Weekday Wear Link Up: Grey Tees and Plain Maxi Skirts With Mini MAC Bag

Enjoying the spring like weather right at the end of winter last month I wore some simple maxi skirt and tee outfits with a couple of my grey tees and my blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag.

What I wore:

awayfromblue ochre amber maxi skirt with grey tee and blue mini mac bag spring style

awayfromtheblue rebecca minkoff sky grey blue mini mac bag with ochre amber maxi skirt

Necklace: Happiness Boutique turquoise and coral pendant necklace (C/O)
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Skirt: thrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a beautifully sunny public holiday. Since the Ekka (our Queensland state show) was cancelled they moved the Wednesday public holiday to Friday instead to give everyone a long weekend. The weather was so nice we headed out with the kids around our favourite trail. I wasn't expecting it to be quite so busy though! It's usually so quiet we can go the entire time without seeing more than 2 people, but I guess with the public holiday everyone wanted to enjoy the spot. Thankfully the outdoors is a great place to keep our distance, and the kids showed their Dad some of their "hidden" paths off the trail we have taken before where we didn't see anyone for a while.

Since it was such a warm day I just wore a simple outfit, I liked the last time I wore a grey tee with this ochre maxi skirt, and this darker grey tee was even better than the last one I tried. Since hubby was there to carry the baby bag I just wore my Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC for keeping my essentials with me - I often use the camera on my phone to take pics as we walk around here. I thought the blue was nice with the ochre skirt.

What I wore:

Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl zesty stripe tassel scarf in pink
Tee: Jeanswest 'Lucy' colour block tee in grey marle/rosebud
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag

Why I wore it:

This day was even warmer than the one above, although it was pretty windy too! I decided to add this fun pink striped scarf to my outfit, as the grey tee and the black maxi skirt were a little plain together. Even though the grey tee has a contrasting pink panel on the back it looked a little monochrome from the front. I thought the scarf complimented the pink on the tee nicely, even if it did keep blowing around a bit when I tried to get photos!

Again I wore my little blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag, it goes well with pink and grey.

This was a nice outfit for a busy day with the school run, working from home and an appointment for my son in the afternoon.

How You Can Wear It:

A simple grey tee and maxi skirt outfit is a great option to keep you cool on a warm day. You can keep it monochromatic like I have in the second outfit and add some colour with accessories, or let the skirt be the pop of colour like I have in the first outfit with the ochre skirt.

Skinny Jeans, Printed Tanks And Cardigans

Making the most of the warmer winter weather just before spring arrived, I got some of my printed tanks out when all I needed to add was a light cardigan. Wore some colourful jeans with them too.

What I wore:

green skinny jeans, grey cardigan and yellow and navy aztec print tank with silver mini mac bag and accessories | awayfromblue

green skinny jeans with Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC | away from the blue

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Necklace: Target silver Alisha trinity pendant necklace
TankAtmos&Here 'Florida' tank in Aztec print
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

Wanted to wear light and colourful layers as it was such a warm day, so this 3/4 sleeve cardigan and a printed tank were perfect. Surprisingly it's the first time I've worn this mustard tank with the green skinny jeans! I really like wearing yellow with these green jeans so I was surprised to look back on the blog and see I hadn't paired the two together before.

I was a little disappointed to see I hadn't worn this tank in over a year and a half too - it really needs to be worn more often, it's a comfortable swing style and goes with so much - last time I wore it with purple.

With the printed tank and bright green jeans I kept the accessories simple with the matching silver mini MAC bag and silver circle necklace. Just wish it had been a little warmer at the end of the day! This outfit was perfect for the school run in the morning and afternoon but I had to layer up with a thicker coat for my son's sports in the evening when it got really cold.

What I wore:

purple cardigan striped tank skull print scarf and magenta skinny jeans outfit with mini mac bag | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag with magenta skinny jeans | away from the blue

Jacket: Jeanswest Peggie kimono cardigan in purple mulberry marle

TankAtmos & Here Oregon stripe tank
JeansSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate jeans in magenta
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue (and Rebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag)

Why I wore it:

This was a really fun day! Spent the day with my sister taking her around our fave trail, enjoying the sunshine and the trees sheltering us from the worst of the wind. It was so nice to get out and treat ourselves to a takeaway lunch afterwards.

Added this light scarf to try combat the wind a little. This neon pink Alexander McQueen skull scarf is frequently worn with stripes, I really like the combination and despite it being a different shade of pink with the magenta skinny jeans I think they worked well together. Surprisingly I haven't worn this scarf at all this winter! I have been living in loungewear since we go out so little though, hubby and I share the school runs so I don't go out every day.

Keeping up with all the colour I added my purple cardigan and blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag. I did say I'd be wearing this cardigan and these jeans together again last time I wore them - the purple is such a nice shade with the magenta!

As you can see I swapped to my Rebecca Minkoff Julian bag to carry all the water bottles and some snacks on our little hike, but I wore the mini MAC bag for the school run and a quick Kmart shop in the afternoon.

Last worn: purple cardigan, pink and cream skull scarf, black and white stripe tank, magenta skinny jeans, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC, Rebecca Minkoff Julian.

How You Can Wear It:

A printed tank is a great combination with a pair of colourful jeans. You can add a light cardigan or scarf if it's a little cooler. Either stick with neutrals to balance out a colourful tank and jeans combo like I have in the first outfit with the grey cardigan, or layer up even more colour like I have in the second outfit with the pink scarf and purple cardigan.

30 Ways To Wear: Balenciaga City Bag Sorbet Pink & Weekday Wear Link Up

Today's Weekday Wear Post is another from the 30 wears series, showing you 30 ways I've worn this sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag.

Each month I search through my blog archives to find something I've worn 30 ways or more over the years I've owned it, to put this post together and give you some ideas and inspiration for how you can wear something similar in your own wardrobe. The Weekday Wear Linkup is at the end of the post for you to link up your latest style post!

30 Ways to Wear: Balenciaga Sorbet Pink City Bag

30 ways to wear balenciaga sorbet pink city bag outfit ideas | Away From Blue Blog

Despite being a very vibrant pink, this bag is so versatile and goes with a lot of my wardrobe. I really like blue and pink together, and have a lot of blue in my wardrobe, so you can see why this bag has fit in so well!

Cost Per Wear

I ordered this bag from the Balenciaga London boutique back in 2010, at over 10 years old it's held up really well! Definitely showing its age more now, but still a bag I adore and I like the broken in slouch it has. It's been worn over 60 times in those 10 years so it's held up well! Sometimes I wore the bag in two outfits on those posts that I found in my blog search, but those are harder to count without going through every pic so we will say 60 wears.

Unfortunately the only record I have of the sale is in pounds, as I ordered from the UK store and I don't remember the exchange rate. It was £799.15, including the £80(!!!) shipping. That works out at £13.32 a wear so far. Still pretty high but for a splurge-worthy bag like this I see myself using for a long time still I know I'll get the cost per wear down much further.

30 Ways To Wear: Video Style

Pink Balenciaga City Bag With A Little Black Dress

4 ways to wear little black dresses with pink balenciaga sorbet city bag awayfromblue

Probably the simplest way to wear a pink bag - against a black outfit! I have a few little black dresses (a couple which were my go-tos during my pregnancies too) so it's no surprise I've worn this pink bag with a black dress so often.

Pink Bag As A Pop Of Colour

4 ways to wear Balenciaga city bag as a pop of colour with outfit awayfromblue

Of course it's not just black that this pink bag pops with! It goes really nicely with other neutrals like grey or white, and it's so simple to add it to an outfit as a bright pop of colour. It stands out so well on it's own it is a great pop of colour.

Pink Balenciaga City Bag Matching Other Pink Pieces In An Outfit

5 ways to wear pink balenciaga city bag sorbet 2010 with matching pieces in outfit away from blue

Matchy-matchy is one of my favourite ways to wear a bright bag though and I find a lot of pink things in my outfit go with this bag, even if the shades are different. Something like the Balenciaga studded sandals which were a lucky sale find on a Melbourne trip and match the bag exactly, or a pink belt, necklace, scarf, even pink in the print of a top or a more subtle match with pink sunglasses! I really like finding different pieces to match with this bag.

Pink Bag With Purple Pieces In An Outfit

3 pink and purple accessory outfit ideas away from blue blog

There are some colour combinations I consistently wear with this pink Balenciaga city bag. I think pink and purple go so well together and while I have worn this pink bag with the purple leopard print scarf a few times I think it goes nicely with other shades of purple like the cardigan in the middle.

Pink Balenciaga City Bag With Blue Outfits

5 ways to wear Balenciaga city bag in sorbet pink RH with blue outfits different shades awayfromtheblue

This is easily one of my most worn colour combinations with this bag, and I definitely had an overabundance of blue outfits with this pink bag to chose from for this post when I searched through my blog archives! It just compliments it so well, the sorbet pink goes with any shade of blue from navy to a lighter blue, and it works with prints, tops, skirts, dresses...

Pink Bag In Office Outfits

4 outfit ideas with balenciaga pink sorbet city bag in the office awayfromtheblue

The Balenciaga city is a very relaxed style of bag, and a very bold pink! I still think it can work in an office environment though - and back when we still worked in offices, this got a lot of wear. It was nice to have a fun, cheerful and colourful item on my desk to make me smile! And despite the relaxed slouchy style the city bag works well with a pencil skirt or sheath dress.

Pink Balenciaga City Bag In Pregnancy

5 outfit ideas balenciaga city bag in pregnancy all trimesters sorbet pink colour awayfromblue

Having had this sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag over 10 years, I've had it before I had both my boys and so I've been able to wear and enjoy it in my pregnancies with them, so it's fun to look back on. And no matter how big the baby bump gets, a handbag will always fit!

Just for fun, here's a comparison of the first time I wore the bag 10 years ago and the most recent time I've worn it. I love the broken in slouch of this bag!

Layering Over Maxi Dresses With Cosy Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Small Darren Bag

After a little bit of warm weather, the Ekka winds arrived in Brisbane and it started to get chilly again for the end of winter. I decided to add a few extra layers to my maxi dresses to combat the cold winds.

What I wore:

Kmart floral maxi dress layered with cobalt long sleeve tee turquoise scarf ankle boots Darren bag | awayfromblue

Floral maxi dress with Rebecca Minkoff small darren messenger bag in peony pink | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | layering a kmart floral maxi dress with cobalt tee and turquoise scarf pastel pink rebecca minkoff darren bag ankle boots winter

Scarf: Cotton On turquoise pashmina
Tee: thrifted cobalt blue long sleeve tee
Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

This was a big day for my eldest boy, as we all gathered to watch him compete for the first time. It was nice restrictions were relaxed so they were able to host a big sporting event, his first one after the restrictions had prevented any this year.

Wanted to be bright and colourful as I sat on the sidelines to support him, and so I wore my fave floral maxi dress, this tiered coral one from Kmart. Added the blue long sleeved tee over the top as I thought it looked better than underneath, and as it was still a little chilly I wore my cosy turquoise pashmina. I thought it matched nicely with the print on the dress and I loved how it popped with the blue tee.

The pastel pink Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag was picked as it was big enough for my camera and because I hadn't worn it with this coral dress before. It was a nice combo, I'm pleased I gave it a try!

What I wore:

Knit: white vintage knit jumper from my mum's wardrobe
Dress: Jeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

I didn't like this outfit as much, I felt a little overdressed in this, but also under-dressed for the cold! Unlike the first outfit this was a fairly normal day with the school run and a regular sports class in the evening. By the evening though I was so cold I'd added a coat over this - it was a really chilly day!

Even with the white jumper over this blue printed maxi dress it felt a little too dressed up for such a quiet day, especially as I spent as little time outside in the wind as possible and most of it at home 😂

I did like the colour combo here with the blush pink Darren messenger bag against the blue and white, and I think the white knit broke up the navy printed maxi dress enough that the cobalt Louis Vuitton shawl worked well with it. Just not one of my favourite outfits.

How You Can Wear It:

A maxi dress can work in cooler weather with some extra layers. Try adding a knit or long sleeve tee over the top, and don't forget a big cosy blanket scarf!

Yellow and Turquoise With Neutral Skinny Jeans Outfits

For today's Weekday Wear Link up, two outfits with similar colour schemes of mustard yellow and turquoise, but two very different resulting outfits. One I needed to layer a little more than the other, as winter draws to an end here in Queensland and we get a mix of warmer and cooler days before spring official starts in September.

What I wore:

turquoise and mustard yellow tee skinny jeans and floral duster kimono outfit | away from the blue

Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India turquoise moto bag | away from blue

Jacket: Jeanswest Melanie floral kimono
NecklaceRoie Designs feather, quartz and love charm long necklace
Tee: Big W mustard v-neck tee
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

With the suddenly warmer weather I wanted to get one of my kimonos out again! This duster one is great as it has longer sleeves that I appreciated doing the school drop off in the morning when it was a bit cooler. It was really warm in the afternoon though and I was glad it's not too thick a fabric!

I've worn it with yellow before, but it's the first time I've paired this mustard tee with it and I really liked the combination. The turquoise Balenciaga first bag is something I've accessorised this kimono with before though, such a fun way to wear even more colour to the already colourful print.

These Nobody Denim skinny jeans are a firm favourite as they go with everything and with the comfortable stretch in them they were perfect for a day of working from home with the school run and an afternoon specialists appointment.

What I wore:

mustard cardigan with monochrome grey skinny jeans and tee outfit, converse, skull scarf and Balenciaga first bag | awayfromblue

mustard cardigan with turquoise Balenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India | away from the blue

awayfromblue Instagram mustard cardigan and teal and turquoise skull scarf and Balenciaga first bag

ScarfAlexander McQueen azure wool skull scarf
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

This was a busy day, with an early appointment for my youngest right after school drop off. I had to drive into the city for it and although I know some work places are back it was still busier than I expected on the drive in.

As it was a bit of a chilly morning I took advantage of needing to layer by adding some colourful pieces to an otherwise monochrome outfit. It's the first time I've worn this grey tee and the grey skinny jeans together but they were a great outfit base for the teal and turquoise Alexander McQueen skull scarf and the mustard cardigan. I liked how the turquoise skulls matched the Balenciaga first bag too.

Last wornmustard cardigan, teal skull scarf, grey v neck tee, grey skinny jeans, Converse (above), Balenciaga turquoise first bag (above).

How You Can Wear It:

Yellow and blue look great together, and turquoise and mustard are a nice example of that. With a bold colour combo you can keep the rest of your outfit neutral like I did in the second outfit with the monochrome grey, or add even more colour with a bright printed piece like the kimono in the first outfit.

Blue Knits, Black Jeans, Magenta Edie Bag, and Face Masks

Two very similar outfits with blue knits, black skinny jeans and my magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag. Oh and some face masks too!

Queensland had a bit of a shock in July when some people lied about where they had been when they returned to the state (to avoid mandatory quarantine) and brought the virus with them from an outbreak in another state. It resulted in our first community cases in months. Previously the cases in Queensland had been contained to people returning to the state and doing their mandatory quarantine and not interacting with the public.

Since our suburb was then made a "restricted area" due to the higher than usual chance of catching the virus, one of our big supermarket brands requested that people wear a face mask in store. Not requiring, just requesting. As I already bought a few masks I decided I'd wear them when I shopped. I usually do all my grocery shopping online now, but with the cases rising in Victoria and the fear of more cases locally, not everything has been in stock and so I've had to go to the supermarket more than I'd like.

I took some pics while wearing the masks as although it may be controversial in some places I think there is no harm in putting on an extra piece of pretty fabric for a quick 15 minute shop to pick up essentials, if it makes the staff and other shoppers feel better. It makes me feel like I'm doing my bit too, although hopefully cases continue to stay low here and I won't be needing to wear masks outside the grocery store!

What I wore:

blue mossman knit with black nobody denim skinny jeans converse Rebecca Minkoff edie magenta bag purple scarf | awayfromblue

ribbed blue knit jumper with Rebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | blue knit, black skinny jeans, purple scarf magenta crossbody bag and matching face mask

Sweater: thrifted blue Mossman knit jumper
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

This was a bit of a mixed day! I'd got my online grocery order earlier in the week but it didn't have everything I needed. One of the things missing was a snack I'd planned to take as a "bring a plate" to socially distant drinks later that evening, so I had to go out to the grocery store that morning when I realised I otherwise had nothing to bring! My baking skills aren't quite good enough to inflict them on non family members yet!

Didn't want to get dressed up just for the evening so wore the same thing all day - this great bright blue cropped knit that works so well with these high waisted Nobody Denim skinny jeans. It's not so good with low waisted jeans! Added a little extra interest with the printed Fashion Scarf Girl scarf and my pink and gold statement earrings. The earrings made my first mask wearing a littler trickier than expected but I got there in the end.

I'd wanted to wear the magenta Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag as it is such a fun pop with the blue knit, and I was pleased when I realised that this mask almost matched it!

What I wore:

sass and bide playman printed skinny jeans with cobalt marle knit magenta edie crossbody bag | awayfromblue

Necklace: Colette marble and gold pendant drop long necklace
Top: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

A very similar outfit to the one above with the blue knit and black jean combo, although with a warmer morning I didn't need a scarf as I wore this a week later. I wore this pretty gold and marble pendant necklace instead of a scarf, the pinks and purples went nicely with the Rebecca Minkoff Edie crossbody bag even though the necklace is gold and the hardware on the bag is silver.

As I wasn't wearing a scarf I thought I'd wear these printed skinny jeans to add an extra touch of interest - they are really fun but sometimes can be tricky to wear if I try add other prints with them. They work better, like here, as the statement print in the outfit. I did wish I'd worn a scarf in the afternoon when the wild weather blew in, but it was a much warmer morning than expected.

Stopped by my favourite photo taking spot after the school drop off before yet another Woolies trip, so I wore this pretty floral mask. Thankfully even though things have been out of stock when I've made online orders I've been able to get the things I needed in stores when I visit.

How You Can Wear It:

Black and blue look great together! Try a blue knit with black skinny jeans. For an extra pop of colour, try pink accessories too - they go so well with blue and stand out against black jeans.

Yellow, Aqua and Navy: Dresses and Leather Jackets | Weekday Wear Link Up

Two incredibly similar outfits for today's Weekday Wear Link Up! Printed navy dresses, yellow scarves, leather jackets, leggings and Converse with my Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC bag.

What I wore:

Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl plain crinkle scarf in mustard
DressAtmos&Here navy stripe tee dress with leggings
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a fun Monday! After the school run I headed out to the local opshops with my youngest boy. Since I'd noticed the big one near us had reopened (it was one of the last to reopen after the virus restrictions) I was eager to go check it out, and a cold Monday sounded like the perfect opportunity. It is the best opshop locally for books, they have a huge range and we spent a lot of time picking our favourites to take home. Hubby and I had an appointment later that day and I was hoping some new books would keep the little one entertained for a bit during that! Of course I picked a few interesting looking ones up for myself too, since my neighbour started a virtual book club over Iso I've gotten back into the habit of reading and I'm always looking for new books to read!

I felt this navy striped tee dress with the black printed leather jacket was a bit dark, the mustard scarf and the aquamarine mini MAC bag were the perfect touches of colour with it to lighten it up! It warmed up much more than I expected and I ended up taking the leather jacket off for most of the day after the school drop off in the morning.

ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

Again the same outfit formula with a navy dress, leather jacket, and aqua mini MAC bag and yellow scarf. I loved the colours of this outfit but it felt a little more impractical than the first outfit above. It was a very cold day, so cold that I ended up working from home after the school run with a big fluffy blanket over my legs to keep me warm. I realised when I went to go pick up my son and take him to his appointment in the afternoon that it has just resulted in a very wrinkled dress being covered up all day with a thick blanket! It is a very light dress, just viscose, so it wrinkles a bit more than I'd like sometimes.

I think if I'd have worn this on another day I would have liked it more - it was a fun colour combination, and I really liked all of the pieces together, but it was so cold jeans and a big cosy knit might have been better (and less likely to wrinkle!).

How You Can Wear It:

Yellow and navy go so well together! If you're layering up a navy dress for colder weather with a leather jacket and leggings, why not add a bright yellow scarf for a pop of colour? You can try introduce another bright shade with a handbag too.
