Navy Tanks, Jeans and Kimonos

Wearing my favourite kimonos, trying a new outfit colour combination and an old favourite. And also sharing more about what happened when a bird flew into my house, as I mentioned in my Insta stories a few weeks ago.

What I wore:

Navy printed kimono and rubbed tank with burgundy pants, tan ankle boots, brown Chloe Paddington bag | AwayFromBlue

NecklaceZanele 40 handmade rope necklace
Tank: Kmart navy ribbed tank
PantsJeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
ShoesAsos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagChloe Paddington in 2007 Brun

Why I wore it:

This was set to be a busy day. My mother in law came over to watch the boys for a few hours. Before I hopped in the car, as I always do, I stopped for a minute to take photos. Like usual I left the house door open so the boys could watch me and know I was still nearby. Just as I'd taken my photos a flock of noisy miner birds flew overhead and I stood there amazed as one flew into the house through the open door.

Ran in to Toddler T excitedly telling me there had been a bird flying around the ceiling. Poor thing then flew into the window and fell....into Cooper's waiting jaws. Luckily he dropped the little guy on command, and I was able to wrap the injured bird up in a tee that was next to the window. Quickly put him in a cosy little box to rest, called the vet and was going to have just enough time to drop off the bird before racing to my appointment.

The little bird perked up on the way to the vets, was nice to hear him scrabbling around in the box. Was not so nice when I pulled up at the vets, turned off the ignition and he flew out of the box and around the car! After capturing him again and putting him in the box again (much harder this time with him flapping!) I took him into the vets. I'm fairly certain he has no wing damage from Cooper's teeth after he flew around the car, but the vet checked him over to confirm before releasing him. And I was only 5 minutes late for my first appointment of the day, phew!

Outfit wise I really liked the colour combination with the navy and burgundy and brown. I wasn't sure at first but decided to wear it anyway and try something different, and ended up loving this. It's been so long since I last carried this Chloe paddington bag too, brought it out after my bestie wore hers recently. Not a kid friendly bag with the heavy padlock, but nice for spending time without the boys.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, navy kimono, navy ribbed tank, burgundy pants, tan Chelsea ankle boots, Chloe Paddington bag.

Other ways to wearnavy kimono and denim shorts, navy ribbed tank and pink vest, burgundy pants in the office, tan Chelsea ankle boots and chambray dress, Chloe Paddington bag and printed pencil skirt.

Why I wore it:

This is an outfit pic that got lost on my computer- it's from April! As you can probably tell by the sandals. Definitely not sandal weather now, winter has arrived in Brisbane.

To break up the monochrome outfit I added the pink Balenciaga sandals and the printed kimono. I love this grey kimono, it's got so many different colours in the print that it works nicely with so much of my wardrobe.

Unlike the outfit combination, I knew this colour combination would work as I've worn the navy tank and floral kimono together before.

This pic had gone unnoticed on my computer for a while as when I was wearing this outfit I took a picture for a Jeanswest competition on Instagram. Sadly I didn't win, but I did have fun taking over 20 photos as the boys ran around in circles! This outfit picture was in a big block of those photos and I hadn't gone through them to realise I still had an unposted blog picture. Glad I could share it now, as I really liked this outfit.

How You Can Wear It:

A navy tank is a great neutral basic that can be worn many ways in your wardrobe. If your outfit is feeling a little plain or monochromatic, add a printed kimono for some more colour and interest. Picking a similarly coloured kimono like in the first picture is a good fail-safe idea if you're playing with colours elsewhere in your outfit.

30 Wears: Rebecca Minkoff Grey MAB Satchel Bag

Another 30 ways to wear, with an update on #6monthsWithoutShopping.

6 Months Without Shopping: Month 5 Update

You might find it hard to believe but that's the 5th month of my no shopping challenge completed with no shopping! Of course now I've shared the secret for how I've been distracting myself from shopping for these 5 months - I was working on an eBook in any spare time I had. Not that you get spare time often with two boys under 3!

This month I think I've been more tempted by things, there have been so many sales. I'd usually use a sale as an excuse to jump online to 'just take a look', but I've distracted myself with doing something for the book instead so I've never had the time to think about purchases for too long. It's also easy to talk myself out of wanting things when I realise I've nearly done 6 months without shopping and I'd hate to go and spoil it so close to the end by buying something!

And now, 30 wears. Still finding it difficult to identify clothing that I've worn 30 times, I'm featuring another accessory. The Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini that I've worn over 60 times in the 4 years since I bought it. A surprisingly low number given that when I get it out of its dustbag I tend to wear it for a few days in a row. It's such a good bag I usually wear it for a while before thinking I need to enjoy some of my other bags again.

30 Ways to Wear Rebecca Minkoff MAB Satchel Bag | Away From Blue Blog

#30Wears: Rebecca Minkoff Grey MAB Mini (MAM) Bag

I bought this Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB bag back in 2013, before the boys were born. At the time I liked the flexibility of the bag as you could wear it so many different ways: over the shoulder, handheld, and cross body. It's only now I'm chasing toddlers that I'm really appreciating the cross body feature for more than just a different look, it's a very practical choice for a mum bag! The neutral grey mini MAB goes with so many different outfits and I've worn the bag for many occasions too, as you can see in the 30 ways I've worn it below.

Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAB in the Office

The classic shape and neutral colour make the MAB satchel a great choice for the office! It's just large enough to fit in all of the usual things I carry as well as a small notebook, water bottle and snack - essentials for meetings across the city. While my workplace has a business casual dress code, I think this is the kind of bag you could easily wear in a more formal office too.

Mini MAB and Maxi Skirts and Dresses

The beauty of the Rebecca Minkoff MAB satchel is that while it works in a more formal office environment with a pencil skirt, you can dress it down nicely with a maxi skirt or maxi dress for the weekend or stay at home mum style. The rectangular satchel shape of the bag slouches down nicely so it's just as suitable for a casual outfit too.

Grey Mini MAB and Print Mixing

The benefit of neutral grey bag is that it goes with anything, so you can be a little more adventurous with your outfit. You can easily try some print mixing and pair different clothes together, as the bag won't clash with whatever you're wearing. Stripes and skulls, stripes and Aztec print, stripes and stars and even polka dots and skulls. I love my colourful handbags, but you can't beat a nice neutral sometimes!

Grey MAB Bag and Colourful Outfits

Just as a grey bag works in the outfits above when you are wearing different prints, it's the perfect neutral for a more colourful outfit where you're trying a new colour combination. I'm trying to add more colour to my outfits so when I'm wearing two colours I like to opt for a neutral bag. Blue and grey work so nicely together, and continue to do so even when you add in other colours like purple, yellow, pink and red.

MAB Satchel and Printed Dresses

Of course you don't have to be paring different prints or colours together to wear a neutral bag. A fail-safe grey bas is a good accessory with a bright printed dress too. 'Pick a colour from the pattern on the dress to accessorise with' is wise advice, but you can never go wrong wearing a colourful printed dress and a classic neutral bag.

Difference Between the MAB and Mini MAB Satchel Bag

I've used MAB and mini MAB (or MAM) interchangeably in this post. The bag I'm wearing is the mini MAB which I think is better for my petite self. The difference is that the mini MAB is 20% smaller than the MAB. It's the exact same style, just a tiny bit smaller. A mini MAB (or MAM) is 13" wide, 8" high and 5.75" deep. Anything bigger is the MAB. 👍

Grey Rebecca Minkoff MAB Satchel and Monochrome Outfits

A you've seen above, an outfit with prints or colours or combinations of them both can benefit from a neutral handbag. You can try different prints and colours together, or try something a little simpler and wear a monochrome outfit. Black, blue and even orange, a grey bag can compliment a monochrome outfit nicely.

Grey MAB Bag With Jeans and a Tee

Jeans and a tee will always be a go-to outfit for me. A grey tee and denim is a simple outfit, and the grey Rebecca Minkoff MAB works nicely with it too, simple and stress free dressing. I haven't had any denim transfer on the grey leather, even when the bag rubs against my jeans when I wear it cross body. I do spray all my bags with a waterproofer before I wear them though.

Anything and Rebecca Minkoff MAB Satchel

As you've seen above, a neutral grey bag with multiple ways to wear it like this one really will go with everything. You can wear it with jeans, colourful outfits, prints, dresses...it works in so many different outfits. You can wear it year-round, and to multiple activities. It's one of those wear to work, wear on weekend pieces that I wish I had more clothing equivalents of in my wardrobe with my upcoming return to work after maternity leave.

If you've been considering a Rebecca Minkoff bag and haven't been sure which one to get, I highly recommend snapping up the MAB on sale. It's on sale right now at Shopbop, in tan too. It's the first handbag Rebecca Minkoff sold back in 2005 and it really is one of those classic pieces. The video below shows just how much it can comfortably fit inside!

(While the MAB style has recently been re-released, it was discontinued for a while. 2 Different Ways to Wear Graphic Tees And Where to Buy Them For Under $50

First up, exciting news! I was featured over on MyDeal.com.au sharing my top pregnancy style tips!

5 months into #6MonthsWithoutShopping, and I'm really getting uninspired with my wardrobe. I'm trying to solve that problem by picking pieces that haven't been worn in a while, as well as implementing any outfit inspiration I come across as soon as possible.

Below are two outfits with my graphic tees. I was inspired to try them after seeing Sheila rocking one of her graphic tees in an unexpected combination, and it got me thinking not only of wearing my graphic tees again, but also trying some different outfit ideas.

What I wore:

graphic tee and skinny jeans outfit with a pink vest and LV Neverfull bag | Away From Blue

pink vest, Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull | Away From The Blue
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
Tee: Monsterthreads star print graphic tee
JeansJeanswest Bindi prima skinny 7/8 jeans in indigo luxe
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in blackand super cute in cherry print!)
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

Why I wore it:

This graphic tee is one of the newest ones in my wardrobe, and a firm favourite. It was a gift from my bestie and I love the print and colour. While I'd set myself the goal of wearing more of my graphic tees I'd also recently unboxed my jeans for autumn and so have been trying to wear all of them as well. I wasn't too sure if these dark Prima jeans looked too monochrome with the navy tee, so I added the pink vest to break the outfit up a little.

I like adding this pink vest to monochrome outfits, have worn it that way a few times. I felt the vest dressed up the jeans and tee outfit a little too for Baby Boy's specialist appointment at the Mater.

The Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag is the perfect one for carrying around the now pretty big file with all of Baby Boy's medical documents.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, pink vest, moon graphic tee, Jeanswest Prima jeans, gold mouse flats, Louis Vuitton neverfull MM.

Other ways to wearpink vest worn two ways, moon graphic tee and pink blazer, Jeanswest Prima jeans and red cardi in spring, gold mouse flats and maxi dress, Louis Vuitton neverfull and striped skirt.

Perfect for pregnancy: graphic tee in the third trimester, skinny jeans in the second trimester with a belly band, mouse flats and maternity wrap dress, neverfull at 38 weeks pregnant.

Tee: Threadless 'Stone Jungle' tee
Skirt: Garfunkle Australia pleated print skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)

Why I wore it:

I'm still so unsure about this outfit! I'm glad I tried it but am not convinced enough to want to rewear this. This is the outfit I was inspired to create after seeing how Sheila wore her 'jellydeer' tee. I've worn green and yellow before but never paired a graphic tee with this printed skirt.

A very new outfit for me and I went back and forth between liking it and wishing I'd worn something different through the day as I ran errands and took Baby Boy for his weekly weigh. It seemed pretty popular on Instagram though! This skirt is always complimented, it really is so pretty and I'm glad I'm actually wearing it more often now and not just writing that I should.

Last worn: green graphic tee, pleated and printed skirt, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag.

Perfect for pregnancy: printed skirt hiding an early second trimester baby bump, MAM Bag and maternity denim.

How You Can Wear It:

Graphic tees look so good with jeans, but it's nice to mix things up a little and try to wear them in new ways. Add a fun layer like a vest or blazer for some extra colour and a different look for a classic jeans and tee outfit. You can even try pairing a graphic tee with a fuller skirt for a different silhouette.

Wearing Colourful Jeans with Printed Button Up Tanks and Grey Accessories

When autumn weather finally arrived in Brisbane I was excited to open up my boxes of winter clothes - and get my jeans again! I have a little collection of colourful and printed denim so it is always fun when it's cool enough to unbox it all again.

While I do try and stay away from the blue jeans rut, there's no denying that some days just call for jeans! Especially days running around with two toddlers under 3.

What I wore:

printed button detail tank with purple skinny jeans and grey accessories | AwayFromBlue

purple skinny jeans and Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini MAM bag in soft grey | AwayFromTheBlue
Cardigan: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
TankJeanswest Florence print long line tank
JeansJeanswest blackberry super skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

I was so excited to get these purple jeans out, after 5 months of being boxed away. They always get a lot of love on Instagram when I wear them as they are such a pretty shade. It was a colourful pairing for this neutral printed tank.

We spent the day at the army open day and I wasn't sure what the weather was going to do, so layering was key. I took the cardigan off pretty quickly through the day as it heated up, and even wished I'd gone with shorts at one point.

Aside from it being a little warm during those moments when the sun broke through the clouds, this was a perfect outfit. I love the colour, the combo of the pieces together, and how comfortable it was for a day out in the park.

I over shared a little on my Insta stories, but I couldn't resist. The boys had so much fun, especially on the rides. Toddler T was absolutely fearless and wanted to go on one of those giant fairground slides so with a little bit of uncertainty his Auntie and I went down with him to make sure he stayed put on the burlap sack you sit on.  He loved it, jumped up at the bottom and ran back into the line screaming 'again!'. His enthusiasm was the highlight of the day for me!

Last worn: grey belted cardigan, printed button detail tank, purple skinny jeans, black Converse All Star, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag.

Other ways to weargrey belted cardigan with blue outfit, printed button detail tank and leopard print scarf, purple skinny jeans layered for winter, black Converse with blue and pink, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag and printed wrap dress.

Perfect for pregnancy: printed button up tank in third trimester, Converse All Star for travelling in pregnancy, Rebecca Minkoff MAM in the third trimester.

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
ShirtJeanswest Louisa stripe sleeveless shirt (C/O)
Jeans: Emerson red skinny jeans
Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs

Why I wore it:

This is one of the outfits where I liked the idea of it better than the resulting outfit. Possibly because the photo is terrible as the camera is leaning at an angle! 😅 While I like red and navy together I felt there was something missing from this outfit. Maybe a teething necklace, which I forgot to add before I went out the door! A comfortable outfit that I just didn't like as much as the first outfit, even though it's the same outfit formula.

Wore this to playgroup with the boys. Just like the outfit above, I took the cardigan off for a while. It was off and on through the day as the temperatures changed.

Making Maxi Skirts Work in Autumn & Rebecca Minkoff Online Sample Sale

First, the Rebecca Minkoff online sample sale is on now! Your chance to score bags, clothes and accessories at 70% off! A nice Mother's Day gift for yourself ;) Hope you have a happy Mother's Day this weekend.

I wear my maxi skirts year-round, no matter the season. It's Autumn in Brisbane so I'm starting to change my outfits just a little as it starts to get cooler. Layering up pieces that no longer warm enough to wear on their own and wearing one of my thicker maxi skirts.

What I wore:

metallic shimmer foil tank aztec print maxi skirt silicone necklace grey bag autumn outfit | Away From Blue

Aztec print maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff soft grey MAM bag on arm | Away From The Blue
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
TankFrench Connection feather foil singlet
Skirt: Izabel London Aztec print maxi skirt (C/O)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this printed maxi skirt it was a little too warm! So it was nice to wear it on this autumn day, it wasn't as hot and so it was a much better choice. We had a quiet day, went for a family picnic. It wasn't an overly sunny day which was perfect for sitting by the water.

I've worn this maxi skirt with a metallic tank before, I like the combination. It's a simple difference from a plain, block colour tank, but the metallic shimmer is a nice extra bit of interest for an outfit. It works great with the printed skirt without being overpowering too!

Did think that all the black was a bit dull for a family picnic, so added the bright teething necklace for a little bit of colour.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, metallic tank, printed maxi skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag.

Other ways to wearmetallic tank and lace skirt, printed maxi skirt layered for winter, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancy: printed maxi skirt in the second trimester.

What I wore:

Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklace
Dress (worn as top)Atmos & Here Willow printed tee dress
SkirtJeanswest Luxe maxi jersey skirt
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

I adore this tee dress. Yes, it's a dress under a maxi skirt! I find it too short now to wear when running around with two toddlers under 3, and I've always liked layering it under skirts in the past. When I bought this dress I'd been trying to decide between it and a tee in the same print and I figured if I got the dress I could wear it like a tee too!

Was a busy day with swimming lessons and grocery shopping. In hindsight the long maxi skirt was probably not the best choice - it got wet quickly at the pool! I did like this outfit, just maybe shouldn't have worn it to swim lessons.

Although this is another black maxi skirt, unlike the outfit above it's much more colourful with the colourful dress layered underneath and the yellow handbag.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), willow printed dress worn as top, luxe maxi skirt, gold Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.

Monochrome Printed Outfits and Rebecca Minkoff Bags

It's funny seeing these outfit pics taken last month as autumn weather has really arrived here in Brisbane!

Blue is my favourite colour, although I do try to wear others and not just wear it every day! A monochrome blue outfit is always one that makes me happy. You can keep it easy and simple with a dress. A plain basic is a good partner for a printed piece if you're wearing separates, and I'm showing you how to wear both.

What I wore:

Jeanswest 'Chelsea' boho printed dress with rebecca minkoff accessories gladiator sandals | AwayFromBlue

ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale, 44% off with two sizes left! Also 30% off here in all sizes!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

When you're not sure what to wear, a printed dress is an easy instant outfit. It's been such a long time since I wore this dress! Last time I wore it I was actually pregnant with baby boy. It's not breastfeeding friendly so it's been an unsuitable choice before. It was so good to get it out again. No teething necklace needed as the tassels on the dress keep baby amused!

It was perfect for a morning spent with my sister who was happy to keep baby amused while I had my drivers licence renewed, and then we went out for lunch. I even wore makeup to make the photo look better, but of course it's a drivers license photo so I still look terrible in it as you aren't allowed to smile!

Last worn: boho printed dress, Georgina studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC.

Other ways to wearboho printed dress and ankle boots in spring, studded sandals and denim shorts, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and a little black dress.

Perfect for pregnancy: boho print dress in second trimester.

What I wore:

Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklace
Tee: Kmart blue marle tee
ShortsJeanswest 'Scarlette' printed shorts
ShoesBalenciaga studded sandals in sorbet RGGH
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

Had a quiet day when I wore this - a few errands (like picking up a cake!) and then a special family birthday dinner in the evening. I've mentioned a few times when I've worn these shorts that during my wardrobe detox session the personal stylist suggested wearing them with similar colours to create a monochrome outfit. While I've worn it with contrasting colours too, I do like pairing these shorts with other blue pieces. Added the fun pink Balenciaga studded sandals and the colourful teething necklace for a little brightness with all of the blue.

This tee is a 'wardrobe basic' piece that I bought in October. However, this is only it's third wear since then! 3 wears in 7 months really isn't great, especially since I've not been shopping for 5 of those months and have added nothing to my wardrobe. A marle tee is a good basic, but this was my second choice after they didn't have my size in a white tee, and maybe I should have held off for a white one. Will be keeping it in my wardrobe though, just not wearing it as much as I hoped. At $3 though it's not a bad cost per wear already!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, blue marle tee, printed shorts, Balenciaga studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini.

Other ways to wearblue tee and chambray skirt, printed shorts and yellow tank, Balenciaga studded sandals and chambray dress, Rebecca Minkoff MAM and pink jeans.

How You Can Wear It:

Printed pieces make monochrome outfits more interesting as you aren't just wearing a block of one colour. It's a nice way to ease into a monochrome outfit. If you're unsure about the perfect pieces to pair together, a printed dress is an easy instant option that will always look good with any accessories.
