Weekday Wear Linkup: Maxi Skirts and Leopard Print Tees

Simple work from home style for today's Weekday Wear Link Up! Wearing the last things I thrifted before the opshops shut down due to coronavirus, these beautiful maxi skirts. With them being plain block colours I decided to wear my leopard print tees with them. Such easy outfits, but I felt really pulled together!

What I wore:

Sass and Bide 'New Day Rising' tee in orange leopard print with navy thrifted maxi skirt | awayfromblue

Necklace: Lovisa blue leaf long necklace
TeeSass and Bide 'New Day Rising' tee in orange leopard print
Skirt: thrifted navy viscose drawstring no label maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

This Sass and Bide neon leopard print tee is a favourite, it's one I don't frequently wear but every time I do I love it! It's a cropped style, which means it's just a normal length on my petite self, and so I didn't tuck it into the skirt at all, just left it loose. It was a hot day although it's autumn in Brisbane and this was a cool and comfortable outfit to wear. I really liked the orange leopard print with the navy maxi skirt too, navy and orange look so good together.

Two bloggers I follow, Sheila and Ivana, recently wore similar outfits too! Definitely a great silhouette.

The only thing that didn't go so well with this outfit was that it got covered in chalk when the boys did some chalk art in the afternoon. Getting dressed for isolation at home with a 4 and 5 year old is tough as my clothes never stay clean long, ha!

Last worn: neon leopard print tee, leaf necklace, thrifted navy maxi skirt, Havaianas.

Other ways to wearneon leopard print tee and jeans, thrifted navy maxi skirt with stripes.

Wardrobe Tour (And Handbag Storage!)

What I wore:

kmart statement necklace and grey leopard print tee outfit with ochre maxi skirt | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | workign from home isolation outfit leopard print tee ochre maxi skirt affordable kmart thrifted style
Necklace: Kmart gold and navy beaded necklace
Tee: Kmart grey leopard print tee
Skirt: thrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

This is such an affordable outfit! The ochre maxi skirt was an opshop bargain at just $4, I picked the leopard print tee up for just $2 at Kmart and the necklace is Kmart too! Not wearing my bags every day has highlighted to me how affordable my wardrobe really is - if you don't include the designer bags! 😂

I liked the leopard print tee and the skirt together, but the outfit felt like it was missing a little something. This necklace was the perfect topper, and just like the outfit above while it was quick to pull together it helped me feel a little more dressed up. I don't always wear proper clothes when I'm working from home, there's a lot of loungewear or pyjama days in isolation, as I mentioned above it's hard to justify a nice outfit when the kids will mess it up before the end of the day. But it's a good change to wear proper clothes when the in laws come to visit or when I know I have a few meetings!

Last worn: grey leopard print tee, blue and gold beaded necklace, ochre maxi skirt, Havaianas (above).

Other ways to weargrey leopard print tee worn two ways, ochre maxi skirt with stripes.

Leopard Print Tees Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A leopard print tee is a fun twist on a basic tee. You can keep your outfit simple and let the tee be the star by picking a block coloured maxi skirt. Denim works equally well too!

How Things Have changed (And What I've been Buying!) : Isolation and Working From Home With Kids

With the schools closed, working from home and parenting and teaching a 4 and 5 year old, things are a lot different now than they were at the start of the year! If you're coming to my blog just for an escape I apologise for how much this post discusses the impacts of the coronavirus! I am trying to keep it outfit focused and make this my regular break into fashion and frivolity, but the truth is the virus has impacted life so much.

I'm sharing two outfits I wore back when I was working from home while the schools were open, so I did the school run. It was a crazy week with a lot of unknowns in Australia about if and how school would continue, so I wanted to be comfortable and wear things to try cheer me up a little as I worked from home and counted down the hours until I could pick my boys up!

Also thought I'd share with you what I've been buying lately. Definitely no fashion spending - aside from the two things I mentioned in this post - but a lot of things to prepare for home isolation with kids. We are in a new world where I have to ensure my kids are learning at home every day as well as working from home myself 3 days a week. I'm blessed to still have my job, but the juggle is hard!

What I wore:

Tee: Life Church Online "Come change the world with me at Church Online" tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

For over 9 years now I've been volunteering at Life Church Online. We have a great group in Brisbane that meets up to stream the service together, and every Sunday night I hop online to help at another one of those services. With the news about churches needing to close, and understandably no more Brisbane catch ups, I wanted to wear my Church Online tee. Faith over fear I guess! And a reminder to myself that no matter what is happening in the world, some things like God's love and my regular Sunday online services, stay the same!

Wore my red maxi skirt with this as it was a bit of a cooler day and this felt more comfortable than jeans for working at home during the day. It, along with the turquoise Balenciaga first bag, were easy ways to add more colour to the black and white tee too.

Last worn: red maxi skirt, Balenciaga first bag, Havaianas. First time I've worn the church online tee on the blog.

Other ways to wearred maxi skirt and scarf, Balenciaga first bag and pencil skirt.

What I've Been Buying For Home Isolation:

I've been buying a lot lately. I'm an emotional shopper and while I'm not splurging on fashion items or stockpiling food, I'm thinking about what could be 6 months at home and how we will amuse and teach the kids in these times. We don't often do screen time, just a weekly family movie night and maybe a Daniel Tiger or Bluey episode once during the week, so I have been looking for things other than apps. As a bonus, most of the items I'm sharing are from local Aussie mum owned businesses, so your purchase helps their family as it entertains your own!

Little Birdie Books

Fun book boxes with activity and game ideas (and all the materials you need!) based on the books in the box. You can buy one off book boxes or subscribe to get a steady stream of books and activities. Started by two Aussie mums and speech pathologists, the books and activities are aimed at helping your kids develop essential skills. You can see what I got in a previous box in my YouTube review. I learnt about this company after friending one of the founders on Instagram.

Keeping Kids Busy

This company had been on my radar for a while - a local Aussie mum takes all the guesswork out of travel (or isolation!) by packing a bag filled with activities to keep any age kid entertained. Low mess but high fun bags. My boys got these as bumper "party bags" from my parents after we had to cancel my son's birthday party when the government social distancing restrictions came into place. The things in the bags are still being played with now, just today even. Found this company through a Facebook group, and you can get 15% off this weekend with code EASTER15!

Kids Craft Box

Another Aussie mum owned business, based in WA, who ships a box of crafting materials and activities across the nation, with different themed boxes available. She has special discounts on her Instagram page often, and has a sibling box option to reduce costs which is what I bought for the boys. I "met" this lovely lady through YouTube a couple of years ago.

Messy Play Kits

My kids have been going to these messy play sessions since they were tiny, and now you can order a box of messy play activities to entertain the kids at home! Janelle is a local Aussie mum who is diversifying her business and offering do it yourself packs instead of hosting the big parties she usually does. I'm so glad to have connected with her through playgroup, we have tried a few of her activities we've seen at the sessions at home too over the years!

Activity Books

From anywhere I can find them in stock! Think sticker books, Easter themes, puzzle books and educational workbooks or wipe-clean books. Kmart had a good range but I know stock is really low at the moment.

Printables

There are a few educational sites around with freebies at the moment due to the virus, where you just print the activity pages you think would be helpful for your kids. Some are even created by teachers, for teachers. You could also ask your child's teacher for some ideas if they haven't already provided some. Queensland Education department has a good list of sites too.

There are no affiliate links in these product suggestions and this post was not sponsored in any way. I'm just trying to be supportive and share a list that's useful for a parent if they find that like me, all my time is filled with working, playing with the kids, or worrying about what activities to do with the kids next. I've been visiting fashion blogs less as a result of trying to come up with a learn at home plan for the kids but I'm trying to continue my two posts a week goal here.

Also, if you're an Australian parent, Triple P Parenting (Positive Parenting Program) is now free and has a helpful module, guide and tips for parenting during COVID-19.

What I wore:

TeeLife Church Online "Go online reach the world" graphic tee
Skirt: Jeanswest Luxe jersey maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

A very similar outfit to the one above, another Church Online tee with a maxi skirt. I like the "go online, reach the world" message on this one as it's so true! And I'm so glad for the internet at a time like this, and technology to keep in touch with all my family despite the travel restrictions.

Stuck with the same bright Balenciaga first bag as I thought the grey tee and black maxi skirt needed a little extra colour, even with the yellow print on the tee. It was clear this would be my kids last day at school and kindy for a while, so that was bittersweet when I picked them up at the end of my work from home day.

Last worn: black drawstring maxi skirt, Havaianas (above), Balenciaga first bag (above).

Other ways to wearblack drawstring maxi skirt worn two ways, Balenciaga first bag and shorts.

How You can Wear It:

A graphic tee is a simple outfit choice with a maxi skirt - and so incredibly comfortable for working from home, while being presentable enough for any video calls!

It will be a very different Easter break but no matter what you are wearing: stay safe, wash your hands and stay home as much as you can as you watch your church Easter service online.

Two ways To Wear a Navy Tank (With Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford Bag)

For today's weekday wear post I'm sharing two ways I've recently worn this navy tank. A breastfeeding piece I got when pregnant with my eldest boy, it's such a staple it's never left my wardrobe even though my breastfeeding days are behind me!

I'm continuing to blog as much as possible while the world is so uncertain, it's part of my routine and after 8 years of blogging and outfit photo taking it would be weird to stop! However, not going out as often and working from home has meant more loungewear, so I have less outfits to share as I only share pics of what I actually wear out the house.

While I've dropped my Wednesday post I'll still endeavour to post Monday and Fridays. In fact you'll see this navy top again in my 30 ways to wear post this Friday, as it's hit 30 wears!

What I wore:

Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo (c/o)
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Wore this to quickly pop out to do the school run and get groceries two weeks ago, which seems so long ago now. While social distancing wasn't as much of a thing then I thought this beautiful green floral duster kimono would help keep my personal space as it can billow out behind me when I walk quickly 😂 It also brought some extra colour to my outfit to cheer me up and boost my mood - grocery shopping has been a bit difficult lately with the shortages around and I needed something to make me smile.

The navy tank and the blue Bermuda denim shorts were another attempt to make me smile - blue is my favourite and go-to colour when I want to feel a little happier!

With the green kimono breaking up the blue a bit I thought this navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag would be a nice compliment to the blue tank and shorts. Normally I'd have more exciting things in mind for the first outings with a new bag, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to wear this bag while I still can! Even if it was just for the school run and grocery shopping.

Last worn: green duster kimono, coin and tassel necklacenavy breastfeeding tank, Bermuda denim shorts, New Balance sneakers. First time I've worn the bag as it is a recent purchase.

Unboxing My Latest Rebecca Minkoff Purchase:

No "what I bought this month" post up as with all the craziness in the world I only have this bag I bought to share, and a fun orange blazer I got preloved. I optimistically bid on it a few weeks before things changed in Australia, when I was still going into work and it eventually arrived on my second week of who knows how many weeks working from home. I'm hopeful it will make an appearance on the blog soon...but it is really an office piece!

Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo (c/o)
Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, I kept this completely monochromatic with navy and blue. I really like the navy Micro Bedford bag with the blue floral skirt, it was such a nice combination. The silver necklace is an older favourite and was a bit of matchy-matchy with the silver hardware on the micro Bedford bag, and silver ballet flats.

Another day of being mostly at home - I did pop out to the grocery store again after school drop off and helping in my son's classroom. It was the second time that week I'd been to the grocery store, hoping that there would be more in stock. Got a few more things from my list thankfully, but there were still a lot of bare shelves even with the newly implemented shopping limits.

Yes, we need shopping limits at all our grocery stores to stop people hoarding and panic buying! A couple in front of me had some of their shopping removed by the cashier because they hadn't stuck to the limits. Thankfully there was no angry outbursts or need for police intervention as I've seen around a lot lately. What a crazy world we live in!

Navy Skirts And Printed Tees With Rebecca Minkoff Regan Bag

I've been wearing a lot of maxi skirts lately! They are a nice option for staying covered up but still cool in the hot and humid weather (even though it's officially autumn now in Brisbane!).

What I wore:

Necklace: blush pink and gold beaded tassel necklace
Tee: thrifted Kmart abstract blob print tee
Skirt: thrifted navy viscose drawstring no label maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs waxed leather cream howlite beaded wrap bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

I've been looking at this thrifted printed tee in my wardrobe for a while realising it was overdue a wear, but I always picked something else to wear instead. This plain navy maxi skirt was the perfect pairing and let the tee be the statement in the outfit. The tee was thrifted for just $1 and the skirt was another thrift find at $4 making this a very affordable outfit!

The bag of course is on the more expensive side! This Rebecca Minkoff Regan is becoming a staple when I spend the day with my youngest while my eldest is in school. I can easily fit both our water bottles inside along with some wipes and hand sanitiser (and my phone and wallet of course) so it saves me also carrying a baby bag too. We had a busy morning but a relaxed afternoon at home before school pickup.

Last worn: abstract print tee, blush tassel necklace, navy maxi skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag.

Other ways to wearabstract print tee and shorts, navy maxi skirt with stripes, Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag and pencil skirt.

What's In My Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Regan

What I wore:

Necklace: engraved interlinked silver circle family name necklace
Top: Primark Edinburgh white graphic tee
Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt
Shoes:slim navy and pink Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

I purchased this tee on our Europe trip last year while shopping in Primark in Edinburgh. I wasn't sure how much wear I'd get from it but it worked out to be around $5 so I couldn't resist! It's actually been getting a bit of wear since I bought it - being a lover of blue I find it works so well with a lot of my wardrobe and it's nice to try wear a little bit more white. Couldn't resist going matchy-matchy and pairing the navy and white graphic tee with the navy and white striped maxi skirt.

Even my Havaianas and my Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag were navy, a very matchy-matchy outfit for me! After the school run we did a quick grocery shop, and then running a few errands after school pick up.

Last worn: Edinburgh graphic tee, silver necklace, navy striped maxi skirt, Havaianas (above), Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag (above).

How You Can Wear It:

A navy maxi skirt is a great wardrobe staple, and paired with a tee is a simple mum friendly outfit. For something a little different you can try introducing other prints and patterns with a printed or graphic tee, or stripes.

Foil Print Tees and Maxi Skirts With Balenciaga First Bag

Easy outfits for hot days with a maxi skirt and tee. I decided to get these foil print tees out again, they are a fun twist on a classic plain tee but still so wearable. And based on some of the tops I saw in stores the other week, the foil print trend is still around!

What I wore:

Tee: Jeanswest Flavia foil printed polka dot tee deep iris
Skirt: thrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

When I want to buy things I think of two ways to wear them right away. I knew I wanted to wear this ochre skirt with navy, blue and orange look so good together! I thought the gold foil polka dots tied in nicely with the rich colour of the skirt too. Can't believe this tee hasn't been worn in over a year! I definitely need to wear it more!

Couldn't resist adding a little extra colour to this with the turquoise necklace and the blue India Balenciaga first bag. I loved the way the addition of the third colour brought even more brightness to this outfit.

Only downside was that I realised while sitting at the sidelines of my son's tennis lesson that you could see the strapping of my injured knee through this skirt and it's not as opaque as I thought! Will be sure to keep that in mind for future wears!

Last worn: foil print polka dot tee, turquoise tassel necklace, ochre maxi skirt, New Balance sneakers, Balenciaga first bag.

Tee: Jeanswest Anika foil stripe tee in white and silver

Why I wore it:

Although I just recently wore this foil stripe tee with shorts, I picked it out to wear again as it's so fun to wear with the foil print. It was perfect with the maxi skirt for church. With the white tee and black skirt I felt a little extra colour was needed so I decided to wear these fun neon peach tassel earrings I got for Christmas. Surprisingly I haven't given them a wear yet!

The turquoise Balenciaga first bag was another bright burst of colour with this outfit, and I really liked the little additional colour touches. I wore the same shoes I've been wearing for weeks since my knee injury before the new year, my daggy old running shoes! Did cringe a little when I saw a Grandad at church wearing very similar shoes 😂

How You Can Wear It:

A foil print is a fun touch on a classic staple tee, and it's something that keeps popping up regularly in the stores. Just like a basic tee, they are so easy to wear! You can wear the tee with something plain on the bottom, like a maxi skirt, to avoid any print clash struggles.

Striped Tanks and Thrifted Maxi Skirts With Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag

When I bought these maxi skirts last month I knew I wanted to wear them with stripes right away! Although I just shared about them on Wednesday's Monthly purchase post, today I'm showing more details about some of the ways I've worn them. With a plain block colour maxi skirt, a striped tank is a great pairing.

What I wore:

Skirt: thrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt (new purchase)
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond

Why I wore it:

I really love the colour of this maxi skirt! As you can see it seems to change colour in different lights - it looks pretty similar to the tan bag at first but as you can see in the Insta pic it's a much more yellow tone. I did like the tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag with it though. It was the perfect size for carrying the essentials when we popped into the grocery store after church.

Unfortunately we didn't quite miss the storm was was threatening though and I got a little drenched running to the car! This maxi skirt was not fun to wear when wet! Will need to remember to keep it to rain-free days only.

With the striped tank and the block colour maxi skirt I added just a little print mixing with the tortoiseshell necklace. Simple outfit for a stormy day.

Why I wore it:

My other recently thrifted maxi skirt, I went a little more matchy-matchy with this one and stuck with a navy stripe tank to match the navy skirt. I even picked a blue beaded necklace to tie in with it too, along with the navy Havaianas!

The tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag was a nice bit of contrast with the navy - I really like the two neutrals together. Great outfit for the school run and a few errands on a hot summer day.

What I Bought In February And How I've Worn It: Second Hand Finds

After a big spend in January, I really wasn't intending on spending anything in February. However I couldn't resist just a little browse in the opshop when we passed by and ended up buying a couple of things! This month everything I got was second hand.

What I Bought:

Why I Bought It:

We were walking by the opshop when my son noticed the door was ajar and ran in so how could I say no? 😂 We did the usual checkout of books and toys before I had a small browse of the clothes. With nothing particularly in mind but an extra 50% off summer stock I tried a few things on. Being petite maxi skirts are hard to find - in regular stores as well as opshops! - so I wasn't sure these would fit well. So pleased to find out that they don't need any alteration! I suspect that the ochre maxi skirt is actually a midi skirt, but it's a maxi length on me. It's a beautiful shade - couldn't tell if it was more rust or mustard, and it seems to change colours in different lights! I think it's a true ochre.

I'm a little annoyed that the navy maxi skirt doesn't have any labels other than the fabric tag saying it's viscose as it's so soft and such a good fabric for summer. Such a great find and it's a shame I don't know the brand to be able to hunt out more!

The jeans are a little difficult to explain - an impulse buy when it was cooler with the wild weather and I wondered if I should get some jeans. I stumbled across these at a great price on eBay and was excited to get them. However when they arrived they were not in the condition the auction made them out to be. I emailed the seller with pics of the disappointing condition and asked if I could try wash them or if they wanted me to return them without trying anything. The seller then immediately apologised and refunded me. I then washed them and they came up good as new. Since the seller had cancelled the transaction and refunded me I couldn't do anything about it, leaving feedback or anything. I did offer to send them back now clean but she said to keep them. So technically, I paid nothing for these jeans. And then since that took a while to sort out, the weather heated up again so I haven't worn them yet. And I also feel really guilty that I didn't pay anything as I got my money refunded!

How I've Worn It:

I set myself the rule of wearing things twice in the month I buy them and even with being a little unwell for February I managed to meet that goal with the skirts. Maxi skirts just work so well into my life as a mum, the perfect length for church or the school run, and with the heat and humidity these light skirts have been a good choice. Was so easy to hit my wear twice goal with these skirts and I have so many more outfits in mind for them!

The jeans I didn't wear as it's just been too hot. They are sure to get more wear when Autumn weather finally arrives, now it's officially autumn we just have to wait for the summer heat to leave here in Brisbane! They are a very bold magenta so I'm excited to show them off once the weather cools down.

A few purchases even if I wasn't intending to buy anything this month! I'm pleased everything was preloved though, second hand shopping is a lot kinder to my wallet and the environment.

Weekday Wear Link Up: Pink Tees and Blue Printed Maxi Skirts with Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Sharing two similar casual outfits for today's Weekday Wear Linkup, that follow the same basic outfit formula but look very different. I like pink and blue together, so on some stay at home mum days I paired two different pink tees with printed blue maxi skirts and my Louis Vuitton Neverfull tote bag.

I share a lot of workwear looks for the linkup, but I only work part time so aside from the two days I'm in the office during the week I'm pretty casually dressed!

Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt

Why I wore it:

Decided to get pics of this lovely outfit while we were out by the bayside - unfortunately the tide was out so it's not as pretty as I thought it would turn out, haha! I had one on one time with my son and while we did have to get groceries on the way back home, we spent the morning playing by the sea and having a special morning tea just the two of us. By the time the tide had rolled in, my outfit was covered in cake, apple juice and sand so I wasn't going to try repeat the photos! 😂

This raspberry pink tee works so well with the navy stripe maxi skirt - I feel I haven't given this skirt much attention lately, it's a great basic piece and pairs so well with many colours. This raspberry tee was a Christmas gift from my mum and works well with all of the blue I have in my wardrobe! Matched the navy stripes with the navy and gold necklace and the navy and pink Havaianas. I love a bit of matchy-matchy.

The Louis Vuitton neverfull was perfect as I didn't take the baby bag. I carried the wipes, hand sanitiser and both our water bottles in it to save having to bring the baby bag along too.

Last worn: raspberry tee, navy and gold necklace, navy stripe maxi skirt, Havaianas, Louis Vuitton damier azur MM Neverfull tote.

Why I wore it:

Same outfit formula as the one above - pink tee, printed blue maxi skirt, but a lot brighter with the hot pink frill sleeve tee and the bright blue floral maxi skirt. I really liked this outfit - it was a bit of a bold pairing but it made me smile all day! I added the purple crescent necklace for a little extra colour but I'll be honest the pink tee is so bold you barely notice it!

Carried my Louis Vuitton Neverfull as I had a busy day ahead, including taking advantage of some rare kid-free time in the afternoon to finally go to the optician and discover that I did need new glasses (I use glasses for working at the computer). Turned into a very expensive day!

Last worn: fuchsia frill sleeve tee, crescent necklace, floral maxi skirt, Havaianas (above), Louis Vuitton damier azur Neverfull tote (above).

Blue Printed Maxi Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A blue printed maxi skirt looks great worn with a simple basic tee. You don't have to stick to neutrals though! You can pick a soft pink, or even a bold bright pink, for something a little different that's still just as comfortable. Pink and blue are a great combination in any shades!
