Embroidered Tops In the Office With Balenciaga Bags

After a rough week of feeling unwell and working from home, I felt well enough to return to the office. I decided to wear some of my embroidered pieces to boost my mood. I love embroidery, but it's been a while since I wore these tops so it was definitely overdue.

What I wore:

ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
BlouseJeanswest Elise longline embroidered shirt in coconut blue
PantsJeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
Shoes: Asos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Unfortunately, despite having regained most of my voice the day before, constantly greeting people in the office and explaining that I had almost lost my voice resulted in me pretty much losing my voice  again before lunch time! While meetings were difficult, they weren't impossible. I felt able to follow along mentally even if I couldn't contribute much to the discussions. There was a lot of pointing and gesturing at screens. Thank goodness for being able to use messaging apps to communicate with my colleagues in other offices rather than picking up the phone!

Lack of voice aside, I wanted to bundle up warmly as it was predicted to be one of the coldest winter days, with single digit temperatures. I'm from Brisbane, 8 degrees Celsius is freezing to us! I picked my cosiest scarf, this Louis Vuitton monogram shawl. The night before as I'd planned my outfits I'd tied it so it was more like a snood / infinity scarf. As I shared on Instagram though, it wasn't as easy to replicate on a cold and dark morning. I didn't realise it looked quite so messy until I saw the pics. Oh well, it definitely kept me warm.

Probably could have picked a warmer jacket over this blazer, and maybe not rolled my pants up to expose my ankles on such a cold day. I did love this outfit otherwise though, it was perfect for the day at work, just not so much for a nearly freezing commute!

Last worn: cream blazer, embroidered blouse, Louis Vuitton monogram shawl, burgundy pants, Chelsea leather ankle boots, Balenciaga Part Time bag.

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
ScarfNali feather print pashmina scarf
Top: Target embroidered khaki tank
SkirtJeanswest black ponte pencil skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

Thought I'd wear this embroidered peasant tank to the office, as I was surprised to realise I'd never done that yet. I love this and wore it a lot while breastfeeding. It's a long flowy tunic length, perfect for lifting up slightly to feed baby but keeping your stomach covered still. It worked well in the office too! I can't believe this is the first time I've worn this top this year, it's a favourite and has been neglected too long.

While I didn't wear the trench coat in the office and swapped to a cardigan, I did enjoy all the brown tones in this outfit when I wore the trench. The scarf looks a bit crumpled from being in storage and I briefly considered ironing it, but just wore it anyway. Creases happen!

Just like the day above, my voice was better in the morning and almost non existent by the end of the day. While the day started off great with a cup of free chocolates and then lunch being provided at the office, my voice and I were exhausted by mid afternoon. I had a late meeting right before I left and my colleague was sliding me throat lozenges across the desk when she heard me trying to speak on the call! 😂

30 Ways To Wear: A Cream Jersey Blazer #30wears

For this month's 30 ways to wear post, sharing a piece that it seems to have taken a while for me to reach 30 wears on, this cream jersey blazer from Zara. Last month it was a purple cardigan, so I hope you don't mind me picking another piece of outerwear this month! The winter weather in Brisbane has me thinking of layers!

30 Ways To Wear: Cream Jersey Blazer

30 ways to wear zara cream jersey blazer #30wears | away from the blue blog

I bought this jacket second hand back in 2015, so I've had it 3 years. An average of 10 wears a year isn't bad, especially considering for a year and a half in there I was on maternity leave and wasn't reaching for my blazers. An ebay find, it was $30.50 if you include the overpriced shipping the seller charged me. At 30 wears, it's just over a dollar a wear.

I bought this because I had the same blazer in black and was thrilled to find another colour of it. Whether you call it a jersey blazer or a knit blazer, it's so soft and comfortable to wear. As I tried it with more outfits in my wardrobe, I've realised that this cream / beige / oatmeal colour isn't ideal for me. I definitely haven't loved every outfit I've made with it. My sister likes it though, so I'm passing it onto her.

Jersey Blazer and Lace Pencil Skirt

5 outfit idas with blue lace pencil skirt and jersey blazer for the office | awayfromblue

This is definitely my most worn piece with this blazer. This blue lace pencil skirt is such a fun piece to wear to the office, and always gets a lot of compliments. The base material is a nude colour that's similar to the cream jersey of the blazer, so it's an easy pairing. It lets me add more colours to the rest of my outfit too, with bright accessories.

Beige Blazer and Burgundy Pants

wearing a cream knit blazer with burgundy pants | away from the blue

When I put these posts together I look back at all the ways I've worn things and try group them into sensible categories. It was obvious these burgundy pants would be a category of their own, I do love wearing this blazer with them! I like the neutral cream with the burgundy, a nice colour pairing.

Cream Blazer and Monochrome Outfits

4 outfit ideas: monochrome prints with neutral oatmeal knit blazer | awayfromtheblue

While the blue and burgundy above look great with this blazer, they aren't the only colour combinations I like to try. Being a beautiful neutral that goes with pretty much everything, I like to add this blazer as a layer to a monochrome or monochromatic outfit. From an orange dress, navy top and skirt or a peach two piece set, this blazer works wonderfully.

Beige Blazer and Printed Pieces

3 ways to wear neutral blazer with printed pieces | awayfromblue

Sometimes you just want to wear a fun printed piece without thinking too hard. That's when neutral pieces like this jersey blazer are perfect, as you know the cream shade won't clash with any printed pieces. While it's nice in the office with printed skirts, it works well with the fun statement leopard print jeans for SAHM style too.

Neutral Jersey Blazer and Print Mixing Outfits

ways to wear print mixing outfits with neutral jersey blazer | away from the blue

As I mentioned with the printed pieces above, this neutral blazer is a great companion to prints. Being a basic neutral colour and style, it allows you to be a little more adventurous with your outfit and try some print mixing too! In these three outfits, I kept it simple and cosy by using a printed scarf as a topper for the outfit and as another print.

Jersey Blazer In The Office - With Printed Dresses

5 ways to wear printed dresses with neutral cream jersey blazer for the office | away from blue

As you've seen in the previous outfits, this blazer gets pulled on over a lot of prints! For the office, it's a quick and simple addition to a printed dress. Being a jersey material, it's comfortable enough to wear all day at your desk when the aircon is running a little cold, and it helps tone down any print to make it look more professional.

Jersey Blazer In The Office - With Pencil Skirts

3 ways to wear a jersey blazer with pencil skirts for business casual office | away from blue

Pencil skirts are a staple workwear option for me, so of course this blazer has been worn with a few of them. Just like the outfits above, I've picked this blazer to wear on top of these outfits as they feature printed pieces, and it's such a good neutral. The blazer also works to make a casual sleeveless summer tank more office appropriate.

Blazer And Jeans

4 ways to wear a jersey blazer with jeans - SAHM Style | away from the blue

A blazer isn't just for the office though! The final way to wear this soft jersey blazer is with jeans. It helps to make you feel a little more pulled together than say a cardigan, but is still just as comfortable (and a little warmer as it's lined). The neutral colour works with any colour of jeans, and while I've mostly worn it with skinny jeans it looks great with a pair of flares too!

Accessorising Bags & Winter Office Wear With Printed Skirts

Embracing winter weather and getting my fleecy tights and my knits out for some colourful office outfits. I'm glad I have a business casual dress code at work that lets me be a little more creative with what I wear.

Both these outfits follow the same outfit formula, and despite the different colour schemes in each, I kept the same fun accessory on my bag. The silk 'scarf' tied in a bow on the Regan handle is actually a belt from the skirt in the first photo.

What I wore:

blue green adn yellow colourful winter business casual office outfit scarf on bag | awayfromblue

matching silk skirt and scarf tied in bow on Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue instagram green gold navy blue outfit winter colourful office wear accessorising bag
JacketJeanswest Monica Mac coat in Indigo
NecklaceStarfish Project Hannah turquoise bead necklace
Top: Valleygirl blue knit jumper
SkirtFrench Connection silk leaf print skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

This skirt is silk, so it's quite light, but with a pair of fleece lined tights it was perfect for a cold morning. I wasn't sure what to do with the silk belt that comes with this skirt at first, then I realised I could just use it to accessorise my bag! (Video showing more ways you can accessorise your bags below.)

After trying it in pregnancy, I've been embracing green and blue together a lot more so I thought that this cobalt marle knit would work nicely with the green and yellow in this skirt. I wasn't too sure about the combo after first trying it on, but grabbing this green beaded necklace really tied it together for me and I loved this outfit combo. It did feel a bit matchy matchy, blue knit, coat and bag, with green skirt, bow on bag and necklace, but I do like a little matchy matchy!

Last worn: navy macintosh, blue marle knit, silk skirt, Marc Jacobs ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag.

Other ways to wearnavy macintosh and wrap dress, blue marle knit with magenta bag, silk skirt and teal henley, Marc Jacobs ballet flats and printed shorts, Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag and navy top.

Six Easy Ways To Accessorise Your Bags:

What I wore:

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
Necklace: Kmart Gold and Navy beaded necklace (recent purchase)
Top: thrifted SES fashions mustard marle knit jumper (recent purchase)
Skirt: Garfunkle Australia pleated print skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

As I usually do, copying the outfit formula I enjoyed so much from the first outfit to create this second one. I kept things a little more monochromatic this time around, with all of the yellow. I debated changing out the silk bow on the Regan bag but I think the yellow in the leaf print worked nicely with the yellow in this skirt.

Just like the outfit above, this marle knit is a thrift find too, only $1! It's actually a really orange-y thread with a few flecks of gold metallic, but with the marle it looks mustard - and if you've read my blog before you'll probably know I've been loving everything mustard. I smiled when I saw this, as I had just been admiring an email from Jeanswest with their new yellow heavy knit collection before I stopped by the opshop. Perfect thing to find! The sleeves are a bit long for my petite self, but at the moment I'm just rolling them up before I can get to the tailor.

The necklace is another new piece - $3 in the Kmart sale! I like statement necklaces like this, and I felt the green and blue went with the yellow in my outfit nicely.

Last worn: trench coat, pleated a-line skirt, Walnut Melbourne flats, Rebecca Minkoff Regan satchel (above). First time I've worn the mustard knit as it's a recent opshop find.

Other ways to wearcamel trench coat and burgundy pants, pleated a-line skirt and navy tank, Walnut Melbourne flats and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff Regan satchel and wrap dress.

Perfect for pregnancy: trench coat in first trimester, pleated a-line skirt in second trimester, Walnut Melbourne flats and wrap dress.

Marle Knits Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

While thin open knits like these jumpers might be a spring or autumn staple in other parts of the world, they are perfect for Brisbane winters. A cosy knit isn't just a weekend option, you can easily dress them up a little for a business casual office with a pretty skirt. A statement necklace makes the look a little more formal as well, or you could always add heels, a blazer, and swap to a pencil skirt to dress it up even more.

Winter Office Wear: Louis Vuitton Bleu Monogram Shawl With Pencil Skirts And Blazers

You may remember I got a beautiful LV Christmas gift, a classic monogram shawl I'd wanted for years. I had to wait until now and winter to wear it, but as soon as scarf weather arrived I was thrilled to take it out for a spin! It's coldest during my commutes to and from work as it's outside the heat of the day, so the cosy scarf kept me suitably warm.

What I wore:

Skirt: Cotton On 'Mica' mesh spot skirt in dusty pink
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

I wasn't too sure about how this outfit would all work together. I really wanted to try the navy peasant top with the pink pencil skirt, but I wasn't sure if the blue scarf would work with the navy. I'm so pleased I gave this a go though, the different shades of blue look great together.

As an added bonus, the scarf helped hide the makeup spill I had on my top in the morning - I did try wash it off but makeup is stubborn and I didn't have a lot of time, so I appreciated being able to wrap up a bit and hide the evidence of me rishing about in the morning and being my usual clumsy self! The only downside is that it does cover the top up quite a bit in the outfit and makes it a little hard to see, but it's this one I recently bought from Jeanswest in one of their sales.

Ended up having lunch with hubby in the city. I got a call on my way to lunch saying he'd been another office and was near my building so we had lunch together. Was a nice change to catch up without the kids in tow!

Reveal Of Louis Vuitton Present

In case you missed it, including the short and sweet reveal of this gorgeous scarf, including some ways to wear it and how large it is compared to my petite frame!

Why I wore it:

Just like the outfit above, I'd been wanting to wear this top and skirt combination together. I recently unboxed all my winter things, this long sleeve teal henley is one of them. I thought the colour combination with the blue skirt was nice, but I did worry the top was a bit casual for the office. The blazer helped to dress is up a little, and I've mentioned previously how I really like this cream jersey blazer with the lace skirt, as they have similar colours.

The cream blazer, tan flats and black Balenciaga bag were nice neutral options to wear with all of the colour in my outfit. I've only recently started wearing green and blue together, and I loved the different shades of blue with the teal, from the lace pencil skirt and the blue monogram shawl. Once again, this scarf kept me cosy on the early morning commute. It's part wool, so perfect for wrapping up in on a cold winter morning. I might even have to get my tights out next!

How You Can Wear It:

You don't have to stick with a neutral colour pallette when putting together a work outfit. It's easy to wear a colourful pencil skirt and top together, and still perfect for a business causal office. A scarf, as well as being a winter essential, is another nice way to add some colour to your layers and is easily removed when you get to your desk, so you can be a litle more adventurous with a bold colour or print.

Office Style: Textured Pencil Skirts, Black Tanks and Magenta Balenciaga Day Bag

Wearing my magenta Balenciaga day bag again in my favourite colour combo with navy pencil skirts for work. I just love pink and blue together. I kept things simple with these outfits, basic black tanks and pretty textured pencil skirts with that fun bag for a pop of colour.

It is winter in Brisbane now though so I did add some cosier elements - a wool cardigan and black ankle boots.

What I wore:

jersey blazer, black tank and lace pencil skirt business casual office outfit | away from blue

blue lace pencil skirt and magenta balenciaga 05 day bag | away from the blue

JacketZara cream jersey blazer
NecklaceZuriCollections blue polymer clay necklace
TankJeanswest Brianna basque hem tank
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagBalenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta

Why I wore it:

This is such a simple outfit combination, with the textured skirt, neutral basic tank and blazer. I felt that the magenta Balenciaga day bag added just the right amount of contrasting colour and interest to this outfit.

The blazer and skirt go so nicely together, with the cream base of the skirt, but I wasn't 100% sure on the ankle boots with this. Being so cold in the morning I wasn't up for trying ballet flats though, so ankle boots it was. I think the black tank balanced it all out nicely, and while this is a simple outfit I really liked how it all worked together.

Another thing I liked about this outfit was that it got me closer to my 30 wears goals. Both the jersey blazer and lace skirt are just a few wears away from 30 wears each. This is part of the reason why they've been worn so frequently lately too.

Last worn: cream jersey blazer, black basque tank, lace pencil skirt, black ankle boots, magenta Balenciaga day bag.

Other ways to wearcream jersey blazer and sheath dress, black basque tank and shorts, lace pencil skirt and wrap top, black ankle boots and little black dress, magenta Balenciaga day bag for travel.

Why I wore it:

This is one of the outfits that I don't feel photographed well. I had been planning to wear another one of my jersey blazer with this, but had been eying up my recently unboxed winter cardigans before I went to bed the night before. I woke up in the morning and it was cold and I decided to swap the blazer for this cosy wool maxi cardigan. I did add a blazer in my bag to wear in the office though as I was leading an important meeting that afternoon.

With the wool cardigan and black ankle boots, I felt so cosy for my early morning commute, and I loved how comfortable this outfit was. When I looked back at the photos I don't think they managed to capture it well - but I did have such high thoughts of this outfit, ha! It was one of the best ones I've worn in a while I felt, even if it falls flat on the photos. I think a different necklace might have looked better in the photos.

Textured Pencil Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It

Pretty textured pencil skirts add a lot of interest to your outfit. They don't have to be tricky to wear though, you can easily pair them with neutral basics like these black tanks. Keeping the rest of your outfit neutral allows you to add in another colour to your outfit like this bright pink bag. And of course, many offices require you cover up a sleeveless tank. A blazer is perfect for that!

Printed Shirts, Pencil Skirts and Colourful Cardigans With Mulberry Bayswater

With the winter weather arriving in Brisbane and it feeling a lot colder in the mornings, it gave me the wonderful opportunity to wear two of my newly purchased cardigans right away! I picked up these cardigans in the Jeanswest knitwear sale last month. I couldn't resist getting two of them!

What I wore:

Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in scarlett marle with star print shirt pencil skirt Mulberry bayswater | awayfromblue

Mulberry Bayswater oak NVT satchel | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue instagram red drape cardigan with monochrome black office outfit mulberry bayswater
JacketJeanswest waterfall drape cardigan in scarlett marle
Shirt: Zara star print shirt
SkirtJeanswest black ponte pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagMulberry Bayswater in Oak NVT leather (get it second-hand and cheaper here)

Why I wore it:

You might remember that I already have a little red cardigan. I decided to donate that one and replace it with this. It's thicker, warmer and with longer sleeves. I also I love the button feature! It's got a button on either side of the cardigan you can use to button up the hems. You can use it for breastfeeding, or to change the knit into a cowl neck top. Just wearing it simply here, letting the waterfall drape shine and the red pop against the black outfit.

Cooler weather means long sleeves more regularly too! I'm so pleased to be able to get this star print shirt out again. It's one of those pieces that is formal enough for work with the buttons but casual enough for stay at home mum style with denim. I love how it looked with the pencil skirt.

With the red cardigan being a big bright pop of colour with my outfit I went with a classic neutral tan for my accessories, with my Marc Jacobs ballet flats and Mulberry Bayswater bag.

Sadly, this may be last time I wear this shirt. I stupidly didn't check the setting on the iron and burned literally right through it when I tried to go over it quickly. So annoyed with myself! I'm going to take it to my tailor and see if it can be turned into a tank after I burned right through one of the sleeves.

Last worn: star print shirt, ponte pencil skirt, camel flats, Mulberry Bayswater. First time I've worn the cardigan as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearstar print shirt and burgundy pants, ponte pencil skirt, camel flats and sheath dress, Mulberry Bayswater and chambray dress.

Perfect for pregnancystar print shirt in first trimester, ponte pencil skirt in second trimester, camel ballet flats in second trimester, Mulberry Bayswater in third trimester.

Why I wore it:

It was this navy cardigan I'd seen on the website that prompted my trip into Jeanswest. When I saw the red one above hanging next to it, I decided to take them both in to try on, to pick my favourite. I decided I liked them both enough to buy them! I think this navy will be the perfect neutral to add to my winter wardrobe. I like how it worked with the blacks in this outfit, and just as the red cardigan did above, it kept me cosy on my autumn morning commute to work.

How You Can Wear It:

With a neutral printed skirt and a black pencil skirt, you have an easy and professional outfit for work, especially when you add a classic bag like the Mulberry Bayswater. For a little fun and colour with your outfit, you can add a cardigan just as I have in these outfits here. If your workplace is more formal, just leave the cardigan in your bag when you get to your desk.
