Printed Tanks and Pencil Skirts For The Office With Rebecca Minkoff MAM Bag

I think the one item of clothing I have most of in my wardrobe is printed tanks! They work so well for my casual stay at home mum days, but also in the office too with a blazer on top. The two I'm wearing below are some of my favourites, gifts from my mum. Keeping things simple and letting the printed tanks be the stars of my outfits, I picked neutrals for everything else, including this grey Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

As much as I loved this outfit, it was my hair that got a lot of love on Instagram 😅 It's day 3 of the curls from when I curled my hair for our annual Christmas family photo. This is the hair curler I use.

I felt with the relaxed hair and long tassel necklace, the grey blazer was the perfect way to dress this outfit up a bit more for a busy day with a few big meetings. I had a bit of a giggle when I went to write this post and realised everything is from Jeanswest, except the shoes and bag! The jersey blazer and pencil skirt were comfortable and perfect for the cooler office, despite the warmer day outside.

With the pastel pink, red and blue in the print of the tank and the turquoise tassel on the necklace, I thought this grey Rebecca Minkoff MAB bag was the perfect neutral accessory to wear with it. And it felt like a while since I last wore the bag, it was definitely overdue a wear!

Why I wore it:

This tank always makes me smile when I wear it. Red is a cheerful colour to wear,  and I also like this as I've had it for a few years and wore it through my pregnancies with my boys. It's nice being able to enjoy a piece in your wardrobe you've had for years.

I've worn this top casually with jeans and a few times to the office with pencil skirts. Like the printed tank above, I think it looks lovely tucked into a classic black pencil skirt. I picked a simpler silver heart pendant necklace to wear with this, and silver ballet flats to match the necklace and hardware on the MAM bag. I did have a cover up for in the office too, but it was much too hot and humid in the morning to want to take a pic with it on. I shared a pic with my cosy cardi on Twitter.

Of course I couldn't stop at just the shoes, bag and necklace matching, I had to add a red hair tie to my hair to tie in with the print on the tank! I bought a huge bunch of colourful hair ties in a Priceline sale a while back and every now and then I'll be able to match the hair tie to my outfit!

Printed Tanks Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A printed tank can easily work for a business casual office. It's a fun way to add a little colour to a neutral suit or suit separates. If you need to dress a little more formally, you can cover up the casual tank with a blazer to make it look more office appropriate. The blazer has the added bonus of keeping you warm in the cold air con too!

Black Dresses For The Office With Pink Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Darren Messenger Bag

You can add scarves to warm weather outfits by thinking a little differently about how you wear them. While these two scarves are very different, they are both pretty shades of pink and work so nicely with these little black dresses for the office. I continued the pink theme with my peony Rebecca Minkoff Darren messenger bag.

What I wore:

Hermes twilly scarf worn in hair as headband hairbow with black lace dress and pastel pink bag | awayfromblue

black lace dress, silver bracelet stack and Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony | awayfromtheblue

NecklaceHouse of Harlow 5 station necklace in black and silver
DressJeanswest 'Gisele' contrast lace dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

It was Melbourne Cup day so once again I broke out my Hermes twilly to tie around my hair like a headband. I did the same thing last year! This year we weren't having a big lunch like we usually do, just a few snacks to watch the race. I was stuck working on an urgent issue and missed the race and the snacks.

I wanted to feel a little more dressed up than usual for the occasion - you see so many people wearing the prettiest dresses around the office and in Brisbane on race day. This little black lace dress which sometimes seems too dressy for work was the perfect piece to wear. I really liked the way the peony pink Darren bag worked with the lace on the dress too. Was good to give this dress another wear, it's one of the little worn pieces in my wardrobe, last worn a year ago!

BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

Unlike the lace dress above, this classic fit and flare dress is frequently worn to the office. It's the perfect style and length and always looks good! Sometimes I like to wear a belt with it. I decided to try something a little different with my leaf print scarf and tied it as a belt around my waist. I folded the scarf over a few times, wrapped it around, and then tucked the ends back into the scarf at the back. As the dress is a thick ribbed ponte fabric, it held in place perfectly through the day.

While I think the scarf and the small Darren bag added a great touch of colour with the dress, I couldn't resist adding just a little more with this statement necklace. The colours really popped against the black, and I was feeling very confident and happy with my outfit when I stepped out of the house. Only to quickly realise on my way to work that a braided hairstyle and this crystal necklace don't work so well together. The necklace kept getting caught rather painfully in my braid through the day! Will definitely be wearing this necklace and dress together again in future, but maybe not with my hair tied so close to it 😂

Black Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A little black dress is a frequently recommended style staple. It is a classic piece to have for work. It's easy to change it up a little each time you wear it with different accessories, and to add a touch of colour. You can stick with a colourful bag like I have here, or try something a little different and add a scarf as well. You can drape a scarf over your neck or try an alternative way to wear it, like as a headband or wrapped around your waist like a belt.

Mulberry Bayswater and Wrap Dresses For the Office

I still think a printed dress is the easiest, simplest outfit for work. Add some neutral accessories like this classic Mulberry bayswater bag and some ballet flats and you have easy spring office style. No further accessorising required, although you can always add a bright necklace on top like I did with these outfits to feel like you put a little effort in!

What I wore:

black and white tulip hem wrap dress for the office with Mulberry Bayswater bag | away from blue

black and white wrap dress with Mulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue instagram black and white wrap dress, green necklace and mulberry bayswater bag

Why I wore it:

I'm not entirely sure the length of this necklace worked with the wrap neckline of the dress and the tie over the waist, but I did like the little touch of colour it added to this outfit! With the black and white printed wrap dress and neutral tan Mulberry Bayswater and Marc Jacobs flats, a little bit of green through the necklace was a nice way to add a pop of colour.

I did consider wearing statement earrings with this outfit too, but felt it was busy enough. It was my first day back at work after a week off sick, and there was so much to catch up on. The simple yet comfortable dress worked well, for meetings and for sitting at my desk reading all the emails I missed!

classic heritage Mulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue instagram spring office style target petite printed wrap dress with Mulberry bayswater bag
Dress: Target Dannii Minogue Petites printed wrap dress

Why I wore it:

Sometimes I find this dress a little tricky to wear. It 'reads' as blue from a distance, but up close you can see the pink, red, black, green and blue in the geometric print. I decided to try mix things up a bit and wear this bold yellow statement necklace with it. I really liked the combination, and I felt it distracted from how tired I felt and looked. I did manage to get a lovely compliment from a colleague who said I looked just like his niece - and she's 20, so I was very happy with that! I think it was maybe the ponytail, or all the makeup I threw on to try look a bit more perky.

Unfortunately despite feeling much better and just a little tired, my voice sounded terrible! I'd started to loose it the day before when working from home as everyone ended up calling me, and by mid-afternoon it was almost entirely gone. I soldiered through the day though, lots of charades and having others speaking for me and managed to wrap up everything from my to-do list before I left, so I felt productive! Even if I did have to postpone one meeting as the person I was meeting with thought it was too much to try make me talk for 30 mins! 😂 They were probably right!

Wrap Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A wrap dress is a classic wardrobe staple that can work for many different occasions. Mine get worn mostly to the office though! They are a fail-safe outfit option that work for a business casual office like mine as well as a more formal business attire dress code. If you're wearing a sleeveless version like I am in the last outfit, a blazer or cardigan is a good option to keep shoulders covered for formal meetings.

Printed Tops, Black Pencil Skirts and Balenciaga Day Bags

With the warmer spring weather, I had some lovely spring weather outfits planned to wear my new shoes. Unfortunately we were in for a wet week, and I didn't want to ruin my new shoes in the rain. So I went back to basics for workwear, with black pencil skirts and printed tops.

What I wore:

Balenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta with black dog print top matching skull scarf | awayfromtheblue
Earrings: Ana Luisa 'Olivia' tassel earrings in pink (giveaway prize)

Top: Target ruffle sleeve dog print blouse
SkirtJeanswest black ponte pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta

Why I wore it:

You know I love a bit of matchy-matchy! This magenta Alexander McQueen skull scarf and Balenciaga day bag are frequently worn together. With the purple outlines on the dashounds on my top, it felt like a great matchy-matchy outfit for the office. Kept the rest of my outfit simple with the black pencil skirt and the black ballet flats.

Did end up regretting this outfit in the afternoon though! Around lunch time the rains arrived and I was very cold and wet by the time I got home after work that evening. Probably should have picked tights or a cosier jacket (I just had a blazer in case any meetings came up).

Despite the less than perfect weather conditions, I did like this outfit. I even had a rare opportunity before the rain started to pop out for lunch and have a browse at the Jeanswest store in the city.

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats

Why I wore it:

I didn't like this outfit as much as the one above. It was something I'd picked as a second choice because of the forecast rain which meant it was already off to a bad start! I wasn't sure about this boucle blazer and the polka dot print tank, but in the mirror that morning it looked good enough for me to pick the boucle jacket over a plain black blazer. When I reviewed the photos later though I regretted my decision - a plain jacket would have looked better over this.

Bad jacket choice aside, it was an otherwise okay outfit. The Balenciaga day bag doesn't look as nice with it as I thought as the shades of blue are so different, but it's definitely not the worst thing about this outfit! I really don't know why this top is worn so little, I get compliments when I wear it and it is always so fun to wear.

Black Pencil Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A black pencil skirt is a corporate office wardrobe essential! It's so easy to throw on a printed top with a plain black pencil skirt and feel ready for work. As you can see from my lessons above though, it pays to put a little more thought into the weather for the day and your accessories when picking such a straightforward outfit!

Colourful Pants In the Office: Spring Casual Workwear Outfits

One benefit of a business casual dress code at work is having a lot more leeway in what I wear. With a busy couple of days planned, without many meetings away from my desk, I took the opportunity to wear some outfits that I know would be too casual for most corporate offices. Simple blouses and colourful pants (with a blazer nearby in case any important meetings came up).

What I wore:

mustard scarf with black blouse and olie jeans balenciaga day bag | away from the blue

Balenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag | away from the blue

ScarfJeanswest Lucille golden yellow scarf (new purchase)
TopJeanswest 'Tilda' black shirt
PantsJeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green (new purchase)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

Wearing some of my recent purchases from Jeanswest! Yes, these olive pants are now my third pair of green pants! After thrifting a couple of pairs a few weeks ago, I probably didn't need a third pair, but couldn't resist snapping these up on sale. The scarf was the original piece I went in to buy, but with an extra 40% off sale items I browsed the sale rack too.

It's not the first time I've worn mustard and green together, I really like the combination and I got so many compliments on my scarf when I wore this. The only downside to it is that the scarf was brand new and shed a little bit - a black blouse that attracts fluff was probably not the best choice. It did make for a great backdrop for the scarf to pop against though!

With the green and mustard together, the black blouse and tan accessories seemed like good neutrals. I really liked this outfit, and I was happy that the olive jeans passed as plain cotton pants for the office.

Last worn: black blouse, Marc Jacobs flats, Balenciaga day bag. First time I've worn the scarf and olive jeans as they are recent purchases.

Why I wore it:

The credit for this outfit goes to all the American bloggers posting about fall! It's a very autumnal coloured outfit for spring, with the navy studded blouse and burgundy pants. I added the leopard print scarf as leopard print has been everywhere on blogs lately. I really liked all these pieces together!

Navy and burgundy is a colour combination I've frequently worn with these pants. With the gold statement earrings too, I just had to wear my gold mouse flats for a little matchy matchy. I was in a bit of a rush this morning to get photos and get to work on time so as you can see I didn't notice I hadn't put the mirror back in the bag before snapping some pics. I still loved the neutral brown bag with the navy and burgundy though, even if it shows how much of a rush I was in that morning by being a little untidy.

Colourful pants are a fun touch to a casual office outfit, or just for everyday wear. A plain, block colour blouse is a great topper with colourful pants. You can stick to a neutral shade so you don't have to worry about things matching. You can add more colour or interest to your outfit with a bright or printed scarf too.

Printed Dresses For The Office With Colourful Scarves and Balenciaga Bags

When I'm feeling uninspired picking workwear I make things easy on myself and pull on a printed dress! While both of these dresses are different styles and prints, they solved my 'no idea what to wear' dilema by becoming instant, easy outfits. I added some bright scarves and Balenciaga bags and I was ready for the office!

What I wore:

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
DressLeona Edmiston Jemima fern print dress
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagBalenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag

Why I wore it:

I really liked the colours in this outfit, with pink blue and purple together. Not the first time I've worn that combination to the office. The pink statement earrings were won in a giveaway and I thought they worked perfectly with the pink fern print on the dress. Despite the earrings being gold and the hardware on the bag being silver, I think because they are far enough apart from each other the combination still works.

Originally when I'd put this together I had planned to wear my purple scarf, to match my purple bag. A text from my colleague the evening before reminding me we needed to wear blue that day made me pick this Louis Vuitton shawl instead. I adore this scarf so much, it's so cosy! As it's always cold in the office, I kept it on all day and matched the rest of the team wearing blue perfectly.

The ankle boots were a necessity with the cooler morning. Despite thinking the week before it was time to retire my tights, I was happy to have them this morning with the overcast and cooler day with lots of rain forecast.

Why I wore it:

A completely different look even though this follows the same outfit formula as the one above. I even wore the same blazer. I can't believe it's taken me this long to wear the orange crinkle scarf with this printed orange sheath dress, it's the perfect matchy-matchy layer!

With all of the colour in my scarf and outfit, I decided to go with neutral accessories this time, letting the scarf and dress be the touch of colour against all of the black. I really liked this outfit. You might recall me saying a few times I'm wary of wearing black with the orange dress as it reminds me of Halloween but I think it worked really well. When I was popping out to get lunch one of the sales people standing on the street complimented my outfit as I ran past shaking my head. Was nice of them to do that, but I was too busy to stop to see what they were selling!
