Trench, Skirt, Bal Work, Matches Fashion Reveal | Belted Jumper Over Printed Dress, MbMj Fran

Here's what I wore to work on Wednesday:

away from blue balenciaga rouille RH work bag

Jacket: Temt Black trench coat
Top: Jeanswest 'Leila' embroidered top (new purchase)
SkirtAsos tailored checked workwear pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in black patent
Bracelets: the usual plus Marc by Marc Jacobs enamel turnlock stripey hinge black and white bangle and Indigo Rose Design black leather Swarovski beaded wrap bracelet
BagBalenciaga classic work in 2006 Rouille

I wasn't comfortable in this outfit at all on Wednesday. Think it shows in the photos too, just not a nice outfit. The top and skirt wouldn't sit nicely together at all, bad combination! Such a shame as I like the pieces separately.

The embroidered top is beautiful, the last of my pieces from the Jeanswest sale. It's difficult to make out in the photo, but it has an embroidered pattern on the top panel. Will try get a better picture next wear.

My Matches Fashion sale order arrived to take my mind off the bad outfit though! :) Did a little video reveal for you.

Last worn: black trench coat, checked skirt, patent flats, Balenciaga Rouille work. First time I've worn the top as it was a recent purchase.

Here's what I wore to work today:

Away From The Blue Blog Marc by Marc Jacobs Carob Brown Fran Handbag

Away From the Blue belted jumper layered over printed dress with skull scarf and heels

Jumper: Supre cream waffle knit oversized jumper
Scarf: Alexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf (new purchase)
DressFrench Connection 'pendragon panache' cap sleeve dress in 'winters day base'
Belt: Kmart thin gold glitter belt
Shoes: Wittner 'Mimi' heels in mushroom
Bracelets: the usual plus Chloe Paddington crystal charm bracelet and Indigo Rose Design waxed leather cream howlite beaded wrap bracelet
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

In complete contrast to yesterday's outfit, I loved today's! This look is completely inspired by (or closely copied from!) Wendy from Thankfifi's outfit in this post, which she left in a comment for me as an amazing example of layering a jumper and dress when I asked for tips.

Wanted to wear this jumper, although it was a bit long, so I figured I could fold it up and the belt would keep it in place. It occasionally fell out through the day so was a little fussy to wear. Next time need to try it with a shorter top! Otherwise I really liked the layering, big thank you to Wendy for the inspiration! :)

Linking up in a few places today: What I wore to Work, What I wore Wednesday.

Last worn: cream jumperFrench Connection Dress, Wittner heels, Marc Jacobs Fran. First time I've worn the scarf as it is a new purchase.

  4. Hi Mika,
It's funny how we can feel comfortable/uncomfortable in certain outfits. I dressed in a certain skirt/blouse last week, felt uncomfortable, and was just annoyed. I took pics for my blog and DIDN'T post them, so I commend you for posting your photos anyway! I like that you tried something different, it didn't work for you, so you plan to wear the items another way!

    1. haha yes if I didn't share what I was wearing every day, this would have been a non-blogged outfit for sure! I'd hardly share any photos if I didn't have the goal of blogging what I wore every day - even the bad stuff! :)

  5. You have the best bags! I love both of these so much. I really like your skirt in the first outfit - sorry to hear you felt uncomfortable all day, that's the worst. I love your second outfit - the layering is perfect!

  8. I like today's outfit too! It's a pain when an outfit doesn't work out like you want, but that's how we learn and get better at this, right?

    1. Exactly! And it was interesting to see that it looked just as bad in photos as I felt in it - usually what I feel doesn't always match up with the photo. A definite "need to do better next time" learning experience! :)

  10. Well at least you're making it work, and it happens with fashion, you aren't going to be comfortable with everything. I think this outfit would look super without the jacket!

  11. I reckon for the first outfit if you could switched out the trench coat for a shorter cropped jacket or blazer it could have soften the whole look. But I do agree with you on TODAY's outfit, I love it too! The McQueen scarf looks awesome on you!

    1. Yes the second outfit was much better! Funny how different I felt all day! And agree, shorter jacket should have been the way to go!

  25. I think the top and the skirt fit pretty well, actually. I have the same problem when I'm taking photos; the top tends to bunch and I have to keep adjusting it. Ah, life of a fashion blogger.
