Olive Tops With Neon Pink Mini MAC Bag And Shorts

Olive and pink is a really nice combination - especially when you pair this very fun neon pink mini MAC bag with an olive top. It's a great little pop of colour with an otherwise neutral outfit. And a simple pair of shorts and olive top was all that was needed for these two heatwave filled days.

What I wore:

Top: Target embroidered khaki tank
Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda shorts
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus enamel coated Marc By Marc Jacobs Katie bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC

Why I wore it:

It was good to get these white shorts out for another wear, as I thrifted them near the end of summer last year and they didn't get a lot of wear then. This was a relaxed day with only one appointment to go to after the school run and we spent most of the day at home, so these comfortable shorts paired with a slouchy embroidered tank was a nice idea.

I've worn this neon pink mini MAC bag with the olive embroidered tank before, I really enjoyed the combination then and I liked it again this time too, although less layers were needed! I added the pink enamel bracelet for a little bit of matchy-matchy too!

Last worn: olive embroidered tank, neon pink enamel bracelet, white Bermuda shorts, studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC bag.

Other ways to wearolive embroidered tank and jeans, white Bermuda shorts worn two ways, studded sandals and maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC bag with blue.

Perfect for pregnancystudded sandals in third trimester.

Adding Another Pink Handbag To My Collection!

In case you missed it, I bought this adorable little Rebecca Minkoff bag on sale last month, so now I've added another pink bag to my handbag collection!

What I wore:

black printed shorts and Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | olive and black printed shorts summer outfit with neon pink rebecca minkoff mini MAC bag

NecklaceHouse of Harlow sunburst necklace in silver and grey
Tee: Jeanswest Emma woven trim tee in dark green
Shorts: Jeanswest Parker printed shirred short
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs labradorite bracelets
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC

Why I wore it:

This was a bit of a busy day so I needed another easy and comfortable outfit - shorts and a tee was perfect, and the Converse were great for all of the running around. Had the school run, some errands to run, an appointment, and a very special Christmas gift to track down. End of the night was a takeaway and movie night as I was a bit tired out from trying to do so much!

The olive tee and black printed shorts was a nice neutral combination but even with the bracelet stack (which matches the tee nicely) and the silver statement necklace I felt this was missing something. The hot pink bag was the perfect finishing touch!

How You Can Wear It:

Green and pink is an unexpected combination but one that really works! Olive pairs nicely with blush and pastel pinks, or you can really contrast the pieces by picking a neon pink item instead, like this lovely bag.

Big thank you to Ivana who illustrated some of my recent outfits in her latest blog post! Go check it out!

What I Bought In November

Short and sweet what I bought post! Showing you two things I bought for myself last month - I did take advantage of some of the black Friday and Cyber Monday sales but that was to buy Christmas presents for others. So I wanted to share some things I picked up for myself before all the sales, just two things!

What I Bought:

Why I Bought It:

The shoes were such a lucky find. I have never been able to find shoes in my size at an opshop but I always glance at the shoe rack just in case. I was thrilled to realise these were in my size and just $3! Looking a little worse for wear I figured I could clean them up a bit at home, trying a few different things to get rid of the yellowing the scuff marks and stains on the leather. They certainly don't look new but $3 for a $150 pair of shoes I'm pretty happy with how they scrubbed up!

The bag was an impulse buy - and while I also bought it at the start of November it was on better sale than it ended up being on Black Friday. I'd been eyeing it for a while unsure about the colour it looked on the David Jones site, but once it was further reduced I had so snap it up. As you can see in the video I didn't need to worry about the colour! It's been a firm favourite bag to wear since I bought it.

How I've Worn It:

ways ive worn November purchases rebecca minkoff jean mac crossbody bag

The bag has had the most wear as I've only worn the shoes once so far as it took a while to clean them up. I was pleased with how they were looking so wore them on Monday to check out how comfortable they would be with my knee injury. Pretty happy with them! I know both pieces will get a lot more wear in future too.

I'm not planning to make any fashion related purchases in December but who knows what sales will tempt me 😂 At the moment though I'm on track to be under my 2020 fashion budget and I want to stick there!

Blue Printed Dresses And Blue Bags: Weekday Wear Link Up

More monochrome dress outfits for today's Weekday Wear Link up! Unlike last week's monochrome dress and bag combinations, this week they are two printed dresses and both blue. Easy options with longer sleeves for spring days.

What I wore:

Jeanswest 'Chelsea' printed dress with navy rebecca minkoff regan satchel bag summer outfit | awayfromtheblue

Rebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon with blue boho printed dress and bracelet stack | awayfromtheblue

Earrings: Piper gold heart earrings
Dress: Jeanswest 'Chelsea' printed dress
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus silver and turquoise bracelet stack set and old blue wood bead bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

Decided to wear the Rebecca Minkoff Regan satchel with this blue printed dress as I needed something to hold water bottles and a few snacks for my son as we had a long but fun day of Christmas shopping planned with my sister. I'd picked this dress as although it's light it's got longer sleeves which work nicely to ward off the chill in the shopping centre aircon. It didn't appear that the aircon was working in the shopping centre though - or maybe it was just such a humid day it couldn't cope. Some stores were cool but walking through the main part of the shopping centre it was still quite warm.

It wasn't the most productive or successful day of shopping, but my son and I had fun with my sister anyway despite the issues that continued after the aircon failed and we set another date (and a different shopping centre location!) to get more done. Won't be going back to that shopping centre in a hurry! It was one we used to frequent when we were growing up and it's between both our houses so it's a good almost mid-point meet up but I think we will stick to other ones.

Kept my accessories simple in the heat, my little gold studded earrings and some blue and silver bracelets were all I wore, decided to go without a necklace with the tassels on the dress tied in a bow instead.

What I wore:

DressShein navy flower print flowy dress (c/o)
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Disney Couture Winnie the Pooh bangle
BagRebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag

Why I wore it:

Tried to dress up a little for our annual Santa photo! Of course it looked a little different this year with COVID restrictions, you aren't actually allowed to get within 1.5 meters of Santa. Still took the opportunity to dress up and get a nice family photo for Christmas 2020!

I picked this pretty floral print swing dress to wear as it's a light material, good for a hot day. It was an extremely humid day though and I kind of wished I'd picked something with shorter sleeves - while the long sleeves are a nice relaxed fit it still felt like a bit much with the heat. The curls in my hair didn't quite last the day either 😂 The red and blue in the dress did tie in well with the kid's photo outfits though!

The blue Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC wasn't quite a match with the navy dress, but I felt it was a complimentary shade and the gold hardware worked well with the gold sandals, bauble earrings and bracelets I wore to feel a little more dressed up for the photo.

How You Can Wear It:

It's easy to pick a handbag to wear with a printed dress - just chose one that matches a colour in the print of the dress. You can create a nice monochrome or tonal outfit that way depending on the colours of your dress.

Monochromatic Dress and Bag Combination Outfits: Weekday Wear Linkup!

Making the most of the warm summer-like spring days and wearing simple dress outfits. Making them a little monochromatic by picking handbags in similar shades, but then breaking with it a little as the shoes are black and white!

What I wore:

monochrome outfit with Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey dress in Fuchsia blush pink pastel accessories rebecca minkoff darren bag | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony with fuchsia dress | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey dress in Fuchsia with pastel pink blush bag and jacaranda tree spring

Necklace: blush pink and gold beaded tassel necklace
Dress: Kmart short sleeve tiered jersey dress in Fuchsia
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Edenborough Evans 'Ivy' silver cuff
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

This was a fun day for my youngest boy! He'd been looking forward to a party for weeks and today was the day! I didn't want to dress up too much so I wore this pretty Kmart tiered midi dress with a pair of sneakers to keep it casual. Helpful for all the running around we did the morning of the party too with the school drop off! I wanted to try this pretty pastel Rebecca Minkoff small Darren bag with the fuchsia pink dress, I really liked the combination together of the different shades of pink! And then of course I couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy with this blush tassel necklace. I've worn it together with the bag before, it's a combination I really like.

This dress was so perfect for the hot day too - the party was outdoors so I just sat in the shade away from the still hot afternoon sun as my little one ran around with his friends.

What I wore:

Necklace: layered Tai gold alphabet necklaces
Dress: Jeanswest Rachel Lyocell chambray dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne Ava white leopard ballet flats
Bracelets: the usual plus House of Harlow sunburst wrap bracelet in cobalt
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

This was a really busy day! I'd taken the day off as I had a couple of appointments and things to do that were easier without the kids. After school drop off I headed out to my fave trail, camera in tow to take some pics and have a relaxing start to the day. Even got an outfit pic! Luckily the nature photographer with cameras literally hanging off him didn't see me as I passed him on the trail later with my laughable little camera as he was too busy trying to get a pic of something I couldn't see through the trees. I did get some good pics of some birds and a butterfly myself further along the trail though, although I'm sure he got better ones with one of his giant zoom lenses. 😂

I'd seen this dress pop up on my Insta archives a few days before and knew it was due another wear - was nice and light for a hot morning, even though I was out on the trail early it was pretty warm! Spent the morning running errands and ticking things off my to-do list. With the chambray dress and the navy micro Bedford bag it was looking a bit monochrome, I decided to add the mustard tassel earrings to break it up a little as the blue ones I'd been considering felt like a bit much. This was a really comfortable outfit all day, from a zoom launch in the morning, running errands and even at my little one's appointment later in the evening. I did swap the cute ballet flats for my running shoes before walking along the trail though!

How You Can Wear It:

A nice block colour dress is so easy to accessorise with! You can try a monochromatic look by picking a bag in a similar shade, either lighter than the dress (like in the first outfit) or darker then the dress (like in the second outfit). Such an easy way to wear a colourful bag - see the video above for more ideas!

Two Ways To Wear: Green Jeans and Printed Tanks

These green jeans have been on repeat lately! A lucky opshop find two years ago, they were just $5. I've been so close to 30 wears with them, and thanks to my frequent rewearing this spring I have a 30 wears post coming up next week with them!

Wore them very simply for breezy spring days with printed tanks, sneakers and little Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bags.

What I wore:

animal print tank with green skinny jeans and sneakers, rebecca minkoff mini mac bag spring outfit | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC wih green jeans | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | green skinny jeans and animal print tank with sneakers at lake spring outfit

Necklace: navy and silver circle pendant tassel necklace
Top: Jeanswest 'Rowena' print tank
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

While I've shared outfits with these sneakers before on the blog, this was the first time I wore them out. I wanted to try a sporty kind of look but I don't really have a sporty wardrobe! Decided to go with the printed tank, the green jeans for a bit of colour and my little Rebecca Minkoff silver crossbody bag as it goes with everything!

It was threatening to rain and a pretty overcast morning, and a little windy, but we took a chance after school drop off and went to my fave trail to test out my new shoes properly. Luckily it didn't rain, and we had the whole place to ourselves! Usually even though we don't see other people due to the nature of the trail we see a car or two in the carpark, but not a single other person was there. It was wonderfully relaxing! My shoes held up pretty well too, I'm glad I replaced my old ones with these, although I hope my knee injury continues to heal so I can get back to regular shoes more often and don't need to wear these as much!

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | striped tank with green skinny jeans and mab camera bag working from home school run spring outfit

NecklaceZuriCollections blue polymer clay necklace
Tank: Jeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB Camera Bag in almond

Why I wore it:

Surprisingly, despite wearing stripes with these green skinny jeans a lot, I hadn't worn this striped tank with them before! I was sure I had, but looking back on the blog I can see I haven't! It's a really easy pairing, colourful jeans and a printed tank, just the same as the outfit above, but the different print changes it up a little. Was very comfortable for the school run and working from home on another breezy day.

Picked a neutral bag, this little tan Rebecca Minkoff MAB camera bag that hadn't been worn in a while. And to match the white tank I went with my white converse All Stars. Such a good combination, and one I've worn before, I like the matchy-matchy of the tank and shoes together.

How You Can Wear It:

A printed tank - in any print - is an easy choice with a colourful pair of jeans. It works well for spring and is easy to layer up a little with a cardigan or denim jacket in the cooler weather.

Weekday Wear Link Up: Striped Tops and Printed Maxi Skirts

Two similar outfits for today's Weekday Wear Link up! Enjoying the warmer spring weather and not needing to layer my outfits, I wore simple striped tops with fun printed maxi skirts, and my cute yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.

What I wore:

red boho billabong printed maxi skirt with stripe cotton on tee mustard yellow bag spring outfit | awayfromblue

red printed maxi skirt with Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold | awayfromtheblue

TeeCotton On "The One" fitted v tee in Cole stripe white moonlight
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

Decided to try do something different with this skirt and pair it with stripes - although I later realised when looking through the blog that I've done that before, with a different tee!

I really liked the combination of this striped v-neck tee with the red printed maxi skirt. While the prints are so very different I did go a little matchy-matchy with the mustard Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag to compliment the yellow in the print of the skirt. A simple necklace as I felt the print mix made enough of the statement on it's own, and this necklace goes with everything. Definitely getting good value from the $2 I spent on it at the opshop, this is its tenth wear!

Was a busy day, with the school run, a few errands to run, an appointment and sports in the evening after school pickup. Still found a little time to pop into the opshop for a browse through the Christmas stock though, and took the opportunity to get another pic in front of the pretty jacaranda lined street, even if most of the flowers are gone, especially after the storms.

Last worn: striped tee, heart charm necklace, Billabong red maxi skirt, studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.

Other ways to wearstriped tee worn two ways, Billabong red maxi skirt in winter, studded sandals and little black dressRebecca Minkoff Micro Regan worn 30 ways.

Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan Review

In Case You Missed It:

I only do one gift guide each year, and this is it!

What I wore:

printed floral maxi skirt with striped tank and yellow rebecca minkoff micro regan bag | away from blue

Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold mustard with blue floral print maxi skirt | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | striped tank with floral maxi skirt and mustard bag for spring print mix

Tank:  Jeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

I thought I'd try some stripes with this floral skirt for the first time! I really liked the combination, and it was nice and cool for a hot day. However it was a little bit of an outfit fail. While perfect for the school run and an appointment I had, once again I got attacked by the mozzies!

I had remembered to liberally apply bug spray this time, so we were ready for a walk around the water along our fave trail. However, this tank has some cute cut-out detail on the back. I did not think of that when spraying the mozzie repellant...so all my arms and legs and chest were covered, as was my son, but I didn't spray my back. Of course when we stopped for photos and sat down for a bit I realised my mistake as they latched on to the only spot I wasn't protected. Hubby was shocked at the state of my back when we got home 😂

Because it was a hot day I thought a simple skirt and tank combination was a good way to go - the side slits in this maxi skirt kept me cool even in the heat of the day. Just basic accessories too, my For King and Country coin necklace as I didn't want to wear anything too heavy or statement making, and then the little yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag for a pop of colour.

How You Can Wear It:

Stripes are fun to print mix with! Stripes and florals are always a good pairing but you can try stripes with any other print too. If you're unsure keep the rest of the accessories simple and let the clashing prints be the statement in your outfit.

Handbag Lover's Gift Guide For 2020!

It's that time of year again, where blogs turn into gift guides! Each year I publish this one gift guide: the perfect gift guide for a handbag lover, no matter your budget! This year, because it's 2020, I've added a little bit at the end for ways you can support some local Aussie businesses too. I try to pick pieces that will ship internationally, but I'm sure you will understand that the local section may only ship within Australia.

So, if you're looking for the perfect gift for a bag loving friend or relative, or just a little bit of bag-candy, this is the gift guide for you!

Spectacular Splurge-Worthy Spoils

These bags are $500+ and above - not the kind of thing you would give to a casual acquaintance, but certainly something special for someone close. Wives, girlfriends, mums, sisters - if you have the cash to splash you can't go wrong with something from this list! Sticking with classic styles and neutral colours is always a good idea, especially if you're not entirely sure what their preferred colour bag would be. Probably something to be 100% sure that you know they are after before investing so heavily in this section though!

Modest Mid-Range Designer Choices

At $100-$250 you can look at bags from their favourite contemporary designers, or maybe even a SLG (small leather good) from a luxury brand. There are so many options at this price point to choose from, this budget doesn't limit you but lets you get creative with how you want to spend. Think wallets, clutches, card holders, wallet on chain bags, wristlets... You can give them an accessory from a brand of their dreams or their perfect bag from their favourite contemporary designer. Mine being Rebecca Minkoff of course!

Bargain Bag Finds

Got less than $100 to spend? No worries! Think of ways they can accessorise bags they already have - keychains and bag charms are a good way to go, or a skinny silk scarf to tie in a bow on a bag or wrap around bag handles. See my video for more ways to accessorise a bag! What about a little pouch or wristlet they can use to keep things safe in their bag? Or a gift card to help them purchase the bag of their dreams they have been saving for? You can even hit up sites like ASOS for high street versions of designer styles, without the high price tags.

No matter the budget you have set aside, remember that the Thanksgiving Black Friday sales in the US will be starting soon, and other countries are starting to follow with similar sales. That bag that may have been out of your budget before might be a much more attractive price now or in the days to come, so get adding to cart in preparation for the sales!

Shopbop have up to 50% off designer bags, and you can get an extra 30% off at Rebecca Minkoff with code 'TAKE30' on orders over $150.

A Little Something For Yourself?

All that shopping for other people can lead to a little splurge or two on yourself! The categories above are good for gifts as you get the "new bag" experience with all the wrapping and boxes and that new bag smell! But if you're looking for a bag for you, why not try the preloved market? Easier on the wallet and the environment! Sites like Fashionphile, Yoogi's Closet, Bag Mad Boutique, Vestiaire Collective make it easy to snap up an authenticated designer bag at a bargain price - just be sure to review all the pictures and description carefully so you know what to expect with the condition. eBay is an option too, but I highly suggest using an authentication service like Authenticate First before buying anything designer from eBay.

Shop Local

There are so many local businesses who would really appreciate your support this Christmas. In the sprit of shopping small and supporting local that's so needed for  2020, I wanted to share some. While they are certainly not all bag based they have a lot of great gift ideas to surprise, spoil or entertain your loved ones this Christmas.

For The Little Ones:

For The Grown Ups:

  • Yondale Designs - beautiful silver jewellery that will be treasured for years to come (I have two cuffs I adore from this company that I never remove from my wrist)
  • Handbags on Etsy - you can filter for the perfect gift from your country, state or city!
  • Katherine By Katherine - vegan friendly handbags and accessories, made in Brisbane!
  • Fashion Scarf Girl - another Queensland mum, with multi-buy scarf discounts! (I have been a brand rep for this company in the past and I have also bought a lot of her scarves with my own money!)

Have fun shopping and finding that something special to bring yourself or someone you love a little bit of joy this year!

Navy and Green Kimono Outfits With Grey Tees And Micro Bedford Bag

Another Wednesday post! I'm still not back to my regular 3 times a week posting I was pre-pandemic as I just don't get out of loungewear that many times a week yet! But I wanted to share two outfit posts this week, and on Friday I'll have my special annual gift guide post.

Two outfits with similar colour schemes and outfit formulas, but both look very different despite featuring navy kimonos, grey tees, green and the same little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag.

What I wore:

Necklace: thrifted Equip gold and marble station necklace
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Jeans: thrifted ASOS petite green skinny jeans
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

Simple jeans and tee outfit for a busy day with the school run, working from home, and an appointment for my son in the afternoon. The grey tee and the green jeans are a combination I've worn a few times in the past, but I couldn't resist changing it up a little bit this time with the navy tie dye kimono on top. I thought it went nicely with the green jeans and it was a fun bit of match-matchy with the navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag, and the navy Havaianas.

I really liked this outfit - nice and comfortable and practical for working from home and rushing around between school pickup and the afternoon appointment. I was glad I'd picked jeans to wear as the wind really picked up in the afternoon and it was actually a bit chilly on our way home from the appointment!

What I wore:

Tee: thrifted Cotton on grey tunic tee
Shorts: Jeanswest Tessa olive embroidered shorts
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

I really liked the colours in this outfit! Just like the first outfit, it was a grey tee with green and a navy kimono, and that little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag. This time around though it was olive shorts instead of jeans, as the weather had warmed up a lot. The navy floral print kimono adds even more colour too, as does the green beaded necklace.

I thought that this grey tunic would go nicely with the pull on olive shorts - while they are both very relaxed fits I like the casualness of the outfit with the two loose pieces together, and I felt the long line of the kimono pulled it together a bit more to stop it looking too messy. Again I really liked this outfit! After the school drop off in the morning we went for a walk along our fave trail. Walking around the water was not the smartest idea after the storms that weekend though, especially when I forgot to put on mozzie repellent! I was bitten so much, ended up walking around a lot quicker than normal trying to stop my legs getting bitten 😂

Our grocery order was due to arrive the next day but I'd run out of some things for lunchboxes and it wouldn't arrive early enough in the morning, so had to go for a quick grocery shop after. Was nice to cool off my multiple bug bites in the air conditioning! And I took the opportunity to have a little browse of the shopping centre for some more Christmas gifts as well. I've purchased most of my Christmas gifts (I want to be really organised this year with all the online orders slowing down the postal service a little) but there's always a few extra things to buy!

How You Can Wear It:

Blue and green is a colour combo that should definitely be seen! It's easy to pair any shade of green with navy, as you can see here with the forest green and the olive working well against the navy kimonos.
