Denim Shorts, Printed Kimonos And V-Neck Tees With Micro Bedford Bag

I have a pretty basic casual stay at home isolation style, but when I do leave the house I'm taking the opportunity to wear one of my beloved handbags and kimonos. Even if I feel a little over dressed!

What I wore:

Shorts: thrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts

Why I wore it:

Wore this to visit the doctors, before they had moved to telehealth appointments. I've been at this doctor's surgery for over a decade, so it was nice being able to talk to a trusted medical professional about everything that's happening and the best ways to keep the kids safe. It was a strange experience with waiting in our car before being called in to go through to the doctor - the waiting room has been striped back to just a handful of chairs for social distancing!

Wanted to be bright and colourful so tried this pastel yellow tee with the navy floral kimono. I really liked the combination, even if I did really feel like a necklace would have been the final finishing touch! (I've mentioned before due to how often the kids and I play with my necklaces I don't feel safe wearing them outside the house, trying to minimise how many times I touch things and reduce the risk of transferring germs).

I did accessorise with the Rebecca Minkoff micro Beford bag - it's so cute in navy and goes with everything, which is helpful as it's one of the two "outdoors" bags I have, again to try minimise the germs!

Last worn: floral kimono, yellow tee, distressed denim shorts, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag.

Perfect for pregnancyfloral kimono at 39 weeks.

Why I wore it:

I felt that the kids needed to get out the house so we took Cooper on a short walk around the neighbourhood. Since hubby has been working from home as well, whenever I have needed to go out for groceries they have stayed home with him, and the schools are closed so there are no other outings and they needed to get out. It was good to see something outside our fence, and while we did see people out as well we kept a safe distance, with social distancing in place.

I felt a little overdressed for walking the dog, especially with the matchy-matchy purple tee and purple printed kimono, but when we saw a few neighbours outside too I was glad I'd changed out of my loungewear!

I only needed my phone and keys but brought this little Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag along anyway as it was a good excuse to give it another wear. Cooper being chased by the kids all day every day now means he doesn't need as many walks as usual, and my knee injury means I can't walk very far anyway, but it was still good to get outside the house.

Last worn: purple kimono, lilac tee, black denim shorts, New Balance (above), Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford (above).

Other ways to wearpurple kimono and maxi dress, lilac tee and stripe skirt, black denim shorts and scarf, Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford worn two ways.

Perfect for pregnancylilac tee in second trimester.

Printed Kimonos Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A printed kimono is a fun finishing layer with a staple shorts and tee outfit. It's a great way to add more colour and print. You can try contrasting colours like I have in the first outfit, or be a little more matching like in the second outfit.

How Things Have changed (And What I've been Buying!) : Isolation and Working From Home With Kids

With the schools closed, working from home and parenting and teaching a 4 and 5 year old, things are a lot different now than they were at the start of the year! If you're coming to my blog just for an escape I apologise for how much this post discusses the impacts of the coronavirus! I am trying to keep it outfit focused and make this my regular break into fashion and frivolity, but the truth is the virus has impacted life so much.

I'm sharing two outfits I wore back when I was working from home while the schools were open, so I did the school run. It was a crazy week with a lot of unknowns in Australia about if and how school would continue, so I wanted to be comfortable and wear things to try cheer me up a little as I worked from home and counted down the hours until I could pick my boys up!

Also thought I'd share with you what I've been buying lately. Definitely no fashion spending - aside from the two things I mentioned in this post - but a lot of things to prepare for home isolation with kids. We are in a new world where I have to ensure my kids are learning at home every day as well as working from home myself 3 days a week. I'm blessed to still have my job, but the juggle is hard!

What I wore:

Tee: Life Church Online "Come change the world with me at Church Online" tee
Skirtthrifted Billabong 'Don't Think Of It' bikini red printed maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

For over 9 years now I've been volunteering at Life Church Online. We have a great group in Brisbane that meets up to stream the service together, and every Sunday night I hop online to help at another one of those services. With the news about churches needing to close, and understandably no more Brisbane catch ups, I wanted to wear my Church Online tee. Faith over fear I guess! And a reminder to myself that no matter what is happening in the world, some things like God's love and my regular Sunday online services, stay the same!

Wore my red maxi skirt with this as it was a bit of a cooler day and this felt more comfortable than jeans for working at home during the day. It, along with the turquoise Balenciaga first bag, were easy ways to add more colour to the black and white tee too.

Last worn: red maxi skirt, Balenciaga first bag, Havaianas. First time I've worn the church online tee on the blog.

Other ways to wearred maxi skirt and scarf, Balenciaga first bag and pencil skirt.

What I've Been Buying For Home Isolation:

I've been buying a lot lately. I'm an emotional shopper and while I'm not splurging on fashion items or stockpiling food, I'm thinking about what could be 6 months at home and how we will amuse and teach the kids in these times. We don't often do screen time, just a weekly family movie night and maybe a Daniel Tiger or Bluey episode once during the week, so I have been looking for things other than apps. As a bonus, most of the items I'm sharing are from local Aussie mum owned businesses, so your purchase helps their family as it entertains your own!

Little Birdie Books

Fun book boxes with activity and game ideas (and all the materials you need!) based on the books in the box. You can buy one off book boxes or subscribe to get a steady stream of books and activities. Started by two Aussie mums and speech pathologists, the books and activities are aimed at helping your kids develop essential skills. You can see what I got in a previous box in my YouTube review. I learnt about this company after friending one of the founders on Instagram.

Keeping Kids Busy

This company had been on my radar for a while - a local Aussie mum takes all the guesswork out of travel (or isolation!) by packing a bag filled with activities to keep any age kid entertained. Low mess but high fun bags. My boys got these as bumper "party bags" from my parents after we had to cancel my son's birthday party when the government social distancing restrictions came into place. The things in the bags are still being played with now, just today even. Found this company through a Facebook group, and you can get 15% off this weekend with code EASTER15!

Kids Craft Box

Another Aussie mum owned business, based in WA, who ships a box of crafting materials and activities across the nation, with different themed boxes available. She has special discounts on her Instagram page often, and has a sibling box option to reduce costs which is what I bought for the boys. I "met" this lovely lady through YouTube a couple of years ago.

Messy Play Kits

My kids have been going to these messy play sessions since they were tiny, and now you can order a box of messy play activities to entertain the kids at home! Janelle is a local Aussie mum who is diversifying her business and offering do it yourself packs instead of hosting the big parties she usually does. I'm so glad to have connected with her through playgroup, we have tried a few of her activities we've seen at the sessions at home too over the years!

Activity Books

From anywhere I can find them in stock! Think sticker books, Easter themes, puzzle books and educational workbooks or wipe-clean books. Kmart had a good range but I know stock is really low at the moment.

Printables

There are a few educational sites around with freebies at the moment due to the virus, where you just print the activity pages you think would be helpful for your kids. Some are even created by teachers, for teachers. You could also ask your child's teacher for some ideas if they haven't already provided some. Queensland Education department has a good list of sites too.

There are no affiliate links in these product suggestions and this post was not sponsored in any way. I'm just trying to be supportive and share a list that's useful for a parent if they find that like me, all my time is filled with working, playing with the kids, or worrying about what activities to do with the kids next. I've been visiting fashion blogs less as a result of trying to come up with a learn at home plan for the kids but I'm trying to continue my two posts a week goal here.

Also, if you're an Australian parent, Triple P Parenting (Positive Parenting Program) is now free and has a helpful module, guide and tips for parenting during COVID-19.

What I wore:

TeeLife Church Online "Go online reach the world" graphic tee
Skirt: Jeanswest Luxe jersey maxi skirt
Shoesslim navy and pink Havaianas
BagBalenciaga first bag in 2006 Blue India

Why I wore it:

A very similar outfit to the one above, another Church Online tee with a maxi skirt. I like the "go online, reach the world" message on this one as it's so true! And I'm so glad for the internet at a time like this, and technology to keep in touch with all my family despite the travel restrictions.

Stuck with the same bright Balenciaga first bag as I thought the grey tee and black maxi skirt needed a little extra colour, even with the yellow print on the tee. It was clear this would be my kids last day at school and kindy for a while, so that was bittersweet when I picked them up at the end of my work from home day.

Last worn: black drawstring maxi skirt, Havaianas (above), Balenciaga first bag (above).

Other ways to wearblack drawstring maxi skirt worn two ways, Balenciaga first bag and shorts.

How You can Wear It:

A graphic tee is a simple outfit choice with a maxi skirt - and so incredibly comfortable for working from home, while being presentable enough for any video calls!

It will be a very different Easter break but no matter what you are wearing: stay safe, wash your hands and stay home as much as you can as you watch your church Easter service online.

30 Ways To Wear: Mothers En Vogue Navy Breastfeeding Tank

This tank is such a wardrobe staple! An extremely useful breastfeeding piece, it has hidden nursing access and is such a super soft bamboo that I wasn't ready to give it away with the rest of my maternity / breastfeeding pieces. I decided to keep it in my wardrobe as a great wardrobe basic, and it's been such a good piece to have. For something that I got when pregnant with my now 5 and a half year old, it's really stood the test of time!

30 Ways To Wear: Navy Breastfeeding Tank

Cost per wear is tricky to calculate for this tank as I didn't actually pay anything for it, it was something I got through a blog partnership back when I was pregnant with my now 5 and a half year old! The retail was around $70 if I remember correctly and I certainly think it's worth the investment. You can get it on sale for cheaper here or the long sleeved version here.

While I have worn it 30 times, only 10 of those wears have been after I stopped breastfeeding. It was a staple breastfeeding tank for me and on frequent repeat back in those days. It really shows that if you invest in the right maternity / breastfeeding pieces, you can get a lot of wear from them in the future too. In fact, both of the Mothers En Vogue pieces I got in pregnancy are the two pieces that have stayed in my post-pregnancy wardrobe. I've shared 30 wears with the pink breastfeeding dress, the other piece I got, before.

When shopping in pregnancy, stick with neutral colours, like this indigo shade, or colours you already have a lot of in your non-maternity wardrobe. I'm going to be still using and loving this tank in the years to come (or whenever I get to get out the house again!). I like the bubble gathered effect and the neutral navy colour goes with everything. I'll show you some outfit pieces and colour combinations you can wear a similar piece with in your wardrobe!

Colour Combinations With A Navy Tank:

Navy Tank In Monochrome Outfits

Blue is my favourite colour so I love a good monochrome outfit, easily done by pairing this navy tank with other navy or blue pieces in my wardrobe. To stop the outfit looking too plain you can try wearing different sades of blue together, or try a printed navy piece with the block colour tank.

Navy Tank With Green

Blue and green is a colour combination I've only been wearing for a few years but I am not sure why I avoided it for so long! With the neutral navy, it looks good with bright emerald greens like the necklace and skirt, or the floral duster kimono, as well as a more muted green with the olive shorts.

Navy Tank With Pink

Blue and pink look great together - and these three outfits showcase that so well with different sades and amounts of pink. With bright magenta jeans, a pink bag or a blush blazer, there is no shade of pink that doesn't look good with navy!

Navy Tank With Purple

Blue and purple is another go-to colour combo for me. Just as you saw in the pink outfit set above, different shades or purple and different amounts of purple work well with this tank. Purple skinny jeans, purple accessories, and a purple cardigan. Even a pink, blue and purple outfit like the last one there with the purple kimono over the tank and the magenta pink bag.

Navy Tank With Red

Red really pops with navy! Again, you can do this in different ways. A red bag is a fun burst of colour with a neutral tank like this, or you can go a little bigger and bolder like the outfit in the middle with the red skirt worn with the navy tank. Even if the skirt does look a little orange in these pics, taken back when Brisbane had a lot of orange haze from the smoke last year.

Navy Tank With Yellow

Yellow is such a cheerful colour to wear, but sometimes it can feel a little overpowering. A nice neutral basic outfit building block like this navy tank works well with yellow. It really lets even a little bit of yellow, like a yellow necklace, really pop.

Outfit Ideas With a Navy tank:

Navy Tank with Denim

It's no surprise that I've worn this top with a lot of denim! Jeans are such a mum staple and you've seen this top worn a lot with denim in this post. These 4 outfits show you how you can mix it up a little with the denim - trying different colours, or a denim jacket instead of jeans. They also show how much I loved that Nibbly Bits necklace when breastfeeding! 😂 I suspect that necklace is part of the reason why my kids love playing with my accessories so much...

Navy Tank with Prints

And the final way you can wear a plain navy tank like this is with something printed! It's such a fail-safe outfit formula, a plain block-colour piece like this top with something bold and printed. Stripes are a firm favourite of mine, but printed jeans or even a tie dye kimono, any print works!

Where To Buy Navy Tanks Under $50:

Not all of these are specific maternity or breastfeeding pieces but they will still be staples in your wardrobe!

Two ways To Wear a Navy Tank (With Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford Bag)

For today's weekday wear post I'm sharing two ways I've recently worn this navy tank. A breastfeeding piece I got when pregnant with my eldest boy, it's such a staple it's never left my wardrobe even though my breastfeeding days are behind me!

I'm continuing to blog as much as possible while the world is so uncertain, it's part of my routine and after 8 years of blogging and outfit photo taking it would be weird to stop! However, not going out as often and working from home has meant more loungewear, so I have less outfits to share as I only share pics of what I actually wear out the house.

While I've dropped my Wednesday post I'll still endeavour to post Monday and Fridays. In fact you'll see this navy top again in my 30 ways to wear post this Friday, as it's hit 30 wears!

Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo (c/o)
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Wore this to quickly pop out to do the school run and get groceries two weeks ago, which seems so long ago now. While social distancing wasn't as much of a thing then I thought this beautiful green floral duster kimono would help keep my personal space as it can billow out behind me when I walk quickly 😂 It also brought some extra colour to my outfit to cheer me up and boost my mood - grocery shopping has been a bit difficult lately with the shortages around and I needed something to make me smile.

The navy tank and the blue Bermuda denim shorts were another attempt to make me smile - blue is my favourite and go-to colour when I want to feel a little happier!

With the green kimono breaking up the blue a bit I thought this navy Rebecca Minkoff micro Bedford bag would be a nice compliment to the blue tank and shorts. Normally I'd have more exciting things in mind for the first outings with a new bag, but I thought I'd take the opportunity to wear this bag while I still can! Even if it was just for the school run and grocery shopping.

Last worn: green duster kimono, coin and tassel necklacenavy breastfeeding tank, Bermuda denim shorts, New Balance sneakers. First time I've worn the bag as it is a recent purchase.

Unboxing My Latest Rebecca Minkoff Purchase:

No "what I bought this month" post up as with all the craziness in the world I only have this bag I bought to share, and a fun orange blazer I got preloved. I optimistically bid on it a few weeks before things changed in Australia, when I was still going into work and it eventually arrived on my second week of who knows how many weeks working from home. I'm hopeful it will make an appearance on the blog soon...but it is really an office piece!

Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo (c/o)
Skirt: Ally Fashion blue border print floral maxi skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Bedford zip satchel in twilight

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, I kept this completely monochromatic with navy and blue. I really like the navy Micro Bedford bag with the blue floral skirt, it was such a nice combination. The silver necklace is an older favourite and was a bit of matchy-matchy with the silver hardware on the micro Bedford bag, and silver ballet flats.

Another day of being mostly at home - I did pop out to the grocery store again after school drop off and helping in my son's classroom. It was the second time that week I'd been to the grocery store, hoping that there would be more in stock. Got a few more things from my list thankfully, but there were still a lot of bare shelves even with the newly implemented shopping limits.

Yes, we need shopping limits at all our grocery stores to stop people hoarding and panic buying! A couple in front of me had some of their shopping removed by the cashier because they hadn't stuck to the limits. Thankfully there was no angry outbursts or need for police intervention as I've seen around a lot lately. What a crazy world we live in!

Accessorising Pink and White Shorts And Tee Outfits: Blue Kimonos and Pink Bags

Wearing some easy pink and white shorts and tee outfits with blue kimonos and pink bags. To make it look a little different each time I swapped around the tees and shorts, so it was a white tee and pink shorts one day and a pink tee and white shorts the next week!

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | navy kimono with white tee blush pink shorts Rebecca Minkoff darren messenger bag

Necklace: blush pink and gold beaded tassel necklace
TeeAtmos & Here white essential v-neck tee
Shorts: thrifted pastel pink cotton shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony (more affordable preowned!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this back on the last day of summer to go shopping with my mum - she had some things to buy and there was a Leap Day Sale on at Myer so we went out to shop up a storm. Didn't find anything that I had to have for myself but did manage to pick up some Lego sets for the kids birthdays this year - at 30% off I stocked up!

I felt this white tee was overdue a wear and figured a day of shopping was probably an okay time to wear it - I try to pick days where there is less likelihood of me or the kids spilling something on myself! Unfortunately I did have soup for dinner, thankfully the soup stains washed out!

The blush necklace I have been wearing quite a bit lately - it pairs so nicely with the blush pink shorts! The peony pink Rebecca Minkoff small Darren bag was another bit of matchy-matchy. I wasn't sure if it would be too much with this outfit at first but with the blue printed kimono on top I think it separated the pinks nicely and it was a great accessory to wear.

Last worn: blue printed kimono, blush tassel necklace, white v-neck tee, blush pink shorts, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag.

Other ways to wearblue printed kimono with Bermuda shorts, white v-neck tee and pencil skirt, blush pink shorts and denim jacketRebecca Minkoff small Darren and dress.

My Favourite Balenciaga Bag In My Handbag Collection:

TeeCotton On deep v tee in washed desert rose
Shorts: thrifted Emerson white Bermuda denim shorts
ShoesNew Balance white and blue sneakers
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Just like the outfit above, it's a pink and white shorts and tee outfit, but this time I wore white Bermuda denim shorts and a pink tee instead to swap the colours up. I thought this navy floral kimono worked really well with the pink tee, and I've not worn the two together before. I have worn the tee and shorts together before though!

I thought a pink bag would work well with this, just like the first outfit above, and I needed a bag big enough to carry mine and my son's water bottles in so I didn't have to carry the baby bag too. This sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag was perfect, even if it is a different shade from the pink on the tee and the pink in the floral print of the kimono, I thought it complimented it well.

Wore this for a busy way with the school drop off and pick up, a doctors appointment (just a repeat script one, nothing serious!), attempting to grocery shop during the toilet paper shortage which is surprisingly still continuing weeks later... and logging in to work for a can't miss meeting. Thankfully we managed to buy everything we needed despite some bare supermarket shelves, and sticking a few episodes of Bluey on kept the kids happy after school while I joined the afternoon meeting! Unfortunately the tassel on my necklace fell off in the morning, but I'm hoping I can repair it (it's not the first time it's broken sadly).

Last worn: navy floral kimono, navy and gold tassel necklace, raspberry pink tee, white Bermuda denim shorts, New Balance sneakers (above), Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Striped Tanks and Colourful Skinny Jeans With Rebecca Minkoff small Chevron Quilted Love Crossbody Bag

This is basically the autumn version of these outfits! I'm wearing these two striped tanks again, instead of maxi skirts this time I'm pairing them with colourful skinny jeans and a little bright Rebecca Minkoff small chevron quilted Love crossbody bag for a pop of colour.

You'll notice the shoes and bag are the same in both outfits - I wore these a couple days apart when I needed something simple and easy to wear without too much thinking, turns out when you are distracted by other things you end up repeating the basics multiple times!

What I wore:

burgundy skinny jeans with black and white striped tank and rebecca minkoff orange love crossbody bag | awayfromblue

Necklace:  thrifted pearl and heart charm long necklace
TankAtmos & Here Oregon stripe tank
Pants: Jeanswest Harper skinny pant in Russet
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagRebecca Minkoff chevron quilted small Love crossbody bag in pale coral

Why I wore it:

I had a rare luxury of a kid-free day off last week! I'd been in a training course most of the week for work which meant changing my work days around to suit the course, leaving me with my normal work day free and child care arrangements already in place. I was in a bit of pain with my knee so decided to change my plans a little and instead of a day at home I headed out for a luxurious relaxation massage. I wasn't sure about being out but figured it might be my last indulgence for a while so I took the opportunity.

I've been going to the physio regularly for my knee since I injured it late last year, but a relaxation massage is a lot gentler than the effective but not always pleasant techniques at the physio! Had a productive afternoon filming some more videos for my YouTube channel afterwards too.

With these burgundy jeans I thought the little peach Rebecca Minkoff chevron quilted love bag would be a great choice, and I just needed my wallet, phone and keys as I headed out. I really liked the orange and red together!

Last worn: black striped tank, heart charm necklace, burgundy skinny jeans, camel ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff chevron small love bag.

Other ways to wearblack striped tank and maxi skirt, burgundy skinny jeans with turquoise tank, camel ballet flats and a-line skirt, Rebecca Minkoff chevron small love bag and kimono.

Jeans: Jeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel

Why I wore it:

Again, sticking with simple things! Another striped tank and pair of colourful jeans! I even wore the same shoes, although I did change the necklace this time. Wanted to be comfortable for the school run and it was a slightly cooler morning so I thought jeans would be a good choice again. The little peach Rebecca Minkoff love bag is something I've worn with these olive jeans before, I really like the green and orange combination! I carried the baby bag too for our water bottles.

Was a bit of a strange day when I wore this - after dropping my eldest off at school the youngest and I went out to the grocery store, we needed some more fruit and bread, nothing big. It was strange seeing some of the empty shelves and then while walking around my phone started blowing up with calls and texts with the news of the first of the office closures as a result of the COVID-19 virus. Which I'd been thinking would have been happening soon.

For the immediate time being, we are going to be putting social distancing in place - so we sat out on all our usual activities over the weekend, I think like many people across Australia. What that means for us this weekend and in the weeks to come I don't know. I also don't know how much I'll be in the office and how much I'll be working from home as it seems to change day to day!

If I'm not going out I'm not getting dressed into something other than lounge wear so I don't know what will happen blog-wise (at the moment I'll still have to do the school run at least) but there are bigger things in the world to focus on. I do have a couple more posts scheduled before I run out of outfit pics. The difficulty of sharing pics of what I actually wear I guess! I'll try keep this blog as light and fashion focused as I can - we all need a break and a bit of frivolity now and then.

Striped Tanks Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A striped tank is a great basic - especially when worn with another wardrobe staple, skinny jeans! For something a little different you can break away from the blue jeans rut with a colourful pair of denim instead.
