Embroidered Tops, Black Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Bags

I'm pleased that the embroidery trend is continuing! Gives me more justification to wear these lovely embroidered pieces from my wardrobe. I'll still wear them when the trend dies down, but it's nice to be able to wear something I'm constantly reading about in blogs. An embroidered top and black skinny jeans is an easy stay at home mum outfit, but to add extra interest to each outfit I have wore additional prints and texture too.

Why I wore it:

Hadn't worn this jacket for a while so it was nice to get it out again! I wasn't sure if the embellishment paired with the embroidery on the top would be too much, but I quite liked the resulting outfit. It was a nice change from last time I wore this embroidered top with black jeans too. Now that it's spring and warmer weather, I can hopefully wear this jacket more. It's a bit thin for winter.

I like how this jacket dresses up a casual outfit a bit - even if I was just popping out for a little shopping while hubby watched the boys.

Why I wore it:

I've tried to wear other prints with these chevron printed Sass & Bide jeans in the past and not been entirely happy with the results. Just like the first outfit, I decided to try something different by pairing the chevrons with the detail on this embroidered top. I liked the result, but not enough to want to wear it again, haha! Will stick with wearing plain black jeans with this embroidered top next time.

Even though the embroidery and print together was busy enough, I added a little extra texture with the cardigan. I love the purple accessories with this - the cardigan is so cosy and wearing the cardigan and plum mini MAB tote bag together is a favourite combination of mine. Kept me warm on a very windy day.

The plan was to go to the in-laws for dinner, but after baby boy wasn't his usual happy self when we went out in the morning, we decided to stay home at night and let him rest and feel better. It's been such a tough winter with illnesses, I'm glad it's spring now as I'm hoping the warm weather and sunshine keeps the bugs at bay.

How You Can Wear It:

Black jeans are a great base for any outfit! The are the perfect backdrop to let an embroidered top or jacket shine. You can mix things up a little by buying black jeans with a print on them if you feel plain black is too boring.

Wrap Tops In Winter With Skinny Jeans, Converse and Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere

Although you don't seem to see wrap tops around on blogs as often now, I still love the style and I especially love how breastfeeding friendly they are! If you're on a budget it's better to buy a regular wrap top instead of paying the high price for a special 'breastfeeding brand' wrap top. They are the same product.

While wrap tops are nice to wear, they are a little plain so I added a print to my outfit for a little something extra.

Why I wore it:

Wore this as I wanted something nice and comfortable and practical for Baby Boy's orientation day at day care. It basically means I get to spend the day there with him getting him used to the room and the routine so it's not a big shock for him when I go back to work. It was fun, although I did end up covered in pasta sauce. Better than toddler T's orientation day where my shirt got ruined!

As I was going to be inside all day, I just needed a light layer so this striped duster cardigan was perfect.

I did regret adding the silicone teething necklace to this outfit though. I thought it would comfort Baby Boy to have it to play with if he got upset and needed cuddles, but I underestimated exactly how attractive the bright beads are to babies! Lots of the other kids at daycare tried to grab it a few times, oops.

Was nice wearing this wrap top again as it had been packed away with my winter things. While it's sold out in blue as this is from last year, it's still available in red.

Why I wore it:

Unfortunately, the meeting we had planned for this morning was cancelled after the other person had been up all night with an unwell teething baby and slept through their alarm. I've done that a few times myself! Decided to spend the time grocery shopping instead since we were all up and ready. Not as exciting, but a good way to use the free time we suddenly had.

A few more layers with this wrap top as I was going outside and winter weather is definitely here in Queensland. Added the cobalt scarf for a bit of colour and to cover up the v shaped neckline and keep my chest cosy. Because I added the blue scarf, I wore my blue mac as well. I really liked this combination and it was a good way to add some colour to an otherwise monochromatic outfit with the grey wrap top and printed jeans.

How You Can Wear It:

The usual fashion advice is to not buy into trendy pieces. However, like these wrap tops, if the trend is something that works for you and your lifestyle, go for it! Trends are a fun way to try something different, and you could find yourself with a new favourite style. Most trends (like off the shoulder) I let pass me by but wrap tops are so perfect for breastfeeding I just had to buy 3 of them!

I'm going to continue to wear these tops in the years to come, even if they aren't the trendy thing any more, as they work for me. As a very wise and stylish lady once said: wear it because you love it, not just because it's what's 'in' at the moment.

Colourful Winter Dressing: Printed Jeans with Pink and Cobalt

I love blue and pink together, so I like to wear it year-round. While I do tend to wear more neutrals in winter (it makes layering easy as everything goes), it's nice to add a little bit of colour or a fun print to your outfit sometimes. The cobalt leather jacket I'm wearing in the outfits below is both cosy and colourful, and paired with pink it makes for a cheerful winter outfit.

A neutral bag is an essential in both outfits while I have so much else going on with the prints and colour.

Why I wore it:

Had a busy but kid-free few hours when I wore this. The beading on this ombre tank is beautiful but I worry about how it will hold up with tiny little grabby hands so it's been a while since it was last worn! I was pregnant with Baby Boy when I last wore it. 😲 Definitely a piece that feels more special and doesn't get worn for everyday stay at home mum duties.

When I was thinking of what to wear and putting this outfit together I worried it maybe had a little too much going on, with the beaded ombre tank, bright cobalt jacket and printed jeans. But I loved this final outfit. The neutral Balenciaga bag was a good choice so it didn't compete with all the print and colour. I was happy and comfortable all day, despite running late to almost every appointment, oops.

Why I wore it:

This was what I wore for the instagram style challenge prompt of 'shop your wardrobe'. Which applies to every outfit I've worn since my last purchase in December! I didn't plan anything special to meet the style challenge prompt for the day, I just wanted to wear this tank and the leopard print jeans together as I thought it would be a nice combination.

Again I went with a neutral bag, the metallic mini MAC, as my outfit felt quite busy already with the colours and print together. I felt completely different in this outfit compared to the one above though. I'd been so sure about this as I planned it out in my head, only to put it on in the morning and felt it was missing something. I added the necklace but I'm still not sure that was what the outfit needed - maybe a scarf instead.

As we were running late for books and rhymes at the library I just wore it anyway. Not one of the worst outfits I've worn, as I didn't completely hate it, just another of those cases where the outfit doesn't look as good as you think it will in your head! I did really like the cobalt jacket and leopard print jeans together at least - I'll have to try that again soon.

How You Can Wear It:

While neutral layers are practical and make winter layering easy, you can have some fun with your outfit by adding more colour, as statement print, or both! If you're experimenting with colour and prints in your outfit, you might want to pick a classic neutral handbag that won't compete for attention.

Summer tanks can be a fun addition to your winter wardrobe, and with the right layers can be worn year round. While I'm wearing a colourful leather jacket above, a bright cardigan or scarf would work just as well to add more colour. Printed jeans can also be worn year-round to add another element of interest to your outfits.

Rebecca Minkoff Saddle Bag with Black and Red Skinny Jeans Outfits

I love this little red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag! I don't have any other crescent shaped bags so it's a nice addition to my wardrobe and it's just the right size for keeping all my essentials (keys, wallet phone) nearby when I'm out with the toddlers. The crossbody feature makes it a practical choice for a mum!

One way to wear such a bright red bag is a pop of colour with a neutral outfit. But for these outfits, I'm embracing the red and wearing red clothing as well for cheerful and colourful winter outfits.

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a busy morning, a few appointments to go to and taking Cooper for a very overdue grooming. While this red cardigan is only a light one, with all the running around I was warm enough, and even took the scarf off when it heated up.

This tank is starting to go from a metallic tank to a plain black tank pretty quickly! I think the more I wash it, the less sparkly it gets! It's definitely a keeper though, so soft and I like the way it's just a little oversized, perfect for partially tucking in. Even if it's not as colourful as it once was.

The skull print scarf is one I've worn with these printed jeans in the past - I wasn't too sure of it then but I loved it this time around with the addition of the red cardigan. Was really happy with this cheerful and bright outfit.

Why I wore it:

Although the tee's a little more burgundy and the bag is more of a cherry red, I thought they looked nice together and it was just enough red to wear for World MS day!

I've worn orange and red together a handful of times - so I knew this lovely ombre scarf would work nicely with the tee. I had been wanting to wear the red tee with the striped duster but couldn't get the half tuck to look right. Added the scarf and I was instantly happier with how the tee looked untucked. I really really liked this outfit, which made it all the more frustrating when it was promptly ruined by a potty training toddler. Thankfully everything was machine washable, and it happened after Baby Boy's specialist appointment.

That's the best pieces of fashion advice I could ever give to a mum - make sure you can machine wash all your clothes! 😂

How You Can Wear It

A red bag is a fun pop of colour with a neutral outfit, but don't be afraid to wear some red in your outfit too! The red shades don't have to match exactly to look good together. You can make an outfit like this with any colourful bag, it doesn't have to just be a red one. 

Have fun creating easy and colourful outfits when you pick a piece of clothing to wear that's the same or a similar shade to the bag you're wearing.

Grey and Pink: Tees and Printed Jeans

Another grey tee post! In the final month of #6monthsWithoutShopping, I'm often feeling uninspired and picking something to wear and create outfits from like my grey tees or graphic tees is a good way for me to come up with outfits. Grey and pink is a colour combination I like to wear often, and both these outfits with my printed jeans show that nicely.

Why I wore it:

Starting to get a little too chilly now for short sleeves - winter weather has arrived in Brisbane. It was a milder day when I wore this though and I didn't need any extra layers. Had a busy morning with baby boy's weekly weigh and a doctors appointment and then spent some time with my mum and sister in the afternoon.

While I have tried wearing other prints with these fun Sass & Bide printed jeans, my favourite way to wear them is with plain basics like this grey tee. The monochrome outfit felt a little dull until I added the pink vest for a bit of colour, along with the bright teething necklace.

Why I wore it:

Wore this to go to my local ABA mother's group. As it was a little cooler and raining on this day, I wanted something long sleeved so had a rummage through my box of winter things. This grey tee is one I've pulled back from the donate pile before. It's got zips on either side of the hem (that you can kind of see in the second photo) but I still worried it was a little dull for winter. I'm glad I kept it around as it pairs well with other brighter colours to make winter layering easy!

The pink leopard print jeans are always fun to wear, and met Shea's Live Your Best Life for Less style challenge of 'leopard spring brights' with just one item. Even though it's winter here in Australia, I've had fun with the prompts as I can usually find something that matches to wear in the cold. It's no secret I like pink and purple together, so the purple bag seemed like a good choice, especially when worn with the teething necklace.

How You Can Wear It:

A grey tee is a great wardrobe basic, but your outfits don't have to be basic when you wear it! Try adding more interest with a pair of printed pants, or a scarf. A grey tee is a great pairing with a statement printed piece like leopard print. You can also add another layer, like the pink vest, for a little colour pop against the grey tee.

Cardigans, Jeans and Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere: Live Your Best Life for Less

Both of these outfits were worn to take part in Shea's Live your Best Life for Less challenge. It's a set of lifestyle challenges for each day of the week, and she's included a few style challenges that I've been able to participate in despite the weather being the opposite season here in Brisbane. It's been good to have some new ideas when picking what to wear in my wardrobe. It's been difficult getting inspired sometimes as my 6 months without shopping is almost completed and I haven't added anything new to my wardrobe.

Why I wore it:

As well as taking the 'bright shoes with a neutral outfit' style prompt from Shea, I copied one of her poses on Instagram too! When I read that challenge I instantly thought of these red ballet flats. I adore them, but I really don't wear them often! Despite having them over 5 years, I haven't even hit 30 wears on them. It was so good to get them out again, and they do look lovely with the neutral outfit.

This tank I'd been wanting to wear for a while, I love the peplum hem, very flattering on a post-baby mum-tum. If I can still claim the post-baby label now Baby Boy is over a year old!

Why I wore it:

I wore this last month, when we had our first cooler day in a while and I was so excited for scarf season. Of course the days warmed up again afterwards, but I enjoyed wearing this briefly before the heat returned.

The beautiful gold foil feather scarf was a Christmas gift from my sister, so it was nice to give it a wear at last! She has such great taste. I thought the feather print worked nicely with the striped tee. First time I've worn these jeans for a while too. While my favourite jeans are skinny jeans, I do have a couple of other styles in my denim wardrobe. These flares are a pair I finally got hemmed after my wardrobe detox session a few years ago, and I'm glad I did as I wear them a lot more now. I'm petite so unhemmed flared jeans and flats don't work, I really need the length taken up first!

Again this was worn for a quiet day. We went shopping for a birthday gift for one of Toddler T's friends. It's always so fun shopping for kids toys, even if it's not for your own kids.

How You Can Wear It:

Cardigans go with everything! They are the perfect light layer when it's a little chilly, and I wear mine the most in spring and autumn. Pick a printed one like in the first outfit it what you're wearing is a lot of plain, block colour items. It's a nice way to add some interest to an otherwise monochromatic outfit too. A basic grey cardigan works perfectly for an outfit where you are playing with colour and print too, like with the stripes and feathers the second outfit. Whenever you're stuck for outfit ideas, style challenges are a great way to come up with new ways to wear what you own.
