Grey Tee, Denim Shorts, Acne Pistol Boots | Teal Henley, Striped Skirt, Patent Mouse Flats

Two more outfits created using items from the "wear after baby arrives" box I added to as I outgrew clothes in my wardrobe after pregnancy.

Here's what I wore to spend the day with DH and baby T:
Acne Pistol boots, grey tee and denim shorts
SunniesRayban new Wayfarers
TeeAtmos&Here grey Arizona zip tee (on sale!)
Shorts: Jeanswest denim cuff shorts
Shoes: Acne pistol boots in "skin"

With the spring weather heating up, I wanted to quickly take advantage of the chance to wear shorts and boots together! I really like the combination of shorts and ankle boots, but it's not something you can wear year-round. I actually think I missed my chance, I was getting a little warm with the long sleeved tee in the heat of the day. Maybe with a tank next time.

After I had worn this, I stumbled across Alice from Happiness at Mid-Life wearing a similar designed top, but layering a bright tank underneath and having the zips undone to show the colourful tank peeking through. Such a great way to wear a zip-detail top! Definitely want to give it a go with this tee as soon as we have a cooler day.

Last worn: grey zip detail tee, denim shorts, Acne Pistol boots.

Here's what I wore to go out for lunch:
Jeanswest teal henley shirt french connection striped gathered pencil skirt
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
Necklacecustom Cooper charm by Silhoupette
Shirt:  Jeanswest 'Aubrey' pintuck yoke henley in deep teal (on sale!)
SkirtFrench Connection 'Abby' twisted skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs mouse flats in black patent leather

I bought this skirt back in the second trimester when I felt I was running out of nice pencil skirts to wear to the office. Most of my pencil skirts are fixed waist, only a few were elasticated, so this elasticated waist skirt seemed like a great idea. Despite only managing to wear it a few times before the baby bump got too big, I also reasoned I could get my money's worth by wearing it casually as well after baby arrived. I felt rather over-dressed in this outfit though, felt much too similar to something I'd wear to the office. It's almost an identical outfit to the previous time I wore it to work, just with a different coloured top. Same shoes and everything! I didn't realise that when I wore it, just when I looked up the last wearing of the skirt.

While it was great to get this skirt out again and wear it without a baby bump, I think I'll need to try harder next time I wear it to dress it down and make the look a little less office-like. I have such a hard time wearing pencil skirts outside of work, as I wear them so casually in the office anyway! Do you have any ideas for how to make it more casual? A tank or denim jacket was suggested last time, maybe I should try that next time.

Last worn: teal henley, striped skirt, patent mouse flats.

  4. You are one hot mamma in those shorts!!! Love the casual outfit..Love the mousy flats..super cute..as for making pencil skirt non-office like, what I do normally is pair them with a sassier top for night out or a simple round neck tee untucked for more casual flare..somehow keeping the sleeves short and without collar makes it less office like for me...

    1. I think as I wear pencil skirts and tees to the office anyway it's hard to dress them down further! (I have a very casual workplace, most people wear jeans through the week)

  5. i love the combo of shorts and booties! you're right -- there's not too many times during the year that you can wear them together. i agree that it's difficult to style pencil skirts casually. i think a graphic tee and bomber jacket could do the trick!

  20. Both of your ensembles are great on you. No purse? No doggie? No baby? That's fine. You are an independent woman, right? and you know what blog hops to join, too. OURS = Fashion ITEM Friday!! Cool! Glad you got a kick out the the burglar and her loot. My dd has the greatest ideas. Her first Halloween after having her first boy, she and her husby were caveman and then the baby was a dinosaur! ..hhahahaha funny.
