Monthly Purchases: June

May was a pretty big shopping month for me, so I decided not to buy much in June...then the Iconic had an extra % off sale items. I couldn't resist picking up a maxi skirt I' d had my eye on for months after seeing it on Beth's blog, and of course I had to add in a few extra things to get free shipping ;)

In the end I only kept 3 of the things I'd ordered and returned another 3 so I'm quite pleased I didn't buy too much this month. Definitely going to be doing No Buy July again this year though! No clothes or accessories purchases for the next month. I didn't quite achieve it last year, hopefully I can do better this year! Here's what I bought before starting #NoBuyJuly16.

What I bought in June:

How I wore my purchases:

I have a goal of wearing things twice in a month after buying them. By setting myself this goal I'm making sure I'm only buying things I'll actually use now, and not just store in my wardrobe with the tags on. My wardrobe is full enough already! I'm trying to make sure I buy versatile pieces I can wear a few different ways too. I've started a Ways to Wear series to show the different ways I've been wearing what I bought. Really pleased I managed to wear everything twice this month!

Since we are halfway through the year already, I thought I'd do a tally on my spending so far. (I got this idea from Beth too, it's not just shopping inspiration she gives me!) I've spent a total of $1,510.77 which averages $251.80 a month. Most months, like this month, I'm well under that total. Considering I've bought 3 handbags this year I'm surprised the total is relatively low, but I'm hoping that for the second half of the year I can spend even less.

  3. I always like your little videos. I've actually not bought much fashion clothing this month at all. I usually do a tally during the year of my purchases as well. Since we are about to revamp our living room, I have been more into buying furnishings, and grabbing samples. Considering your bag purchases, I think you did pretty alright. :)

  6. This is the first video that I watched from you and it's lovely to hear your speak. I thought you would have a very thick Aussie accent but surprisingly you don't. I adore Dorothy Perkins and used to purchase a lot form the brand. They are pricey in Malaysia though.

  12. It is a great idea to keep track of your expenses that way. I should probably do that for my makeup as well. And good luck with NoBuyJuly! That is always harder than it sounds.

  15. The maxi skirt is so pretty!

I love the idea of averaging your spending during the year to get a more realistic picture of how much you spend. I'm also curious to look back at last year's budget posts and see how many items I don't wear anymore. That would be an eye-opener!

  18. I really like the goal of wearing your new items twice a month. It is so smart! I actually just started doing a similar thing too. However, before I buy I think of at least 2 different outfit I can wear it with before I make the purchase. This reassures me that I will wear it multiple times and it is versatile!

  28. It's always awesome when a piece you've had your eye on for awhile finally goes on sale and you get it. That skirt looks very classic and versatile and you'll probably be getting so much wear out of after you have it altered. I did a no buy for awhile after cleaning out my closet and discovering a number of items that I had totally forgotten about.

  34. I was just thinking of your "wear two times in the month you buy it" rule! For some reason, I don't always wear things when I buy them. Sometimes, I'm super excited and wear the new item the next day, but most of the time I don't, haha! I need to figure out what my equivalent of that rule is then! (Or what is keeping me from wearing my new purchases more!) I also liked your little video! You've probably done them before and I missed the boat somehow!

  35. Great purchases! I really love that maxi skirt. And what a fabulous idea to make sure you are buying things you will actually wear. I am guilty of overstuffing my closet with things that never get worn. I will have to try your technique. Thanks for the inspiration.
