Printed Maxi Dresses and Purple Mini MAB Tote Bag

You will know from even a small amount of time reading my blog that I love my outfit formulas! I like to take an outfit I enjoyed and wear something similar again later, just changing a thing or two. In these outfits I'm wearing two printed maxi dresses and accessorising with my fun purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag. By changing the other accessories and adding another layer, the outfits look quite different and disguise my lazy outfit formula repetition 😉

Why I wore it:

Wore this for baby boy's third birthday party last month. It's crazy thinking my baby boy is 3 years old! It doesn't seem like that long ago I was pregnant with him! The years really go by so quickly.

We had a fun party at home with all his favourite people around - as I'd done all of the party prep the day before I didn't bother wearing shoes, no need to go outside! I did add the purple mini MAB tote bag, because I liked how well it worked with the print on the dress and I needed a place to put my phone and camera when I wasn't using them to record various parts of the party.

Kid's birthday party meant kid friendly necklace, so I pulled this Nibbly Bits one out again, a firm favourite while I was breastfeeding. I was hoping it might distract from the statement earrings but they were tugged on by little hands a few times before I diverted attention with the necklace!

Why I wore it:

Another maxi dress and purple mini MAB outfit! A different colour scheme this time, still with the pink and purple but I added some blue too with the printed maxi dress and denim jacket. I needed the denim jacket for a cooler morning. The blush necklace goes so nicely with purple and blue, was the perfect accessory.

Wore this to go watch the Church Online service at my friends house. It was good to catch up, with life getting in the way and the boys having the sniffles we hadn't seen her for a few weeks! It was the first time showing off my new hair cut to everyone too.

The day ended up warming up quite a lot and I'd gotten rid of the jacket when I ran a couple of quick errands before lunch.

Striped Tee Dresses & Bright Bags For A Pop of Colour

Sharing two simple striped tee dresses, and the last long hair outfit photo! I donated my hair back at the end of March, I've just been so behind with photos. Since I wait until I have some outfits that make sense to post together, these outfits were worn a little while apart, one with long hair and one outfit with short hair!

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Simple tee dress for a busy day. Every time I wear this dress I'm so glad my sister didn't want it any more! I like wearing it with purple, I've done that before. It's a nice touch of colour with the black. Decided to add in some pink accessories too, I think these Balenciaga studded sandals and the rose gold necklace pair nicely with the purple mini MAB tote bag, even though they are both different shades of pink.

Took the boys out to our favourite playground in the morning, then had a couple of errands to run before sneakily managing to buy a birthday present without the birthday boy noticing!

Why I wore it:

A little bit more autumn-like with this outfit! I added some leggings to combat the cool morning and also as I worried this dress might be a little too short for a trip to the playground and rhyme time at the local library with the boys.

It was also my first attempt to curl my shorter hair. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but it could have been a lot better! I think I will wait until it grows a bit more before I try again. As a graduated bob, the back is just too short to hold a proper curl.

Unhappiness with my hair aside, I did like this outfit - the leggings were a good choice for in the library sitting down on the ground with the boys. I think the Balenciaga day bag is such a fun pop of colour with the black and white stripes too.

What I Wore To Donate My Hair! Foil Tees and Maxi Skirts

In case you missed it, I donated my hair! You can see how far behind I am with blogging pics as I posted the video of the big chop at the end of March, and it's mid-April and Easter this weekend! Why I wore it:

I wore this a few days before I donated my hair. I had the day off to sit that big exam I've mentioned a couple of times. My day was full of studying before logging on to do the test remotely in the afternoon. It was something I needed to be fully dressed for as obviously you are monitored when taking the exam. I had to give the person who was monitoring me for the exam a webcam tour of the entire room and the table I had my computer on, twisting and turning my laptop around. It would have been funnier if I wasn't so stressed about the exam, haha! Especially when I was told my flowers and candle were not allowed on the desk, nothing but my computer and mouse.

Luckily, I passed the exam and have a new work certification to my name! Since most of the day I was home by myself I felt brave enough to wear a white tee without worrying about getting it dirty, this foil one deserves a bit more love as it was a while since it was last worn.

I added the purple mini MAB tote bag for a touch of colour with the black and white and because I didn't need much to do the daycare pick up and drop off.

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the foil tee and maxi skirt combo above, despite the stressful day, I decided to wear a similar outfit again when I went to donate my hair. With some colourful accessories again, including a big statement necklace.

My bestie had grown her hair for two years and donated it, so I decided to do the same! And it's funny, it was about 2 years ago I shared that's what I was going to do!

You can see more in the video - including my reactions to the first cut - but we managed to donate 38cm of hair to Variety to be made into wigs for kids with cancer. Big thanks to Steph at Snippitz hairdresser at Marsden Park for doing the big cut and styling my very short locks afterwards! A special thank you to one of Steph's loyal customers who surprised me and paid for my haircut as their donation to the cause too.

Peplum Tanks, Kimonos and Denim Shorts: Summer Mum Style

I've been wearing peplum tanks with pencil skirts frequently recently, so I thought it was time to try something different and pair them with some denim shorts. Like scarves in winter, kimonos are a fun topper to an outfit to add a little extra colour and interest.

Why I wore it:

After getting badly sunburned a couple days before, I needed a light outfit that provided sun protection for a quick trip out with the boys to run essential errands and pickup some groceries. This black peplum tank is so soft and just what my sore shoulders needed. It's a shame that the peplum hem of this tank doesn't show up well in the photos as I thought it looked really cute! I was grateful for the kimono adding a little extra colour and print to the outfit as it also offered some good sun protection for my tender shoulders.

I've recently worn this purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag with the blue printed kimono before - since I liked the combination I thought I'd wear it again, just swapping the white tee for this black tank and a different necklace. I also appreciated the thin cross body strap on the bag being easy to wear without aggravating my sunburned neck and shoulders!

Simple, fuss-free outfit for a hot day.

Despite not having sunburn to contend with when I wore this, it's a very similar outfit to the one above. Longer shorts and longer tank, but still just denim shorts, peplum tank and a fun blue printed kimono with a colourful pink Rebecca Minkoff bag this time.

I picked up this peplum tank in the Kmart clearance sale and wanted to wear it another way to meet my 'wear twice in the month I buy it' goal for all my new purchases. Since I wore it with a pencil skirt last time, I wore it more casually this time with the bermuda denim shorts. The pink beaded necklace and mini MAC bag were fun accessories to pop against the blue printed kimono too.

Had quite a busy day. A relaxed morning browsing the opshop after dropping off another couple of bags of donations, and of course picking up a couple of things for myself too! Then had an appointment for the boys in the afternoon. With the heat and humidity, I liked this light kimono addition to my outfit as it kept me sun-safe and didn't add to the heat.

A peplum tank is a nice twist on a basic tank - just as easy to wear, but with a little ruffled hem to add a point of difference to your outfit. If the outfit still seems a little plain, why not add a kimono for colour and interest in summer, or a scarf in cooler weather. A brightly coloured bag is another fun accessory that works year-round!

Shorts, Tees and Printed Kimonos With Purple Mini MAB Tote Bag

Two outfits following the same outfit formula but with different colour schemes! The first outfit is pink and purple and the second is purple again, but with blue instead. These simple shorts, tee and kimono outfits are a summer staple for me and perfect for mum life.

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit. I like grey and pink together but this outfit felt it was lacking something until I added the kimono - the perfect touch! With the purple floral kimono, a purple mini MAB tote bag was the obvious choice to accessorise with.

It was a busy day! We went to a local opshop I'd heard good things about but never visited. It's a little out of the way, but with clothes just $1 each was definitely worth checking out! As usual, I left with more things for the boys than me, but it was still a good trip and we will have to try go more regularly. I still haven't found the perfect alternative to my favourite opshop after it closed.

Of course after spending time doing something for me in the morning, we had to go do something for the boys later. We visited a travelling petting zoo at a shopping centre, and it was so much fun. We all had a great time. I did regret my shoe choice as these studded Balenciaga sandals are maybe a little too delicate for straw and animals everywhere, and when I got a cup of animal feed spilled over me and into the cuffs of my shorts I regretted them a little too! But it was so much fun overall I didn't dwell on it for long!

This day was not as exciting as the one above! Took the boys out to the library, the playground and then picked up some groceries on the way home. I really liked the outfit formula above though, so much that I repeated it again here, just changing the colour scheme a little. Blue and purple is another of those combinations that I love, so I kept the purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag and switched the purple kimono out for this pretty blue one and the grey tee for a white one. Blue denim shorts and just simple Havaianas made this a great outfit that follows the outfit formula above but created its own unique outfit I loved just as much.

It's taken me a few years to face my fears and buy a white tee, but I'm glad I did, I really like this one from Atmos&Here and it works so nicely with blue!

Accessorising Handbags & Blue Printed Dresses

It's no secret blue is my favourite colour, and while I have a few dresses in my wardrobe, blue printed dresses make up the majority! Both of these dresses are very different styles and prints, but are great for a hot summer day. I accessorised them both with bright mini bags, and accessorised further by adding accessories to those bags themselves.

Why I wore it:

I wasn't doing anything special on this day - a quiet day out with the boys, but sometimes you just want to throw on a pretty dress. This lightweight one is so good in the heat too, and since I picked it up on clearance at Kmart for $2, it's down to a $1 cost per wear already!

Last time I wore this I paired it with a pastel pink bag to match the print of the dress. This time around I decided to do something a little different. I love blue and pink and pink and purple and blue and purple together, this dress gives me the ability to wear all three! Since I was wearing the purple mini MAB tote bag and it has gold hardware, I picked my rose gold filigree heart necklace to wear.

I really liked this outfit - simple but perfect for a hot day! The purple mini MAB tote bag has a little extra interest too with the faux fur pom pom charm - a gift a few years ago from one of my friends, it looks so good on this bag it lives there permanently!

Why I wore it:

This dress is a summer favourite, although I have layered it up for winter a few times in the years I've owned it. I wanted something simple to wear at a catch up at my parents. Since they were missing Christmas as they were going overseas, we caught up with the family to give them a few gifts before they left, and have a yummy dinner together.

I don't think I've worn red with this dress before, but I really liked the way this little Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery bag popped with the blue print. I had to go a little matchy-matchy and wear my red necklace with it too, even though it's guaranteed one or both of the boys will grab on this when I'm wearing it to get a closer look!

To further continue to the blue, and to change up the look of the micro Avery bag a little as I've been frequently wearing it, I added one of my scarves from Fashion Scarf Girl. Such a fun little hair scarf, it looks great tied in a bow on this handbag handle!

This bag was on sale for $146.25, although I don't recall if it was AUD or USD and the receipt doesn't tell me. Given that it's been worn over 50 times since then, it's getting good cost per wear! $2.71 per wear so far, and that will go down the longer I use the bag. It still looks new! It has a lot more wears to go to get the magic '$1 per wear' people aim for, but I know I will hit that with it eventually. I'm pleased with the cost per wear so far.

I will always love a big of matchy-matchy! Even if the shades are slightly different, I think this purple bag looks great worn with other purple pieces in an outfit to tie it all together. You could have a little touch of purple through a tee or tank, or a bolder mix with purple jeans or a purple cardigan - and matching purple accessories! If you love a colour it makes sense to wear a lot of it in one outfit!

If you are trying to make the most of your wardrobe year round like I am, you'll find that bags can be worn in any season! This plum purple bag was purchased in the Australian spring of 2015, which means it was an American autumn / winter bag. I've found the colour so easy to wear year round! From simple summer shorts outfits to these layered winter ones, it really works in any season! One thing to note though is that the bag doesn't completely seal up,  o maybe not a good idea on a snowy or wet day!

And it proves a very important point I bring up when buying bags - they are always going to fit and look good no matter what!
