New Tees and Textured Pencil Skirts With Balenciaga Bags

After I completed my No Buy July challenge, I made up for not shopping for a month and quickly started buying things in August! I picked up two tees from Jeanswest and thought that they would go nicely with my textured pencil skirts for work. Plain tee, busy textured skirt, seems like a fail-safe outfit. I'm wearing the tees in the outfits below, with mixed results!

What I wore:

navy macintosh, jacquared pencil skirt and Louis Vuitton shawl scarf with red tee winter office outfit | awayfromblue

Balenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH | awayfromtheblue

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
TeeJeanswest Emma woven trim tee in terracotta (new purchase)
SkirtWarehouse navy jacquard pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

I like wearing red and blue together. While I don't have a lot of red in my wardrobe, it's a colour I love accessorising with when I'm wearing something blue. It was nice to switch things up a little and wear this new red tee with a colourful blue scarf for a slight reversal on the usual blue clothes and red accessories combination.

It's the first time I've worn this tee and I really liked it. The shade of red is so easy to wear and it's so soft, definitely my kinda tee. It was my last day at work before going on leave, so I was a bit busy trying to get everything done on time, and it was nice to have a comfortable outfit to wear with all the craziness.

With the bright colours in the outfit, I thought a classic neutral bag would be best to accessorise with and picked my black Balenciaga part time. I've been wearing this bag often lately, it goes with everything and fits a lot, such a good bag and one of my favourites from my Balenciaga handbag collection. I've included a video below for you of my full collection!

Why I wore it:

I didn't like this outfit as much as the one above, even though it follows the same outfit formula (you know I love my outfit formulas!). When I first tried on this tee I had a closer look at the tag as I couldn't really tell what colour it was - what looked green in the store looked more grey in the change rooms. It's officially 'dark green'. I thought I'd take advantage of the deeper olive looking more grey and wear it how I would a grey tee, with blue and purple. I wouldn't normally try the colour combo with olive!

I felt good about my choice in the morning to wear the grey/green tee with the blue lace skirt and purple blanket scarf, even adding in my purple Balenciaga work bag for a bit of matchy-matchy. Reviewing the photos though I worried it looked a bit too olive to work with the purple. Of course I had to get to work so wore it anyway, alternating between liking and being unsure about the combo through the day!

It's funny as I look at the photos now on my computer screen and the tee looks more grey - it's definitely going to be a fun tee to wear. (I have worn it with olive as well and really loved that combo!)

Last worn: Barkins trench coat, purple blanket scarf, lace pencil skirt, Walnut Melbourne, Balenciaga purple work bag. First time I've worn this tee on the blog, although I have worn it previously and just not posted it yet.

Textured Pencil Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

With a busy textured skirt, a plain top is a good choice. You don't have to worry about the prints clashing or your outfit being too loud. A classic tee like these ones are good pieces to have in your wardrobe, but if your office dress code is more formal you could swap them out for a plain blouse instead.

Monochrome Skinny Jeans Outfits With Converse and Scarves from Fashion Scarf Girl

In case you missed the news on Instagram, I'm thrilled to announce that I'm a brand rep for Fashion Scarf Girl! What this means is that I've got a few scarves (marked C/O below) I get to style over the next 6 months. To really let two of the scarves shine, I paired them with monochromatic skinny jeans outfits and a black Balenciaga Part Time bag.

What I wore:

monochrome grey long sleeve tee outfit nobody denim skinny jeans converse poppy print scarf | awayfromblue

Balenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH slouchy G21 hardware | awayfromtheblue

TeeAtmos&Here grey Arizona zip tee
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (C/O)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

This large poppy print scarf is actually a big rectangle, but for something a little different I decided to tie it together and wear it like a snood. It worked really well, was a nice pop of colour up near my face to distract from the fact that I wasn't feeling too well and also that I was a little nervous - hubby and I had a big appointment that morning. A comfortable outfit with just a little touch of colour was exactly what I needed.

I was glad I'd worn the scarf so snuggly around my neck, it was quite a chilly start to the day, and I'd decided not to wear a tank under this tee as I usually do! The tee is cropped so it pulls up a bit sometimes and usually a tank underneath is necessary to keep things covered. The high waist on these Nobody Denim Siren skinny jeans was enough coverage, even if I did wish I'd worn a tank purely for warmth too!

Last worn: grey zip hem  tee, Nobody Denim Siren jeans, Converse, Balenciaga part time bag. First time I've worn the scarf as it's a recent addition to my wardrobe.

Other ways to weargrey zip hem tee and shorts, Nobody Denim Siren jeans and blazer, Converse and printed dress, Balenciaga part time bag in the office.

Perfect for pregnancygrey zip hem tee hiding a baby bump, Converse for second trimester travel, Balenciaga part time bag in second trimester.

My complete scarf collection (before adding these lovey scarves):

TopJeanswest 'Melanie' Stripe henley in black/coconut
JeansJeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bag:  Balenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Another colourful scarf, and another monochrome outfit to let it shine. I love this bold orange scarf, I'm so excited for all the different ways I'll be able to wear it in future. Keeping things simple I stuck with a similar outfit formula as I wore above. Colourful scarf, long sleeve top, skinny jeans and Converse. Again with the Balenciaga part time bag. I've really been loving this bag lately, being a classic black it goes with everything. Perfect for a little trip down the coast with my boys and meeting up with my parents before going out for lunch.

Because the orange scarf is a big bold single colour, I thought I'd add a print in elsewhere in my outfit, so this striped top was perfect. I'm also realising it's the last month of winter and I still have some winter pieces unworn, so I thought I'd best give it a wear. I'm amazed I'm still finding pieces I haven't worn yet, even after cutting down my winter wardrobe from two big boxes of clothes to just the one.

I was a little wary about the orange and black together. I've mentioned before it's a combo I find tricky as it reminds me of Halloween, but it's something I've been trying out a little more recently. I really liked this outfit, and I'm pleased I gave the orange scarf a go with the black stripes.

Last worn: striped henley, grey skinny jeans, Converse, Balenciaga Part time bag (above). First time I've worn the scarf as it's a recent addition to my wardrobe.

Other ways to wearstriped henley in the office, grey skinny jeans for travel, Converse and tee dress, Balenciaga Part time bag and shorts.

More Colourful Scarves Under $20:

The scarves I'm wearing above are from Fashion Scarf Girl, a local Queensland business. Both are just $10!

How You Can Wear It:

A colourful scarf is a great addition to your winter wardrobe. If you have a monochrome or neutral outfit, it's a wonderful way to add a touch of colour. With a bold floral print, you can pair it with a plain grey tee without worrying a pattern clashing. For a brightly coloured but pattern-less scarf it's easier to pair it with a printed piece like I did with the orange scarf and striped top.

Striped Tops, Alexander McQueen Skull Scarves and Black Pencil Skirts

Stripes are my favourite print, and my go-to whenever I'm print mixing. Stripes just go with so many other prints, like these Alexander McQueen skull scarves. Keeping things simple for winter workwear by pairing the striped tops with black pencil skirts.

What I wore:

TopAtmos&Here 3/4 sleeve stripe tee in berry white

Why I wore it:

This burgundy striped top is such a classic and a firm favourite of mine. I enjoy it every time I wear it. I'd been looking at it in my wardrobe for a while thinking 'I need to wear that soon' but always picking something else instead. Feeling uninspired about what to wear for work, I saw this top and again and decided to give it the wear it needed. It had been a while since the last wear!

Pairing the red stripes with lots of neutrals (black pencil skirt, black flats, camel trench and black Balenciaga bag) made an outfit come together really easily. I decided to stick with a neutral scarf too, and this taupe Alexander McQueen skull scarf was perfect.

Last worn: camel trench, taupe Alexander McQueen skull scarf, burgundy stripe tee, black pencil skirt, MbMJ ballet flats, Balenciaga part time bag.

Other ways to wearcamel trench and sheath dress, Alexander McQueen skull scarf and shirt dress, burgundy stripe tee and maxi skirt, black pencil skirt over a dress, ballet flats and wrap dress, Balenciaga part time bag and chambray.

ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Followed the same outfit formula as the outfit above, but this time I picked a neutral striped henley and used the pink scarf as a pop of colour. The neon pink really pops against the navy coat! I do wish I'd arranged the scarf better so you couldn't see the fabric tag, but I didn't notice until after I'd taken photos!

This navy stripe henley is such a comfortable top, but it does seem less formal than a standard top I'd wear to work. I have a business casual office, more on the casual side (and you see jeans mid-week often). I had a quiet day planned working on a different projects with a smaller group of colleagues, so I figured a slightly more casual outfit worked.

Unfortunately despite the comfortable outfit, I wasn't feeling well and I ended up going home sick a few hours early - picked up another winter bug that's been going around the office!

Last worn: navy macintosh, neon pink skull scarf, navy stripe henley, pencil skirt, ballet flats, Balenciaga part time bag (above).

Leopard Print Scarves, Knits, Skinny Jeans and Balenciaga Bags

When I'm feeling uninspired in winter I reach for cosy layers and jeans. Of course I still want to keep things interesting - that's where my bright scarves come in, to add an extra something to an otherwise simple outfit of a knit and skinny jeans.

What I wore:

JeansJeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black
ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

You may notice a slight difference in this photo - or you might not! Being in such a rush in the morning, I didn't get a moment to grab my outfit photos like I usually do. I ended up taking photos when I got home in the afternoon. After I'd visited the priceline pop up store and had false lashes applied for the first time.

The lashes felt weird. I went home with a goodie bag (including more false lashes) but I'm not sure I'd be able to apply them again myself, as easy as the lovely lady made it look! Still, fun to try something different.

My outfit was designed to keep me warm as it was such a cold day, so polka dot foil knit with skinny jeans and tall boots. I felt that the neon leopard print scarf worked nicely with the polka dots and added a bit of colour to my outfit, as I had my black Balenciaga part time bag. It was nice to spend an hour or two kid free (and I picked up a couple of Christmas presents for the boys!) while hubby took the boys to swim lessons. I really liked this outfit, as simple as it is.

Last worn: leopard print scarf, polka dot knit, Prima skinny jeans, ASOS Cleo boots, Balenciaga part time bag.

Other ways to wearleopard print scarf and striped skirt, polka dot knit and shorts, Prima skinny jeans and logo tee, ASOS Cleo boots and stripe dress, Balenciaga part time bag and chambray.

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit formula in the first outfit so much, I repeated a similar one again a few days later. I realised I hadn't worn this beautiful ombre knit yet this winter, so felt it was time to give it a wear. I stuck with black skinny jeans again to keep things simple, but unlike the first outfit I added a colourful bag with my colourful leopard print scarf. I thought the purple leopard scarf and pink Balenciaga city bag were fun pops against the otherwise neutral outfit.

I was surprised to see that I hadn't worn this scarf and knit together before, I've worn and loved the ombre knit with my purple skinny jeans in the past.

This knit is an open knit, so I layered a long sleeve tee underneath to keep me cosy. This was the perfect outfit for a morning with the boys at my ABA Mother's group, and then a quick grocery shop afterwards.

Leopard Print Scarves Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Neutral outfits are easy to default to in winter. You can add colour to them with fun scarves like these leopard print ones. You don't have to stick to plain kints when you wear them either - the leopard print works well with the ombre and the polka dots. For an extra pop of colour you could do what I did in the second outfit and introduce another colour through a bright handbag.

Embroidered Tops In the Office With Balenciaga Bags

After a rough week of feeling unwell and working from home, I felt well enough to return to the office. I decided to wear some of my embroidered pieces to boost my mood. I love embroidery, but it's been a while since I wore these tops so it was definitely overdue.

What I wore:

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
BlouseJeanswest Elise longline embroidered shirt in coconut blue
PantsJeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
Shoes: Asos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Unfortunately, despite having regained most of my voice the day before, constantly greeting people in the office and explaining that I had almost lost my voice resulted in me pretty much losing my voice  again before lunch time! While meetings were difficult, they weren't impossible. I felt able to follow along mentally even if I couldn't contribute much to the discussions. There was a lot of pointing and gesturing at screens. Thank goodness for being able to use messaging apps to communicate with my colleagues in other offices rather than picking up the phone!

Lack of voice aside, I wanted to bundle up warmly as it was predicted to be one of the coldest winter days, with single digit temperatures. I'm from Brisbane, 8 degrees Celsius is freezing to us! I picked my cosiest scarf, this Louis Vuitton monogram shawl. The night before as I'd planned my outfits I'd tied it so it was more like a snood / infinity scarf. As I shared on Instagram though, it wasn't as easy to replicate on a cold and dark morning. I didn't realise it looked quite so messy until I saw the pics. Oh well, it definitely kept me warm.

Probably could have picked a warmer jacket over this blazer, and maybe not rolled my pants up to expose my ankles on such a cold day. I did love this outfit otherwise though, it was perfect for the day at work, just not so much for a nearly freezing commute!

Last worn: cream blazer, embroidered blouse, Louis Vuitton monogram shawl, burgundy pants, Chelsea leather ankle boots, Balenciaga Part Time bag.

My Complete Balenciaga Collection (updated for 2018!)

What I wore:

Top: Target embroidered khaki tank
SkirtJeanswest black ponte pencil skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

Thought I'd wear this embroidered peasant tank to the office, as I was surprised to realise I'd never done that yet. I love this and wore it a lot while breastfeeding. It's a long flowy tunic length, perfect for lifting up slightly to feed baby but keeping your stomach covered still. It worked well in the office too! I can't believe this is the first time I've worn this top this year, it's a favourite and has been neglected too long.

While I didn't wear the trench coat in the office and swapped to a cardigan, I did enjoy all the brown tones in this outfit when I wore the trench. The scarf looks a bit crumpled from being in storage and I briefly considered ironing it, but just wore it anyway. Creases happen!

Just like the day above, my voice was better in the morning and almost non existent by the end of the day. While the day started off great with a cup of free chocolates and then lunch being provided at the office, my voice and I were exhausted by mid afternoon. I had a late meeting right before I left and my colleague was sliding me throat lozenges across the desk when she heard me trying to speak on the call! 😂

Winter Office Wear: Louis Vuitton Bleu Monogram Shawl With Pencil Skirts And Blazers

You may remember I got a beautiful LV Christmas gift, a classic monogram shawl I'd wanted for years. I had to wait until now and winter to wear it, but as soon as scarf weather arrived I was thrilled to take it out for a spin! It's coldest during my commutes to and from work as it's outside the heat of the day, so the cosy scarf kept me suitably warm.

What I wore:

Skirt: Cotton On 'Mica' mesh spot skirt in dusty pink
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

I wasn't too sure about how this outfit would all work together. I really wanted to try the navy peasant top with the pink pencil skirt, but I wasn't sure if the blue scarf would work with the navy. I'm so pleased I gave this a go though, the different shades of blue look great together.

As an added bonus, the scarf helped hide the makeup spill I had on my top in the morning - I did try wash it off but makeup is stubborn and I didn't have a lot of time, so I appreciated being able to wrap up a bit and hide the evidence of me rishing about in the morning and being my usual clumsy self! The only downside is that it does cover the top up quite a bit in the outfit and makes it a little hard to see, but it's this one I recently bought from Jeanswest in one of their sales.

Ended up having lunch with hubby in the city. I got a call on my way to lunch saying he'd been another office and was near my building so we had lunch together. Was a nice change to catch up without the kids in tow!

Why I wore it:

Just like the outfit above, I'd been wanting to wear this top and skirt combination together. I recently unboxed all my winter things, this long sleeve teal henley is one of them. I thought the colour combination with the blue skirt was nice, but I did worry the top was a bit casual for the office. The blazer helped to dress is up a little, and I've mentioned previously how I really like this cream jersey blazer with the lace skirt, as they have similar colours.

The cream blazer, tan flats and black Balenciaga bag were nice neutral options to wear with all of the colour in my outfit. I've only recently started wearing green and blue together, and I loved the different shades of blue with the teal, from the lace pencil skirt and the blue monogram shawl. Once again, this scarf kept me cosy on the early morning commute. It's part wool, so perfect for wrapping up in on a cold winter morning. I might even have to get my tights out next!

How You Can Wear It:

You don't have to stick with a neutral colour pallette when putting together a work outfit. It's easy to wear a colourful pencil skirt and top together, and still perfect for a business causal office. A scarf, as well as being a winter essential, is another nice way to add some colour to your layers and is easily removed when you get to your desk, so you can be a litle more adventurous with a bold colour or print.
