22 Ways To Wear A Grey Tee: Weekday Wear Link Up

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm sharing a bright and colourful outfit I wore to work from home, and sadly the last wearing of this grey tee, so I'm looking back at the 22 wears I managed to get from it!

What I wore:

work from home colourful style with magenta skinny jeans grey tee and floral navy kimono | awayfromblue

awayfromblue Instagram | navy floral cocoon blanket kimono with grey tee magenta skinny jeans
JacketCotton On 'Gemma' cocoon kimono in Laos blossom navy print
Necklace: Uniquely Made with Love Sea Change necklace
Tee: Atmos&Here grey v-neck tee with rolled sleeves
PantsSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate Jeans in magenta
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas

Why I wore it:

I adore this tee - so much so that I bought it in three colours! I have a burgundy one, this grey one and a black one. The black one has already left my wardrobe, I was hoping to get this grey tee to 30 wears but this last wear just confirmed to me it's stretched out just like the other black tee, sadly!

The super soft and stretchy fabric has elastane in it, which while making it very soft also doesn't survive a lot of heavy duty washes (and during breastfeeding a while ago I had to wash everything at 60℃, breastfeeding mums will know the pain!). This tee was frequently worn then but seemed to be coping much better than the black one and keeping its shape well. Until I realised I was constantly tugging and pulling at it all day, even though I wasn't doing anything too adventurous and just working from home. I'm sad it's left my wardrobe after just 22 wears, but it did last longer than the black version and it was my own fault not caring for it properly!

Issues with the tee aside, I really liked this outfit! In the cooler morning and with a video call booked in for work, I swapped my usual stay at home loungewear for this slouchy tee and the colourful but cosy floral kimono. I love how the navy with the pink flowers went with the magenta skinny jeans!

Last worn: floral kimono, beaded necklace, grey tee, Havaianas, Sass and Bide magenta skinny jeans.

Other ways to wearfloral kimono and maxi dress, grey tee and maxi skirt, Sass and Bide magenta skinny jeans and blazer.

Perfect for pregnancyfloral kimono at 39 weeks, grey tee in second trimester.

22 Ways To Wear A Grey Tee

Much like the time I showed you 30 ways to wear a (different) grey tee, I wear this a lot with denim! I was hoping to hit 30 wears with this tee but it was just too annoying to wear - I like comfortable clothes, I don't like to be pulling or fussing with what I wear! I also don't like worrying about the neckline creeping down when I'm on a work call!

I got it on sale for $17.46 from The Iconic, back in 2014 when I could never resist an Atmos & Here sale at The Iconic! It's definitely my most worn of the three colours I have this tee in, even though it didn't hit my goal of getting worn 30 times. It works out to 79 cents a wear, which isn't too bad, but I really wish I'd got more wears from it!

Here are some of the ways I styled it over the years:

Grey Tee and Blue Denim

5 ways to wear a grey tee and blue denim | awayfromtheblue

The most classic outfit you can ever have - a grey tee and blue denim. Shorts jeans, a grey tee works in all seasons. And you can always add a necklace, bag or kimono (or all three!) for a little extra colour.

Grey Tee in Monochrome Outfit

3 grey tee monochrome outfit ideas | away from blue

Such a simple way to wear a grey tee - just add something black like a skirt or jeans, and you have an easy monochrome outfit. Adding a bright necklace or bag is a good way to introduce a colour pop if you don't want to stick to just black and white.

Grey Tee and Colourful Pants

5 ways to wear a grey tee and colourful pants | awayfromtheblue

Of course it's not just blue jeans a grey tee works with! I liked wearing this grey tee with my more colourful jeans and pants, the neutral goes with any colour.

Grey Tee and Print Mixing

3 print mixing outfit ideas with a grey tee | away from blue
Taking advantage of this neutral grey tee as the base of an outfit, it lets me add in brightly coloured scarves and even a little bit of print mixing! From the subtle striped cardigan and leopard scarf, or the bolder chevron jeans and magenta skull scarf, the grey tee is a great backdrop for a mix of prints.

Grey Tee and Maxis

grey tees and maxi skirt 6 mum style outfit ideas | away from the blue

A grey tee is as much of a staple in my wardrobe as maxi skirts. It's an easy outfit for a warmer day, this grey tee goes with any colour or print of skirt. I've even layered it over a blue maxi dress before too, as you can see at the bottom there.

30 Ways To Wear: Mothers En Vogue Navy Breastfeeding Tank

This tank is such a wardrobe staple! An extremely useful breastfeeding piece, it has hidden nursing access and is such a super soft bamboo that I wasn't ready to give it away with the rest of my maternity / breastfeeding pieces. I decided to keep it in my wardrobe as a great wardrobe basic, and it's been such a good piece to have. For something that I got when pregnant with my now 5 and a half year old, it's really stood the test of time!

30 Ways To Wear: Navy Breastfeeding Tank

Cost per wear is tricky to calculate for this tank as I didn't actually pay anything for it, it was something I got through a blog partnership back when I was pregnant with my now 5 and a half year old! The retail was around $70 if I remember correctly and I certainly think it's worth the investment. You can get it on sale for cheaper here or the long sleeved version here.

While I have worn it 30 times, only 10 of those wears have been after I stopped breastfeeding. It was a staple breastfeeding tank for me and on frequent repeat back in those days. It really shows that if you invest in the right maternity / breastfeeding pieces, you can get a lot of wear from them in the future too. In fact, both of the Mothers En Vogue pieces I got in pregnancy are the two pieces that have stayed in my post-pregnancy wardrobe. I've shared 30 wears with the pink breastfeeding dress, the other piece I got, before.

When shopping in pregnancy, stick with neutral colours, like this indigo shade, or colours you already have a lot of in your non-maternity wardrobe. I'm going to be still using and loving this tank in the years to come (or whenever I get to get out the house again!). I like the bubble gathered effect and the neutral navy colour goes with everything. I'll show you some outfit pieces and colour combinations you can wear a similar piece with in your wardrobe!

Colour Combinations With A Navy Tank:

Navy Tank In Monochrome Outfits

Blue is my favourite colour so I love a good monochrome outfit, easily done by pairing this navy tank with other navy or blue pieces in my wardrobe. To stop the outfit looking too plain you can try wearing different sades of blue together, or try a printed navy piece with the block colour tank.

Navy Tank With Green

Blue and green is a colour combination I've only been wearing for a few years but I am not sure why I avoided it for so long! With the neutral navy, it looks good with bright emerald greens like the necklace and skirt, or the floral duster kimono, as well as a more muted green with the olive shorts.

Navy Tank With Pink

Blue and pink look great together - and these three outfits showcase that so well with different sades and amounts of pink. With bright magenta jeans, a pink bag or a blush blazer, there is no shade of pink that doesn't look good with navy!

Navy Tank With Purple

Blue and purple is another go-to colour combo for me. Just as you saw in the pink outfit set above, different shades or purple and different amounts of purple work well with this tank. Purple skinny jeans, purple accessories, and a purple cardigan. Even a pink, blue and purple outfit like the last one there with the purple kimono over the tank and the magenta pink bag.

Navy Tank With Red

Red really pops with navy! Again, you can do this in different ways. A red bag is a fun burst of colour with a neutral tank like this, or you can go a little bigger and bolder like the outfit in the middle with the red skirt worn with the navy tank. Even if the skirt does look a little orange in these pics, taken back when Brisbane had a lot of orange haze from the smoke last year.

Navy Tank With Yellow

Yellow is such a cheerful colour to wear, but sometimes it can feel a little overpowering. A nice neutral basic outfit building block like this navy tank works well with yellow. It really lets even a little bit of yellow, like a yellow necklace, really pop.

Outfit Ideas With a Navy tank:

Navy Tank with Denim

It's no surprise that I've worn this top with a lot of denim! Jeans are such a mum staple and you've seen this top worn a lot with denim in this post. These 4 outfits show you how you can mix it up a little with the denim - trying different colours, or a denim jacket instead of jeans. They also show how much I loved that Nibbly Bits necklace when breastfeeding! 😂 I suspect that necklace is part of the reason why my kids love playing with my accessories so much...

Navy Tank with Prints

And the final way you can wear a plain navy tank like this is with something printed! It's such a fail-safe outfit formula, a plain block-colour piece like this top with something bold and printed. Stripes are a firm favourite of mine, but printed jeans or even a tie dye kimono, any print works!

Where To Buy Navy Tanks Under $50:

Not all of these are specific maternity or breastfeeding pieces but they will still be staples in your wardrobe!

3 Blue Dress and Pink Bag Outfits: Weekday Wear Linkup

Bit of a long post for today's Weekday Wear Linkup, sharing 3 outfits I wore recently with blue dresses and pink bags. Both things I have a lot of in my wardrobe, they pair so perfectly together!

A dress is an easy not too formal but not too casual outfit for a training day too, and that's why I wore these outfits to a training course for work.

What I wore:

Jeanswest 'Chelsea' boho peasant navy printed dress with tassel earrings pink Balenciaga city bag | awayfromblue

Balenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | blue boho peasant dress with pink Balenciaga sorbet city bag
Earrings: Kmart navy tassel earrings
Dress: Jeanswest 'Chelsea' printed dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
Bracelets: the usual plus Edenborough Evans 'Ivy' silver cuff
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

I was surprised to see that I hadn't worn this dress and bag together before when I hunted through my blog archive. Both much loved pieces, I was sure I'd worn them together before!

I think the casual boho peasant style of the printed dress works really nicely with the slouchy pink Balenciaga city bag. The colour combo is great too!

Unfortunately these are not the shoes I wore. I've been taking pics in the morning with the shoes I've been wearing in the office and commuting in my daggy old sneakers to try reduce the pain on my knee. A frantic realisation we were out of bread for the kids breakfasts and a dash to the shops before breakfast and then trying to make it into the city on time, I'd forgotten to pick up the bag with these shoes to change into. Thankfully I made it to the course on time but I felt a bit out of place with the sneakers!

Last worn: boho printed dress, navy tassel earrings, tan ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet pink city bag.

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

Thankfully I remembered the bag with my shoes in it this time so I was able to wear these lovely ballet flats during the day! I really like the way all the accessories matched with the silver multi strand necklace, metallic ballet flats, and silver hardware on the Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag.

This blue Paisley print sheath dress is a firm favourite too and was what I wore to the first day of training, as I wasn't sure about the dress code. Something I've worn for important meetings and to be dressed down for casual Friday, this dress is so versatile! I like the way the pastel pink Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag went with the Paisley print too.

Why I wore it:

Another blue dress and another pink bag! This isn't even all my blue dresses or pink bags, I really do have a few! I liked the way this magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag popped with the navy Ikat print dress.

Like the other blue dresses above, this is a favourite and I even took it to Europe with me last year.

Rather than wear a statement necklace I went with my Tiffany diamond necklace and the silver leaf earrings which are a perfect statement on their own, and added a little extra colour with the skinny lilac belt. This belt is an old one I rediscovered after finally finding the box of belts I'd hidden away in pregnancy a while back. Unfortunately being pleather, being stored in a box for years in the Queensland heat and humidity has not been kind to it and it actually disintegrated and snapped when I unbuckled it at the end of the day. Such a shame!

How You Can Wear It:

Blue and pink look so good together and as you can see in each of these outfits, you can pair any shade of blue with any shade of pink! Using bright accessories like these pink bags is a fun way to try out the colour combo and shows you how versatile a pink bag can be, it's easy to wear with colourful printed pieces and not just neutrals!

What I Bought In February And How I've Worn It: Second Hand Finds

After a big spend in January, I really wasn't intending on spending anything in February. However I couldn't resist just a little browse in the opshop when we passed by and ended up buying a couple of things! This month everything I got was second hand.

What I Bought:

Why I Bought It:

We were walking by the opshop when my son noticed the door was ajar and ran in so how could I say no? 😂 We did the usual checkout of books and toys before I had a small browse of the clothes. With nothing particularly in mind but an extra 50% off summer stock I tried a few things on. Being petite maxi skirts are hard to find - in regular stores as well as opshops! - so I wasn't sure these would fit well. So pleased to find out that they don't need any alteration! I suspect that the ochre maxi skirt is actually a midi skirt, but it's a maxi length on me. It's a beautiful shade - couldn't tell if it was more rust or mustard, and it seems to change colours in different lights! I think it's a true ochre.

I'm a little annoyed that the navy maxi skirt doesn't have any labels other than the fabric tag saying it's viscose as it's so soft and such a good fabric for summer. Such a great find and it's a shame I don't know the brand to be able to hunt out more!

The jeans are a little difficult to explain - an impulse buy when it was cooler with the wild weather and I wondered if I should get some jeans. I stumbled across these at a great price on eBay and was excited to get them. However when they arrived they were not in the condition the auction made them out to be. I emailed the seller with pics of the disappointing condition and asked if I could try wash them or if they wanted me to return them without trying anything. The seller then immediately apologised and refunded me. I then washed them and they came up good as new. Since the seller had cancelled the transaction and refunded me I couldn't do anything about it, leaving feedback or anything. I did offer to send them back now clean but she said to keep them. So technically, I paid nothing for these jeans. And then since that took a while to sort out, the weather heated up again so I haven't worn them yet. And I also feel really guilty that I didn't pay anything as I got my money refunded!

How I've Worn It:

I set myself the rule of wearing things twice in the month I buy them and even with being a little unwell for February I managed to meet that goal with the skirts. Maxi skirts just work so well into my life as a mum, the perfect length for church or the school run, and with the heat and humidity these light skirts have been a good choice. Was so easy to hit my wear twice goal with these skirts and I have so many more outfits in mind for them!

The jeans I didn't wear as it's just been too hot. They are sure to get more wear when Autumn weather finally arrives, now it's officially autumn we just have to wait for the summer heat to leave here in Brisbane! They are a very bold magenta so I'm excited to show them off once the weather cools down.

A few purchases even if I wasn't intending to buy anything this month! I'm pleased everything was preloved though, second hand shopping is a lot kinder to my wallet and the environment.

Two Ways To Wear A Navy V-Neck Tee: Jeanswest Sophie V-Neck Tee

This navy tee is one of the ones I picked up from Jeanswest during my massive Christmas gift card shopping spree. They'd only brought out into the store that day (the sales assistant had trouble scanning it) and so it was perfect timing! While I love blue I didn't have a navy v-neck tee. So pleased I do now! It works so well with the other pieces I have in my wardrobe, and I'm wearing it two different ways below.

What I wore:

navy v neck jeanswest tee with ally fashion floral maxi skirt pink accessories on monochrome blue outfit | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony with monochromatic blue outfit | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: Kmart pink multi-colour beaded necklace
TeeJeanswest Sophie navy v-neck tee
SkirtAlly Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

Just knew I had to pair this navy tee with this blue maxi skirt. Something my mum got me for Christmas, this skirt has been on frequent repeat lately as it's so perfect for summer! I really liked the navy with the brighter blue of the skirt, and accessorising was so simple. The blush necklace and peony pink Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag work so well with the pink flowers in the floral print.

This was a quick and easy outfit to pull together to head over to my friends house to watch Church Online. The maxi skirt accommodated the knee brace I've been wearing when I have to drive long distances, even though she just lives 30 minutes away driving really aggravates my knee after I injured it after Christmas.

Really liked all the colours in this outfit, made my matchy-matchy self very happy, especially when I added the navy and pink Havaianas to stick with the colour scheme, haha!

Last worn: floral maxi skirt, pink beaded necklace, navy Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag. First time I've worn the navy tee as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearfloral maxi skirt with turqouise, Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag and sundress.

ShortsJeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

These embroidered soft shorts are a summer fave for me and I like wearing them with blue - I added the navy tee and couldn't resist wearing this blue tie-dye kimono too, I thought all the blue went so nicely together with the olive. I added even more colour with the mustard Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag for a bit of a contrast, and my little turquoise tassel necklace which I often wear with green.

A nice comfortable and colourful outfit for walking along the bike trail and then visiting the park with the boys. I didn't wear my knee brace, instead I put on my old but supportive New Balance sneakers to help reduce the impact on my injured knee as we walked around. The boys could scoot and cycle much faster than I could limp along, but luckily hubby was there to help and keep an eye on them if they went too far while I trailed behind, haha! It was a hot day so the kimono wasn't really needed, but it was nice to have some extra sun protection for my arms.

30 Ways To Wear: Navy Printed Kimono | #30wears Challenge

Another kimono for this months 30 wears post! Surprisingly it's only the second time I've featured a kimono for one of these posts, despite wearing kimonos frequently. I think it's because I have so many it takes me a while to build up 30 wears on one of them.

Every month I look back through my blog archives and find something I've worn 30 times or more to create these posts. One of the benefits of photographing and blogging what I wear each day for over 8 years, it's easy to see how often things are worn!

30 Ways To Wear: Navy Printed Kimono

30 Ways To Wear a Navy Printed Kimono: Outfit Ideas | Away From The Blue blog

I bought this kimono from ASOS, on sale when I was pregnant with my youngest boy at the end of 2015. It has been worn a lot, which surprises me to see that it's taken a little over 4 years to get to 30 wears with it. I think it's just because I have so many kimonos as I said above.

Cost Per Wear

I paid $22 for this kimono on sale, so at 30 wears that's 73 cents a wear, which is really good! This kimono still looks new too, it hasn't faded or worn. I'm really happy with it, and it will of course be staying in my wardrobe to be worn even more.

So here are the ways I've worn it, and some outfit ideas and colour combinations you can try.

Navy Kimono With Denim

6 outfit ideas with navy printed kimono and denim spring and summer | awayfromblue

Of course the outfit formula you'll see me wearing the most is a kimono and denim. There's something about a casual kimono that makes it the best topper for a denim outfit - whether it's skinny jeans or denim shorts! I like adding a kimono when I've got some denim in my outfit.

Printed Kimono With Dresses

3 ways to wear navy kimono and dresses | awayfromtheblue

There are other things that look great with kimonos! I like adding them to dresses - from a shorter chambray dress in the middle there to the two black maxi dresses, I think kimonos are perfect with any length of dress. They are a nice way to cover up your shoulders as well when wearing a sleeveless dress, for sun protection or a little extra warmth.

Navy Kimono With Skirts

3 outfit ideas styling a navy printed kimono with skirts | away from the blue

Just like the dresses above, you'll find that a kimono works well with any length of skirt! I like the slouchy relaxed look it gives when worn with a maxi skirt, and it's a nice way to dress down a pencil skirt a little more too when you are wearing it outside of the office as I am in the first and third outfits here.

Some Colour Combinations To Try With a Navy Kimono:

Blue Kimono Worn With Black

colour combination outfit ideas with navy kimono and black | away from the blue

I really like black and blue together! With the addition of the navy printed kimono, these basic black tank and denim outfits are a little bit more colourful and interesting.

Navy Kimono With Red

3 ways to wear a navy printed kimono with red pieces | 30wears awayfromtheblue

Red and blue are a fun and colourful combination - you can try a basic red tee under a kimono, or a bolder outfit with a pair of red skinny jeans like I have in the middle there. Any amount of red looks good with navy.

Blue Printed Kimono With Pink Accessories

5 outfit ideas with a navy blue kimono and pink accessories | awayfromblue blog

Pink and blue are so good together! This set of outfit ideas shows you a great way to try a new colour combo - you can take it small and simple by wearing a pink accessory with a blue kimono. Could be a statement necklace like in the middle, or a bit bigger and bolder with a pink bag. You can see I really like wearing my neon pink mini MAC with this kimono!

Navy Kimono Worn With Green

colourful outfit combinations navy printed kimono with green | away from blue

While I used to avoid wearing blue and green together, when I tried the combo I realised that blue and green really should be seen! No matter what the old fashion "rule" says. This neutral navy kimono works well with every shade of green.

Blue Printed Kimono In Pregnancy

navy printed kimono in pregnancy with baby bump awayfromtheblue blog

Much like accessories, kimonos are the best as they work in all trimesters of pregnancy! I loved being able to feel like myself by wearing a favourite kimono no matter how big my belly grew. It's always fun looking back at the bump pics when I'm putting these posts together too. You don't need to splurge on a maternity kimono - as you never button it up any kimono works well with a baby belly!

What I Bought in December And January, And How I've Worn It

Well 2020 has been off to a strange start! And not just because of all the wild events recently, I'm talking specifically about my shopping. This is a personal style blog after all!

I started the new year with my intention, the same as last year, to spend less than I did the previous year. Yet at the end of January, I've bought a lot more than expected! I actually only have 1 Christmas gift card left! A few impulse buys and a few fear-driven purchases. I covered it all in the video below with a quick summary you can read through too.

What I Bought:

Why I Bought It:

Now my favourite store (Jeanswest) is in administration and closing stores I wanted to spend the last of my Christmas gift cards ASAP. They can change the terms and conditions with the gift cards when a chain is in administration and that has happened with other stores that have closed here in Australia, from requiring you to spend a set amount before you can use a gift card to just refusing to accept them.

I tried to shop sensibly and buy basics I can wear over and over, and I'm pleased with what I got but also it wasn't anything I really felt I needed. Although to be honest with a wardrobe the size of mine, there's nothing that's really a need! So pleased I got some cute things with the Christmas gifts I was given, and that I got to spend them before the rules around using gift cards possibly changes. Really hoping that Jeanswest doesn't shut down completely though - where else would I do the majority of my clothes shopping!?

How I've Worn It:

waht I've bought and how I've worn it: wardrobe remix with january Jeanswest sale finds

I have a rule that every time I want to buy something I have to think of two different ways I will immediately wear it that month. I didn't do too badly with this goal this month at all....the opshopped jacket doesn't suit the weather at all and so hasn't been worn, but I wasn't going to pass on a jacket for just $1! I bought more than I needed to this month for sure, usually I spread my gifts cards through the year but I was focused on spending all my Jeanswest ones this month. I did enjoy wearing everything and did quite well with the goal, but also didn't get to my twice a wear figure with the jeans and the jacket as they aren't suited for summer temps.

For the upcoming months...I'm either going to spend a fortune at the Jeanswest closing down sales or the closure of one of the stores I frequently shop in will help me meet my spend less target this year!
