30 Ways To Wear: Bermuda Denim Shorts: #30wears Challenge Outfits

It's a little odd sharing ways to wear denim shorts in autumn, but in Brisbane the weather usually takes a while to realise it's autumn and start cooling down, so even in March these shorts were still on frequent rotation!

My goal for this past summer was to reach 30 wears with at least one pair of shorts. After buying a lot of new pairs at the start of summer, it proved harder than I thought, as I wanted to wear all my new ones. I mention this every now and then, but 30 wears doesn't sound like a lot until you actually try do it it. You need to wear something every other week for 14 months to hit 30 wears for example. I've had these shorts for 16 months so I'm feeling pleased I managed to reach 30 wears with them.

#30wears: Jeanswest Bermuda Denim Shorts

I bought these bermuda denim shorts in the Jeanswest sale back in November 2016. They have been a summer staple for me since! They were a part cash part gift card purchase. If you don't include gift cards in cost per wear, they were $6.98 so that's 23 cents a wear! If you want to count the gift card, they were $27.99 in the sale so that's 93 cents a wear. Both under the $1 per wear that most people seem to aim for. I'm pleased I got these. They are the 'Trinity' bermuda denim shorts.

When I stopped wearing my blue jeans (haven't worn a pair since June 2017!) I did wonder if I should stop wearing these for a bit too. They are just a shorter version of blue jeans after all! I have so many summer clothes though that I didn't feel these denim shorts were worn so often that I was in a rut with them. It's been interesting staying away from my blue jeans for a while, but I have lots of other colourful denim options so I'm not missing them too much yet. I'll be interested to see how long it is before I reach for them again!

Bermuda Shorts and Tee

A simple and classic summer outfit, a pair of denim shorts and a tee. I think this is a universal summer outfit for most of the world, and definitely a go-to for me. You can also see my love for studded sandals in this set of photos, ha! To change things up a little, sometimes I'll add an extra layer and throw a kimono on top.

Denim Shorts and Kimonos

As mentioned above, I love my kimonos, and denim shorts and kimonos are an easy summer option! I love the simplicity of a colourful tee or tank and shorts with a fun printed kimono, it adds an extra layer to your outfit, a little more interest, and is a good way to change things up slightly. Bermuda Shorts and Printed Tanks

With plain blue denim shorts, it's a good opportunity to wear some printed pieces. I have a lot of printed tanks and it's good to wear them with these shorts as you don't have to worry about matching, they are a blank base to whatever you wear.

Denim Shorts and Print Mixing

Just like the set of outfit ideas above, this is another way to wear printed tanks. The denim shorts mean you can be more adventurous on top, and they are a good base to try some print mixing with. These photos combine the printed tanks and kimonos ways to wear together in one outfit, and were a lot of fun to wear.

Bermuda Shorts and Pink Vest

I like to layer a little in summer, but every now and then I want something different from kimonos. This is where this dusty pink vest comes in. It's a nice light summer layering option as it adds a splash of colour to an outfit without adding any extra warmth, perfect for making a plain tanks and shorts outfit a little more interesting.

Denim Shorts and Green Tanks

It's easy to see what my most-worn top is with these denim shorts! 3 out of the 4 outfit ideas above are the same tank, just with different kimonos! I've really embraced wearing green and blue together, and so wearing a green tank with these blue denim shorts has been a frequent outfit. Khaki green looks just as good as this bright emerald green.

Monochromatic Outfits with Bermuda Shorts

With blue shorts, a blue top is a no-brainer for a quick monochrome outfit. Just like the green tops above, again you can see some repeats here. The navy wrap top has been worn twice with the shorts, just swapping out the accessories to make it look a little different. If something works and you love it, I'm a big fan of repeating the combination again! As someone who loves blue, monochromatic outfits with navy tops and blue shorts make me happy.

Bermuda Shorts and Long Sleeves

Of course shorts aren't just for summer. You can easily wear them in spring and autumn too. In Brisbane it's not that cold for most of the year, so it's easy to wear shorts frequently! A simple way to wear shorts for slightly cooler weather is to add a long sleeved top (even though the first long sleeve outfit pictured is with a dress). If a long sleeve top on it's own isn't enough even with the longer length of the bermuda shorts, you could add some closed in shoes too to make yourself a little warmer. Converse are my usual go-to!

While I'm not a shorts in winter person, I do try and wear my shorts as much as I can through the year - the mild Brisbane weather makes that achievable!

Knotted Maxi Dresses With Denim Jacket and Louis Vuitton Bag: Paddle Boarding On The Gold Coast

I have more maxi dresses in my wardrobe than any other type of dress, they are definitely my favourite! I wore maxi dresses below for two very different days, but the dresses worked perfectly both times. Maxi dresses just work everywhere!

Why I wore it:

It was such a fun day out when I wore this. We had some family visiting who hadn't met the boys yet so it was incredible meeting up with them and introducing them! The extended family headed down to the Gold Coast, and went paddle boarding at Palm Beach. A rain shower arrived at the beach shortly after we did but it turned into such a sunny day, the boys had an amazing time meeting family and playing in the sand.

The neverfull bag is one I frequently take to the beach, although with the rain I did wish I'd picked a different bag. It was handy to have though, held everything I needed and had space to put my accessories in while I enjoyed the water and sand.

The knot in the maxi dress was perfect to stop the hem getting wet and dragging as I wore it on the sand. It's not the first time I've knotted this maxi dress. I like how it makes it look a little different when it's knotted.

When the skies started looking dark again, we packed up and headed out to have a BBQ at my cousin's place. As you can see in the video below, we left at just the right time! I quickly pulled my accessories out and put my jacket back on and felt suitably attired for a family BBQ on the back veranda in the rain.

Why I wore it:

Not as casual a day out this time! I loved knotting the maxi dress above so much that I decided to do it again with this feather print maxi dress, which is on the longer side but I've still never had taken up.

Again with the denim jacket, although it stayed on much longer on this day as hubby and I had an appointment in the morning and most of the day was spent in the freezing aircon. No rain, even though I had my waterproof Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere bag instead of the neverfull tote I'd worn above. I kinda wish I'd taken the speedy to the beach and the neverfull to our appointment! I was glad of the denim jacket though, it was freezing in the aicon, and I needed it, even if I did take it off when we got outside.

Just like the first outfit, this denim jacket and dress combo has been worn together before, but I think if something works, why change it? I'm happy to keep rewearing combinations I like.

How You Can Wear It:

A denim jacket is a great layer to add to a maxi dress for autumn - or even spring! As well as coming in helpful to keep you cosy on a rainy day sitting out on the veranda, it works to take the chill off the aircon when you're sat inside for too long! Knotted dresses are a quick petite style hack that makes any dress a perfect length. Even if your maxi dress is the ideal length for you already, adding a knot to it changes up the look of the dress a little and makes it feel new - even if the rest of the outfit is all pieces you've worn together before.

Foil Print Tees With Shorts and Studded Sandals

While I do like changing things up a little with my outfits and wearing dresses or skirts and adding kimonos and layers, sometimes you just want a casual and comfortable shorts and tee outfit. Both of these tees have some foil detailing on them, which makes them a little more sparkly and makes me feel a bit more pulled together.

Why I wore it:

For a hot and humid day I wanted some light pieces to wear, and these fun soft shorts are perfect. I frequently wear these printed shorts with stripes, I love the print mixing combination. With the white in the print of the shorts, the white tee seemed like a good idea, following the 'wear the same colour in both prints' rule for print mixing.

After grabbing some groceries, we headed out to our local ABA group catch up. We had a change of venue which meant I felt brave enough to wear white around the boys, as they spent all their time running around on the playground. It was nice as it gave me a chance to have a chat without constant interruptions. The main topic of conversation was the humid weather of course!

With the silver foil stripes on the tee, the metallic silver mini MAC seemed like the obvious choice. I've worn the tee and bag together before, it's a nice matchy-matchy combination.

Why I wore it:

I felt like it had been a while since I last wore this tee, so it was overdue a wear again. Just over 3 months, even though I still feel this is a relatively new purchase in my wardrobe! It's such a soft tee, so perfect for a quiet morning with the boys. We had a very quick browse in the opshop where I picked up some winter clothes for them, then we went to playgroup.

This bag is a recent addition to my wardrobe, you can see the reveal video above. It's a Balenciaga pompon in murrier and I think the lilac purple looks great with blue, I've worn it that way before too. Such a nice colour.

How You Can Wear It:

On a warm day, you can't beat a shorts and tee combo for an easy outfit. It's perfect for running around with toddlers. Shorts and a tee doesn't have to be boring though, picking printed pieces like a striped or polka dot tee or printed shorts can add some extra interest. Foil print takes that one step further and brings a little shimmer to your outfit, which keeping the practicality and easy of a simple shorts and tee combination.




This post all about foil tees is a good time to share my monthly purchases. Just one thing this month, another foil tee. I think I have an addiction! 😂 How could you resist this though?!
