through two pregnancies, so I thought a wrap up of my favourite maternity outfits would be a great resource for anyone looking for pregnancy outfit inspiration!

As well as sharing my second trimester travel essentials I previously did a series about my wardrobe changes in each trimester you might find helpful too. I spoke about what worked and what didn't in my second trimester.

This will be a very photo-heavy post as I share a few of my favourite second trimester outfits. 38 different pregnancy outfit ideas! There are links below all the photos if you want more details.

Office Wear:

I bought two ASOS maternity pencil skirts and they got a lot of wear in the office.

My single maternity wrap dress was a real wardrobe workhorse, being worn almost weekly, although I continued to wear my regular non-maternity dresses in the second trimester as well. Fit and flare or empire waist dresses were perfect for this.

Maxi Dresses:

I only needed one maternity maxi dress for both pregnancies, the majority of my existing maxi dresses were stretchy enough to work through all three trimesters. There were a few I outgrew in the second trimester though.

Maternity Denim - Jeans and Shorts:

I added a second pair of maternity denim shorts to my wardrobe for my most recent pregnancy as I was heavily pregnant over summer and it was too hot for jeans. Previously I was doing a full work week and with the cooler temperatures and dressing for casual Friday, my maternity jeans were worn a lot more.

Office Wear at 37 Weeks Pregnant: Printed Wrap Dresses and Sorbet Pink Balenciaga City Bag

My last corporate style post during my pregnancy! Here's what I wore for the last two days at work before maternity leave. While baby has arrived, I was so behind with blogging I've got a few more pregnancy outfits scheduled to share still. Means I can relax and enjoy newborn cuddles as the scheduled posts go live.

For those who asked on my previous office wear post, in Australia we are entitled to a year's maternity leave, with the ability to extend that to 2 years. The government will pay minimum wage for 18 weeks and most employers also offer a paid parental leave period in addition to this, so some of the first year can be paid. Hubby even gets paid parental leave for 2 weeks to help with the crazy newborn days which will come in very helpful. I'm very aware that I'm lucky to live in Australia and have the benefits we do.

What I wore:

AwayFromBlue | 37 weeks pregnant easy office wear outfit printed wrap dress pink accessories

AwayFromTheBlue | Hermes pale pink clic clac bracelet tiffany silver stack Balenciaga sorbet city bag
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace layered with Tiffany diamonds by the yard necklace
Dress: thrifted Target printed wrap dress (with Supre pink singlet underneath for modesty)
Shoes:  Marc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes pink clic clac
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

Fourth and final wear for this dress! Not bad for a $1 opshop (thrift store) bargain! I bought it just to give me another office option during pregnancy. Only being worn 4 times I probably didn't need it as much as I thought I did, but when you hit that panicked stage in the second trimester worrying that you have nothing to wear you can go a little crazy shopping...at least it was only a dollar. It will be donated back to the store now, it served me well!

The only thing I didn't like about this outfit were the shoes - at 37 weeks with the crazy humidity it was really painful squeezing my feet into these all day!

Last worn: pink singletprinted wrap dress, cap toe flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wear: pink singlet and a floral dressprinted wrap dress in the second trimester, cap toe flats and skinny jeans, pink Balenciaga city bag and a chambray dress.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Soon Maternity Madeline Printed Wrap Dress pink singlet sorbet Balenciaga city bag 37 weeks office outfit

Necklace: Eye Candy LA gold and turquoise cuff necklace
Dress: Soon Maternity 'Madeline' grey print wrap dress (with Supre bright pink singlet underneath)
ShoesAsos 'five star' leather sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs black leather Swarovski beaded wrap bracelet
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

I saved my favourite office wear for my last day, this beautiful maternity wrap dress worked so well through two pregnancies for me. One of those pieces I'm so glad I invested in. Even though I got it second hand, it was a bit pricey and the most expensive maternity piece I bought. Worth it though as it's always made me look and feel good.

I did break the office guidelines just a little and wore open toed sandals on my last day - but there was no way I was squashing my feet into shoes for another 8 hours! These were much more comfortable, even if I did have to have them as loose as they could go. The swelling has been much worse with this pregnancy, probably because of the high humidity.

Last worn: pink singlet, Soon Maternity wrap dress, Asos leather sandals, Balenciaga sorbet city (above).

Other ways to wearpink singlet and shorts, Soon Maternity wrap dress and Chloe Paddington bag, Asos leather sandals and a maxi dress, Balenciaga sorbet city and denim shorts.

Mulberry Oak Bayswater, Wrap Dresses for the Office: 3rd Trimester Corporate Style

As mentioned in my previous post, I'd been talking about and thinking about my handbags, and how things will change with them when baby's born. When toddler T was a baby, it took me a while before I started carrying my bags again and not just throwing my things into the baby bag.

The Mulberry bayswater is one of the bags that I'm sure will be neglected for a while. It's perfect for the office, not so much a day with a toddler. In my final weeks at work before maternity leave it was good to get it out again.

What I wore:

AwayFromBlue | Third Trimester Office Wear Thrifted Pritned wrap dress Mulberry Bays

AwayFromTheBlue | Mulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather JORD fieldcrest wood watch
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace
Dress: thrifted Target printed wrap dress (with white Jeanswest singlet underneath)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs studded mouse flats in grey (on sale in black)
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (previously owned bargain here)

Why I wore it:

Can't believe this is only the third wear of this dress! Considering I got it at the op-shop (thrift shop) for $1 it's still a pretty good cost-per-wear though. I had the usual second trimester panic that nothing fit and I had nothing to wear so I went op-shopping and found this for only a dollar. A size larger than my normal, I knew it would work in pregnancy. It's a great piece for the office, although I don't see myself wearing it much after pregnancy so I'll try squeeze in a few more wears before baby arrives.

Why I wore it:

Another day at the office, another printed wrap dress! Unlike the one above, I feel I'm wearing this dress a lot this pregnancy! It's almost a weekly thing....

It's nice though having a go-to outfit for work though. It makes picking out something to wear the next day much easier, no matter how tired I am at the end of the day.
