Two Ways To Wear A Black Pencil Skirt: Weekday Wear Linkup

For today's Weekday Wear Linkup I'm sharing two different ways to wear a black pencil skirt - for the office and for mum life.

This linkup post will be up a little longer than normal as I won't have my usual post on Wednesday as it will be Christmas day. I'll be back posting as usual on the 27th December with some boxing day sales.

What I wore:

metallic tank statement necklace tweed blazer black pencil skirt in the office with purple bag way to wear | awayfromblue

office outfit with Balenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag | away from the blue

awayfromblue Instagram | summer office outfit with metallic tank and boucle blazer purple balenciaga work bag
Jacket: Jeanswest Dixie collarless jacket
Necklace: thrifted Equip turquoise cream multi strand bead necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
Skirt: Jeanswest zip detail ponte pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne Ava white leopard ballet flats
BagBalenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag

Why I wore it:

I was a little annoyed with this outfit! I love the metallic tank for a subtle bit of shimmer and the tweed blazer dresses it up nicely and covers my shoulders for the office. The beaded statement necklace was a bit of matchy-matchy with the silver, white and turquoise beads. It got broken and hastily repaired out at dinner one night so it's now a strictly worn without the kids piece. But it went and broke on me while I was in a meeting. A virtual meeting at my desk thankfully but I was still a bit frustrated!

Even with the turquoise in the necklace I thought this outfit needed a little more colour so went with the purple Balenciaga work bag, and added even more interest with the leopard print flats. I did really like this outfit until the necklace annoyed me!

Last worn: tweed blazer, turquoise beaded necklace, metallic tank, black pencil skirt, leopard print flats, Balenciaga purple work bag.

Other ways to weartweed blazer and printed tank, metallic tank worn two ways, black pencil skirt in winter, leopard print flats and skater dress, Balenciaga purple work bag worn 30 ways.

Balenciaga vs Rebecca Minkoff Bags:

What I wore:

TankJeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver (on sale!)
SkirtJeanswest zip detail ponte pencil skirt
Shoes:  Wittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

Rushed out of the office early to get home and changed before heading out with family for an important event. Decided to keep the outfit base the same, with the same metallic tank and black pencil skirt, but swapped the ballet flats for these studded sandals, and the blazer for a more casual kimono. It's not the first time I've worn this kimono with a pencil skirt, I enjoyed it last time I wore that combination too.

Swapped the accessories out for a more kid-friendly necklace, and a cute little red bag to add some extra colour to my outfit.

Simple and quick outfit for a night out with family, followed by dinner at our place before putting two very tired kids to bed very late!

Last worn: navy printed kimono, blue beaded necklace, metallic silver tank (above), black pencil skirt (above), studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery tote.

Other ways to wearnavy printed kimono and skinny jeans, metallic silver tank and maxi skirt, black pencil skirt over a dress, studded sandals and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery tote and teal dress.

Perfect for pregnancynavy printed kimono at 39 weeks, black pencil skirt in first trimester, studded sandals in third trimester.

Black Pencil Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A pencil skirt is a wardrobe staple, and it's easy to layer it up with a blazer to fit a formal work environment. You can dress it down by changing the outerwear again - pick something more casual like a kimono for an easy outfit that's suitable for a hot summer night.

Kmart Floral Dresses and Louis Vuitton Damier Azur Neverfull MM

Most of my outfits follow a similar formula - bargain clothes and splurge worthy bags! These two are no exception, with the cheap and cheerful floral dresses from Kmart (both under $25) paired with my Louis Vuitton damier azur Neverfull tote (which costs almost 100 times more than the dresses 😂).
Makes a very simple, if expensive, outfit for a hot summer day!

What I wore:

Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress with waterfall jacket Louis vuitton neverfull | awayfromblue

floral maxi dress with Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull | awayfromtheblue

Jacket: no label white drape jacket
Necklace: Lovisa gold filigree heart pendant
Dress: Kmart Tropicana sleeveless tiered maxi dress
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

Found this old white waterfall jacket in my wardrobe when trying to organise my new wardrobe room (post and video coming once I have it setup the way I want!). It's survived a few wardrobe declutters and it's many years old but it's only been worn a handful of times. The last time was back in 2016! It is a nice simple, lightweight cover up that will go with everything, so that's why I keep justifying keeping it despite how little it's worn. I did enjoy wearing it with this maxi dress, it was a good way to cover up the spaghetti straps and keep warm in church. So for now, it's staying in my wardrobe, and if I don't wear it any time over the next month I'll be donating it.

Kept the accessories simple, and since the Louis Vuitton neverfull tote has gold hardware I went with my rose gold accessories - these strappy sandals and the filigree heart necklace. Simple outfit for the morning at church and a quick stop at Bunnings.

Last worn: white waterfall jacket, rose gold heart necklace, floral tiered maxi dress, gold sandals, Louis Vuitton neverfull tote.

Other ways to wearwhite waterfall jacket and shorts, floral tiered maxi dress layered with a knit, gold sandals and jeans, Louis Vuitton neverfull tote in the office.

Perfect for pregnancywhite waterfall jacket in third trimester, Louis Vuitton neverfull tote at 38 weeks.

30 Ways To Wear: Louis Vuitton Neverfull

What I wore:

Kmart teal floral print midi dress with Louis Vuitton MM neverfull damier azur | away from the blue

awayfromblue Instagram | family Christmas card photo outfit kmart teal floral midi dress louis vuitton damier azur neverfull
Earrings: Kmart mustard gold tassel earrings
NecklaceSilhoupette gold plated Shih Tzu necklace
Dress: Kmart teal floral print midi dress
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

Completely outfit repeating here! While it's the first time I've worn the neverfull tote with this dress, I've worn the mustard and gold earrings with it before, and the rose gold sandals. Also wore the same sandals in the first outfit! Wanted a slightly dressy option for our family photo.

For the past few years we have been taking our annual family Santa photo at the RSPCA "Santa Paws" event. It's a great way to get a pic of the whole family, including our dog, and we use the photos for our Christmas cards each year. We were prepared this year, and I wore this for our family photo back in November. Our little one had gotten over his Santa fear a few days before Christmas last year, and we had a tablet lined up with a pre-downloaded video to capture the boys attention. Bag of tricks packed (this neverfull holds so much!) I was feeling confident this year about getting a good photo.

All was good until we actually sat down next to Santa, and the tears began and both the photography staff and Cooper were terrified. Our poor pup, he'd been enjoying the Santa cuddles just moments before! In the end we worked on a comprise and Santa went away and hid so we could get a picture without him. Boys and dogs now calm, Santa snuck up behind us for the final pic and we finally got a good shot. It seemed even more stressful than last year, and I'd thought we were so prepared! I think we may need to look into a Santa-free photo next year! 😂 I did like my outfit at least, even if the day didn't go as smoothly as planned.

Last worn: gold tassel earrings, teal floral midi dress, gold Shih Tzu necklace, rose gold sandals (above), Louis Vuitton neverfull tote (above).

Other ways to wearteal floral midi dress worn two ways, rose gold sandals and tee dress, Louis Vuitton neverfull tote and graphic tee.

Perfect for pregnancyLouis Vuitton neverfull tote in third trimester.

Floral Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A floral dress is a classic option - in a midi or maxi length! With a bold and colourful print, you don't need to accessorise much, and a go-with-everything tote and metallic accessories create a simple outfit.

Monday's weekday wear link up post will be running as normal, but I won't have a post on Wednesday as it's Christmas day. Have a very merry Christmas!

Two Ways to Accessorise Monochrome Blue Shorts Outfits - Red, Yellow and Green

Blue is my favourite colour and I do wear a lot of it! While I'm trying to stay away from the blue jeans, I do love my blue denim shorts. I paired the blue shorts with some blue tops to create monochromatic outfits, and accessorised each with different colours. Bright bags and kimonos with shorts outfits are a summer staple for me!

What I wore:

navy slouchy tee denim shorts red printed kimono and micro avery bag summer mum style | awayfromblue

beaded wrap bracelet roie designs with Rebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | summer mum style shorts and kimono red accessories with monochromatic blue outfit
Jacket: Choies red vintage pattern kimono
Necklace: thrifted pearl and heart charm long necklace
Tee: thrifted Emerson navy slouchy tee
Shortsthrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs waxed leather cream howlite beaded wrap bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff red micro Avery cross body bag

Why I wore it:

Wore this to spend the day with my sister. I love when our days off line up together, and the kids really love spending time with their fave aunt! We headed out to Bounce which is basically just a giant warehouse filled with trampolines. Wanted something simple to jump around in but cool for the hot day so picked this super soft tee and denim shorts. It felt a little plain so I added the kimono for a touch of colour, and the little red Rebecca Minkoff Avery tote matches the red in the print.

Still felt this outfit was lacking a little something so added this light thrifted necklace - didn't want anything too heavy while bouncing around! Ended up doing more bouncing than I expected, as my sister and I perfected the double bounce you can see below and also enjoyed bouncing off the trampoline onto a giant pillow with the boys. Was a great day, and after lunch we relaxed a little bit before an early dinner and when out again for a trial sports session in the evening for my eldest son.

Last worn: red kimono, heart charm layered necklace, navy slouchy tee, denim shorts, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery tote.

Other ways to wearred kimono and little black dress, navy slouchy tee and maxi skirt, denim shorts and printed tee, Rebecca Minkoff micro Avery tote with teal dress.

Perfect for pregnancyred kimono in third trimester.

My Favourite Rebecca Minkoff Bag:

What I wore:

Tank: MEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo C/O
ShortsJeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff emerald green mini 5-zip rocker bag (get 20% off with code "REAL")

Why I wore it:

I think part of the reason I love yellow so much is that it goes great with blue! I wasn't feeling the best on this day so decided to try brighten up my monochrome blue tank and denim shorts outfit with this bright yellow kimono. I felt it was a great topper for the navy and made me look a little more energetic than I felt! The long tassel necklace broke up the blue a bit, and this little green Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip bag was another fun way to add some colour.

While my breastfeeding days are behind me, I kept this tank in my wardrobe as it's a good basic and you wouldn't know just by looking at it that it's designed for breastfeeding!

Was a quiet day with the boys - headed to our local fenced in park so I could try sit and rest while they played. Bumped into my friend there so the boys had fun playing together and getting some of their energy out!

Last worn: yellow kimono, pearl tassel necklace, navy tank, Bermuda denim shorts, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip.

Other ways to wearyellow kimono with black and white outfit, navy tank and striped skirt, Bermuda denim shorts worn 30 ways, Rebecca Minkoff mini 5 zip and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancynavy tank in third trimester.

Navy Tops Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A navy top is a great basic to have in your wardrobe- tanks or tees, both look great with denim! To break up the monochrome combo when wearing it with blue denim, try adding other colours to your outfit like a colourful bag or bright kimono.

Weekday Wear Link Up: Printed A-Line Skirts and Tees In The Office

Working in a business casual office that's more on the casual side than the business side of dressing means tees are perfectly acceptable in the office. I do try dress them up a little each time I wear them, by wearing a pretty skirt like these or adding a blazer or statement necklace.

What I wore:

leaf print silk skirt with olive slouchy tee jersey blazer summer office outfit with Mulberry bayswater | awayfromblue

autumnal coloured outfit with mulberry heritage bayswater tote bag | away from the blue

awayfromblue Instagram | olive tee statement necklace jersey blazer silk skirt in office with mulberry bayswater tote

TeeJeanswest Emma woven trim tee in dark green (on sale!)
SkirtFrench Connection silk leaf print skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (cheaper second hand)

Why I wore it:

This is a very autumnal toned outfit for summer! I thought I'd let the skirt stand out as the star and pair it with neutrals. This dark olive tee is so comfortable and slouchy, and even though it's a very different shade of green from the skirt I thought it went nicely with it. The black blazer and tan ballet flats and Mulberry Bayswater were nice neutral accessories to wear, but I did add a little extra interest with the crystal statement necklace so the outfit didn't feel too dark.

It was a very busy day in the office, and even if my big meeting with a manager was rescheduled, and I didn't need the blazer, I still felt suitably dressed for the day.

Last wornblack jersey blazer, statement crystal necklace, olive tee, leaf print silk skirt, tan ballet flats, Mulberry Bayswater.

Other ways to wearblack jersey blazer and wrap dress, olive tee and shorts, leaf print silk skirt in winter, tan ballet flats and skinny jeans, Mulberry Bayswater and chambray dress.

Perfect for pregnancyblack jersey blazer at 39 weeks, leaf print silk skirt in second trimester, tan ballet flats in third trimester, Mulberry Bayswater in second trimester.

Wear and Tear: Mulberry Bayswater After 7 Years

What I wore:

Tee: thrifted Mix Apparel black marle tee
Skirt: Garfunkle Australia pleated print skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (cheaper second hand)

Why I wore it:

I really don't know why I don't wear this skirt more often! It's such a fun piece and I love yellow! Every time I wear it it gets compliments, it's far too pretty to hide away in my wardrobe.

It's the first time I've worn this black tee with it but I do like wearing it with black tops - picking a colour out of the print is such an easy way to pull an outfit together when you're wearing something printed.

Wasn't sure if this necklace was a bit much given the skirt is already a bit of a statement, but I liked the combination when I tried it on that morning so decided to stick with it. The skirt and necklace always get a lot of compliments when I wear them, even more this time around I wore them both together!

The grey blazer and metallic silver shoes were a little bit of matchy-matchy with the outfit too. The big meeting with the manger was rescheduled to this day so the blazer again made me feel suitably dressed.

Last worngrey jersey blazer, metallic statement necklace, black space dye tee, printed pleated skirt, silver ballet flats, Mulberry Bayswater (above).

Other ways to weargrey jersey blazer and print mix, black space dye tee and denim jacket, printed pleated skirt with navy, silver ballet flats and burgundy pants, mulberry Bayswater and pencil skirt.

Perfect for pregnancyprinted pleated skirt in second trimester, silver ballet flats in third trimester, mulberry Bayswater in third trimester.

Printed A-Line Skirts Under $50:

How You can Wear It:

A printed A-line skirt is a fun alternative to a classic pencil skirt in the office. They are easy to dress up more with a blazer too, even if you wear them with a casual tee.

Jeanswest Duster Kimonos With Denim Shorts, Space Dye Tees and Louis Vuitton Neverfull

If you've followed my blog for a while you'd know that I love Jeanswest. It's easily my favourite clothing store, and I always ask for gift cards from there at Christmas. So when they come out with a kimono, a much loved staple of my wardrobe, I'm very likely to get it.

They've really stepped up their game recently with a whole heap of kimonos and so I spent the last of my Christmas gift cards getting these two amazing bright kimonos from Jeanswest, perfect for summer! They were both 40% off in the sales too 😉

What I wore:

Jeanswest Eliza summer poncho in yellow floral with denim shorts and space dye tee LV neverfull beach picnic outfit | awayfromblue

yellow floral kimono with Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue Instagram | Jeanswest Eliza summer poncho in yellow floral denim shorts tee beach picnic outfit
JacketJeanswest Eliza summer poncho in yellow floral (new purchase)
Necklace: navy and silver circle pendant tassel necklace
Tee: thrifted Kmart space dye cream and black longline top
ShortsJeanswest Sara distressed hot short
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

This kimono was a must have, as soon as I saw it I knew I'd use up the last of my Christmas gift cards to get it. So perfect! It's called a poncho on the Jeanswest site but I'm just going to call it a kimono. It's so light and floaty, perfect for our hot summer days in Brisbane and it's the most cheerful bright shade of yellow!

Wore it out for the first time for a picnic by the beach with some family over visiting from WA. The sunny morning turned into a showery day when we got there so we huddled together eating hot chips to stay warm until the sun and the humidity returned. I'd picked shorts to wear as I didn't want to overheat in jeans - regretted that choice with the wind and rain, but was happy for the rest of the day when the sun came out and jeans would have been too warm.

With the plain shorts and space dye tee the yellow kimono was a nice bright pop of colour, and my Louis Vuitton neverfull is a frequently worn bag to the beach, or to a picnic, or a picnic by the beach in this case!

Last worn: space dye tee, navy tassel necklace, black distressed denim shorts, Havaianas, Louis Vuitton Neverfull. First time I've worn the kimono as it was a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearspace dye tee and red jeans, black distressed denim shorts and scarf, Louis Vuitton Neverfull in the office.

Perfect for pregnancy: Louis Vuitton Neverfull in third trimester.

What's In My Bag: Louis Vuitton Neverfull

What I wore:

NecklaceRoie Designs long freshwater pearl necklace with tassel
Tee: thrifted Mix Apparel black marle tee
Shortsthrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
ShoesNovo Tawny rose gold sandals

Why I wore it:

The last photo in front of the Jacaranda trees for the season! I had been trying to get as many pics with them as I could and when I took this photo mid-November there were already more green leaves on the trees than purple flowers. It has been fun trying to stop at the best ones we passed to get pics - although there were many more I wish I could have taken pics with. Next year!

I went back to this street with my tripod this time as I knew to get a shot of the big purple trees behind me I'd need the camera to stand on the road. The boys patiently waited for me on the pavement as I snapped away, before we headed to a coffee date with a friend and then a play in the playground. Being a hot day I'd wanted to have a bit of a splash in the bay to cool down, but a warning about the illness causing algae in the water kept us off the beach sadly!

It was too hot for anything other than shorts and a tee, but I thought that the rose gold sandals and green duster kimono dressed up the outfit nicely for meeting my friend. This kimono was another must have as soon as I saw it, and I picked it up for 40% off in the Jeanswest sale too, earlier this year. I can never resist a good sale!

Last worn: green duster kimono, pearl tassel necklace, black space dye tee, distressed denim shorts, rose gold sandals, Louis Vuitton Neverfull (above).

How You Can Wear It:

Shorts and a tee is a staple in the summer heat and humidity, and a great outfit for running around with the kids. You can add some extra colour to your outfit, or dress it up a little with a bright duster kimono like these two here.

Weekday Wear Linkup: Wrap Tops and Pencil Skirts With Balenciaga Day Bags

For today's weekday wear I'm wearing some wrap tops that haven't been worn in a while with pencil skirts and statement necklaces for an easy office outfit.

What I wore:

TopAtmos & Here Arlene wrap top in navy
SkirtAtmos&Here grey marle jersey pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne Ava white leopard ballet flats
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

It's not the first time I've worn this navy wrap top with a grey pencil skirt, I really like navy and grey together! To change it up a little I added some different accessories. This green and red beaded statement necklace is a firm fave and while I do wear it at other times through the year it seems so perfectly festive for December, being so close to Christmas! I wasn't sure if the leopard print flats would be too much with this given the necklace was already enough of a statement, but I ended up really liking it when I tried it.

The tempete Balenciaga day bag is the perfect mix of blue and grey so seemed like the obvious choice to wear with this 💙

Last worn: navy wrap top, green and red necklace, grey jersey pencil skirt, leopard print flats, Balenciaga tempete day bag.

Other ways to wearnavy wrap top and maxi skirt, grey jersey pencil skirt worn two ways, leopard print flats and jeans, Balenciaga tempete day bag and floral dress.

Why I wore it:

Followed the same blue and grey colour scheme as the first outfit for this one, just with a single brighter colour in my accessories. I thought the basic grey wrap top was a nice neutral to pair with the jacquard pencil skirt and I really like the way the magenta pops against it!

This recently thrifted necklace was one I couldn't pass by in the opshop when I was in looking for Christmas books for our advent calendar. I knew it would be the perfect match with this magenta Balenciaga day bag and I love the way they look together!

Last worn: grey wrap top, jacquard pencil skirt, silver ballet flats, Balenciaga magenta day bag. First time I've worn the necklace as it was a recent purchase.

Other ways to weargrey wrap top and jeans, jacquard pencil skirt in winter, silver ballet flats and printed dress, Balenciaga magenta day bag and maxi skirt.

Wrap Tops Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A simple wrap top is a nice twist on a basic and works well in the office when you need to be a little more dressed up. They are great with pencil skirts! I bought both of these wrap tops for easy breastfeeding as they have a snap to hold them in place. It makes them simple to wear at work as they don't gape open. You could always layer a tank underneath if your top doesn't have a modesty snap.
