Printed Shirts, Colourful Pants and Ankle Boots With Rebecca Minkoff MAB

Do you ever hit that point in a season where you're just over it, uninspired and dreaming of other weather? I hit that point in winter recently. I was cold and uninspired so I defaulted to my go-to outfit of jeans! The beauty of working in a business casual office environment is the ability to wear jeans through the week. Well, burgundy pants and a pair of grey jeans. Add some ankle boots, cosy scarves, and printed shirts and it's easy office style for winter.

What I wore:

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat

Shirt: Target mint stripe shirt
Pants:  Jeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
ShoesAsos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

I usually plan my outfits the evening before I wear them. I'm not always organised enough to plan much further in advance! The night before I was cold, tired and wanted something easy. These burgundy pants are warm, and I've worn a very similar outfit before. The tan boots, camel trench and burgundy pants just work perfectly together, especially with the burgundy scarf and the neutral Rebecca Minkoff MAB. I've worn all these pieces together previously here, but this time for something different I picked another top. Again, mint and burgundy is a colour combination I've tried before, although it's the first time I've worn this shirt with the pants.

I really liked this outfit - being a combination of colours and pieces I've tried before, I knew I would, and it was just what I needed for an otherwise uninspired day. You know an outfit's good when your boss stops you in passing to comment on how much they love it!

I did manage to somehow spill multiple meals on myself so my outfit got progressively worse through the day, but otherwise it was a great outfit and a good day. Realising I'd spilled my drink over both my top and my pants after presenting a meeting wasn't a highlight (I missed my sleeve in the clean up and just noticed the pants!) but thankfully no-one said anything, if they did notice.

Why I wore it:

Another outfit following the same outfit formula - printed shirt, cosy coat and colourful pants. I like that these jeans are a muted purple-y grey colour, they don't look as obvious as blue denim but are still just as comfortable. While jeans are definitely not frowned on during the week (and you see a lot of blue denim around mid-week in the office) I only pick these jeans to wear on quiet days where I won't be presenting much.

We had a busy day, I was working on another initiative outside of my usual work with a smaller group, so the casual jeans were perfect. Comfortable too.

With the mixed print on this shirt I wasn't completely sure what scarf to go with, went with this magenta one in the morning at the last moment as I liked the colour it added with the navy macintosh. It was actually a warmer start to the morning - a sign winter is coming to an end! - and I debated leaving the scarf behind. I was able to leave my macintosh at my desk when we all went out for lunch, such a warm afternoon. The little exposed ankles I had from rolling up my jeans didn't make me as cold as when I did the same thing in the first outfit above!

Colourful Pants Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

In a business casual office, you have a lot more options when it comes to workwear. You don't have to stick to classic black pants, and can experiment more with cuts like wide legs, culottes or skinnies. You might even be able to wear a pair of jeans like I have in the second outfit. Colourful pants are a nice way to stay warm in winter while keeping cosy at the same time, especially when paired with ankle boots and scarves.

Printed Jeans and Basic Tees | Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC and Micro Regan

Jeans are a frequently worn option in winter for me. I do try mix things up a little in my effort to stay away from blue jeans. I have a few colourful pairs, and some really fun printed pairs. I'm wearing two printed jeans below, in a monochromatic outfit and a second more colourful one. Although I'm wearing different prints and colours, I kept to a simple outfit formula in both outfits with basic tees and cosy cardigans.

What I wore:

SAHM style: monochrome printed jeans outfit with space dye tee pop of colour micro regan bag | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold on wrist | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue instagram monochrome printed jeans outfit mustard yellow rebecca minkoff micro regan bag

Necklace: Kmart Gold and Navy beaded necklace
Tee: thrifted Mix Apparel black marle tee
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

No scarf as this was a rather warm winter day! In fact, when we came out of ABA mother's group and we went to grab some groceries, I took the cardigan off as it was a really warm winter afternoon. It was nice to enjoy the sunshine briefly.

I thrifted this tee a while back to replace a plain black v-neck one that I'd destroyed in the wash, and realised this hadn't been worn in a while. With the space dye print being similar to the lines on the chevron print of these jeans, I thought they would look quite nice together. I was worried the print mix was a little bold, definitely bolder than I expected when I put it on, so to keep things simple I added a plain black cardigan over the top. I'd planned to add my mustard cardigan, to match my mustard Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan bag, but I think the black worked perfectly. It let my little bag be the touch of colour with the outfit.

I felt the silver shoes tied in nicely with the monochrome outfit, even if the necklace was gold and the bag was mustard. Really liked how well the printed jeans handled messy food covered toddler hands at the ABA mothers group too, ha! Prints are so good for disguising finger marks!

Christmas In July Boxswap!

Super excited to share my first every box swap video! I did a Christmas in July surprise box swap / secret santa with some of the other Australian Mum Vloggers I've gotten to know this year.

TeeAtmos & Here Avery marle tee in navy
Jeans: Portmans pink leopard print skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white

Why I wore it:

Another day with the boys, another chance to use the same outfit formula with another pair of printed jeans. I was surprised to realise I hadn't worn this blue marle tee with the pink leopard print jeans before, I really like blue and pink together! As the outfit felt a bit bold, I thought a neutral grey cardigan would be the best layer to add. Kept me cosy too, as this is wool.

With the neutral white Converse shoes as well it was looking like a good outfit, but I decided to go even bolder with the hot pink mini MAC bag. While an even brighter shade of pink than on the leopard print jeans, it really popped and just made the outfit for me. I tried doubling the strap over a little to make it a little shorter. I do that frequently with my Rebecca Minkoff Love bag. This mini MAC is not as structured though, and the soft leather pulled a big, as you can see in the close up shot. I don't think I'll try that again!

Again, a slightly warmer day so I went without a scarf. We spent most of our time indoors too, running a couple errands and taking the boys to rhyme time at the library.

Last worn: grey wool maxi cardigan, blue marle tee, pink leopard print jeans, Converse, neon pink mini MAC.

Printed Jeans Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Printed jeans are easy to pair with basic tees, and neutral cardigans if the weather is cooler. You don't have to stick to neturals though! While the first monochrome outfit works, the second outfit follows the same formula but with more colourful pieces. Don't be afraid to add more colour to a printed piece.  You can stick with a colour combination you already love to make it easy.

Embroidered Tops In the Office With Balenciaga Bags

After a rough week of feeling unwell and working from home, I felt well enough to return to the office. I decided to wear some of my embroidered pieces to boost my mood. I love embroidery, but it's been a while since I wore these tops so it was definitely overdue.

What I wore:

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
BlouseJeanswest Elise longline embroidered shirt in coconut blue
PantsJeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
Shoes: Asos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Unfortunately, despite having regained most of my voice the day before, constantly greeting people in the office and explaining that I had almost lost my voice resulted in me pretty much losing my voice  again before lunch time! While meetings were difficult, they weren't impossible. I felt able to follow along mentally even if I couldn't contribute much to the discussions. There was a lot of pointing and gesturing at screens. Thank goodness for being able to use messaging apps to communicate with my colleagues in other offices rather than picking up the phone!

Lack of voice aside, I wanted to bundle up warmly as it was predicted to be one of the coldest winter days, with single digit temperatures. I'm from Brisbane, 8 degrees Celsius is freezing to us! I picked my cosiest scarf, this Louis Vuitton monogram shawl. The night before as I'd planned my outfits I'd tied it so it was more like a snood / infinity scarf. As I shared on Instagram though, it wasn't as easy to replicate on a cold and dark morning. I didn't realise it looked quite so messy until I saw the pics. Oh well, it definitely kept me warm.

Probably could have picked a warmer jacket over this blazer, and maybe not rolled my pants up to expose my ankles on such a cold day. I did love this outfit otherwise though, it was perfect for the day at work, just not so much for a nearly freezing commute!

BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

Thought I'd wear this embroidered peasant tank to the office, as I was surprised to realise I'd never done that yet. I love this and wore it a lot while breastfeeding. It's a long flowy tunic length, perfect for lifting up slightly to feed baby but keeping your stomach covered still. It worked well in the office too! I can't believe this is the first time I've worn this top this year, it's a favourite and has been neglected too long.

While I didn't wear the trench coat in the office and swapped to a cardigan, I did enjoy all the brown tones in this outfit when I wore the trench. The scarf looks a bit crumpled from being in storage and I briefly considered ironing it, but just wore it anyway. Creases happen!

Just like the day above, my voice was better in the morning and almost non existent by the end of the day. While the day started off great with a cup of free chocolates and then lunch being provided at the office, my voice and I were exhausted by mid afternoon. I had a late meeting right before I left and my colleague was sliding me throat lozenges across the desk when she heard me trying to speak on the call! 😂

Blazers and Skinny Jeans With Rebecca Minkoff Love Bags

Because I like making things easy, following the same outfit formula of jeans, a jersey blazer and a printed tank. Along with my Rebecca Minkoff love bags. I bought another version in the recent Rebecca Minkoff sale, and this is the first time I've shared an outfit with it on the blog. You can see the unboxing here.

What I wore:

JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (C/O)
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

I got some rare kid-free time to go shopping! That almost never happens, I think the last time was just before Christmas! I had signed up for a secret santa 'Christmas in July' gift exchange with some Aussie mum vloggers I've met through YouTube, and decided to take a couple of hours to finish up shopping for the person I drew. I had a lot of fun shopping, and picked up a little necklace for me too that you might have already seen here.

As I was kid free, I decided to take out my little Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag. I thought that the peachy-coral would look nice with the pale peach leaves printed on the tank, but they are so pale they never really show up in photos. I still liked the combination though. As it was much too cold for a sleeveless tank, I added the blazer on top. I really liked this outfit and had a productive couple of hours of shopping too.

Last worn: cream blazer, leaf print tank, Nobody Denim jeans, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats. First time I've worn the Rebecca Minkoff small Love bag as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearcream blazer in the office, leaf print tank worn two ways, Nobody Denim jeans and monochrome outfit, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats and blue dress.

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit combo above so much, I repeated it again to go to playgroup. I had the boys with me so went with the bigger grey Love bag. It fits my wallet in it, unlike the smaller peach one. Just nice having everything on me ready to go instead of carrying just a few cards like I did for the shopping trip above.

The neon pink scarf was a nice pop of color with all of the neutrals, and kept me cosy in the cooler morning. I took it off in the afternoon though when it warmed up.

It was good to give this tank another wear too - one of my favourites, each time I wear it I worry it's gone too long between wears. I'm thankful for the Brisbane winter weather that means you can still wear sleeveless tanks with just an extra layer like a blazer on top.

Jersey Blazers Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Blazers can definitely be worn out of the office. Try pairing them with denim, they work just as well with jeans as they do with pencil skirts. A casual fabric, like these jersey ones, or a knit one, can help make them more comfortable and suited for weekend outfits.

Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC With Skinny Jeans, Kimonos and Bright Tanks

I've been wearing my kimonos with jeans a lot lately. Kimonos and denim is a go-to outfit for me over summer, and I wanted to embrace winter with my jeans but still enjoy my kimonos for a little longer. I wore them with bright tanks because even though it's winter here in Brisbane it's still fun to add some colour to your outfit.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Florals aren't just for spring! Wearing them to welcome the first day of winter with this cosy kimono. The navy kimono and mustard tank aren't a new combination, I wore it before here in summer, but it's a combination I love so much I was eager to wear again! This time with jeans instead of shorts, as it is still winter.

Had a busy day, with daycare drop off and pick up, working from home and baby boy's specialist appointment in the afternoon, so I wanted something easy and comfortable. By picking classic black jeans that go with everything and a top and kimono I've worn together before, I knew this outfit would work. Anything that makes getting dressed in the morning quicker and easier is good as a mum!

It was a chilly morning, but the warmer cotton of this kimono and the cocoon style enveloping my arms made this perfect for tackling the chill.

Why I wore it:

Unlike the kimono above, this kimono wasn't as cosy. I did regret it a little in the morning as we had an early start, with some errands before our ABA mother's group, and it took awhile for the weather to warm up. I wore this in the first week of winter though, when I wasn't quite ready to retire my kimonos for the season!

The ankle boots were an effort to make me feel warmer, but really they just annoyed me. I forgot that the zips on the hems of these Jeanswest skinny jeans make them difficult to wear with ankle boots, they just aren't a comfortable combo.

Despite these minor annoyances, I did like this outfit. I love blue and pink together, and this was a fun way to wear the combination, even if this kimono will be set aside to wait for warmer weather!

How You Can Wear It:

Black jeans go with everything and are a great wardrobe staple and alternative to the traditional blue. Wearing a pair of neutral black jeans lets you be a little more colourful with the rest of your outfit too. Colourful Jeans with Converse And Kimonos | Wear & Tear Video of Rebecca Minkoff MAM Bag

There is something about the simplicity of a printed kimono with skinny jeans. Add in some shimmery tanks and you have such an easy stay at home mum outfit! As I shared last week, I've been loving this kind of outfit formula before the cold winter weather arrived. Wore these outfits for two very fun days out and about with the boys, Converse were a necessity. As I had a few things to carry, I went with my trusty mini MAB bag. It carries everything!

What I wore:

purple printed kimono skinny jeans converse SAHM autumn style Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag | awayfromblue

purple skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue instagram purple kimono skinny jeans rebecca minkoff MAM bag

TankJeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver (on sale!)
JeansJeanswest blackberry super skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

I worried the purple skinny jeans and printed kimono together might be a little too matchy-matchy, but I'm so glad I gave this a go as I really loved the combination! I debated wearing my trusty Havaianas over my Converse but figured it could still be quite a cold day. It wasn't, and a few times I regretted jeans and wish I'd gone with shorts!

We headed down the coast with the boys to see the Gold Coast 'Monster Machinery' day. We'd never been before, but with two boys who love all kinds of vehicles, it was the perfect destination. Unfortunately it looked like most of the people on the coast thought so too, it was so busy! The council set up all their vehicles in a park, along with some emergency vehicles, boats, and Lightning McQueen and Mac from the Cars movies. The boys loved it! They ignored the biggest digger (although to be fair I wasn't going to push them to stand in the huge line!) abut they had fun clambering over everything including jumping into the big scoops and pushing the horns on some of the trucks and riding in the fire engine and ambulance.

I loved my outfit, we had a fun day despite the crowds and lines, the only thing I didn't love was my bag choice. I specifically chose this much loved Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag as it fits everything I need to carry as well as my camera, and I'd planned to vlog the day. I took a cute video clip in the car on the way down and noticed the battery was getting low. Not an issue, it's pretty good and usually warns in advance. We finally found a parking spot, walked the long distance to the event, the boys got excited to see the vehicles, and I whipped out my camera to get a good pic, to realise the battery was dead. Luckily I had my phone, but the people waiting behind us to take a photo next were not impressed by my fumbling around!

I then had to carry around a heavy camera, bag and the baby bag. I wouldn't have minded if I could have used the camera, but it was a bit frustrating carrying around something so heavy when I couldn't use it! 😫

Why I wore it:

Another outfit with the same outfit formula! Colourful skinny jeans, basic tank, kimono and Converse. This time I charged the camera the night before, so there were no surprises! I wasn't entirely happy with the kimono though - we had an early start and it was a bit chilly in the morning. Perfect for the rest of the day when it warmed up, but made me realise my kimono wearing days are getting less frequent now winter has arrived.

With toddler T's birthday coming up, we decided to take him and his brother out for a Pony Playdate. A local organisation runs it, they have a beautiful paddock and some farm animals. It's Horses In Mind (not sponsored) at Hemmant. The boys got to spend a morning on the farm learning about (and yes patting and chasing!) the chickens and ducks and guinea pigs. Then it was time to learn how to take care of ponies, and they got to use all the different brushes to get them all nice and clean. This was magical, I had a go too and it was so fun brushing this little pony together. They were such good ponies!

Then after they measured up my tiny boys for tiny saddles, they got to hop on and take the ponies for a ride around the paddock. We got so many good photos and videos, thanks to having the camera charged this time! It was such a fun day out.

The white Converse might seem like a strange choice for a day on a farm! I'd picked them to wear over my boots as they had been getting a bit dirty and I'd been planning to wash them anyway. Getting covered in mud seemed like the best thing to do before finally throwing them in the wash a few hours later.
