Friday, the day the oven exploded

Ugh had one of those days today! Work was bad, but then I came home to a lovely card from a friend that cheered me up, and I got my Asos sale goodies (post to come soon). Just when I thought things were looking up the oven exploded when we were cooking dinner!  :( Hoping tomorrow is a better day!

Here's what I wore today, casual Friday at work:
Scarf: Gift, Target
Top: Rose pink Dawn tank By Malene Birger at the Outnet
Necklace: Made by a talented friend
Bracelets: the usual
Skirt: French Connection
Bag: Chloe 2007 Brun Paddington
Shoes: Balenciaga sorbet RGGH studded sandals

Closeup of accessories:

This is the lovely card from a friend who I volunteer with at life church on Sundays (http://live.lifechurch.tv/). So thoughtful of her, and it really cheered me up. The bookmark is one of my favourite bible verses too:

Jeremiah 29:11  NIV For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Hope everyone else had a fantastic Friday!

  2. Lovely ensemble!

And those sandals are really nice. They illustrate how a universal design style can act like a canvas from which we can achieve very different shoe personalities. For example, I have a similar pair made from a relatively local California artesan. Same strap configuration, only with black leather and no ornamentation. It's a nice, simple, yet kinetic style. (Pic here, if you or anyone else is interested: http://www.fashionoclast.com/2010/03/cure-for-common-sandal-kiwi-sandals.html)

But take that universal foundation, make the leather pink, and add studs...voila, a perky and feminine style. Ain't design grand? :)

    1. @Frederik - thank you :)

It is amazing how a few different tweaks can make a huge difference to the femininity of sandals! :) I have a very similar pair to this from asos, that are black and studded leather, and again like you said completely different look. It's fun - easy way to find a style that works for you and then get variations of it! :)

    2. Now I'm curious about those ASOS sandals. What particularly interests me from a design standpoint is how a given design can be also be tweaked to be unisex. I'm amazed by how many items of clothing, or accessories, could be made accessible to both genders if only designers put some thought into it.

    3. I did think I should have worn the sandals today to get a good pic of them for you! :P this is them on asos: http://www.asos.com/au/ASOS/ASOS-FLIRT-Flat-Leather-Sandals-With-Cross-Over-Studded-Straps/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1393375&r=2

I'm amazed by how many pieces are unisex - the whole masculine dressing trend fascinates me but I steer clear as I think you need to be extremely feminine to pull it off, and I don't think I have that.
There was one designer who made pieces specifically so they could be shared between boyfriend and girlfriend but I forget the name. Maybe a New Zealander?
Design is very complex when you think about it - changing such simple things can have a profound impact on the target market.

    4. Those are lovely sandals, with or without model. :)

Now I'm curious about that designer. Time to put on the hard hat and excavate a few pixels on the 'net.

What's equally fascinating about the masculine dressing trend is that there isn't a comparable feminine dressing trend among men. There is an exception, however, and that's with Asian fashion. Particularly for streetwear, designers have embraced the concepts of "dandyism" and, to some extent, androgyny for their menswear. It's very interesting. I'm waiting to hear back on some questions I sent over to a S. Korean designer...that should bring some rather intriguing insight!

    5. Good luck finding the designer - I'm not sure where to start looking! Just know there was one I read about a year or two back, when I had my first blog.

Love how different cultures interpret and shape fashion differently - it's lovely to see! :) Also looking forward to hearing the answers to your questions - will you be posting about it?

    6. I agree, it's fascinating to see how culture influences fashion, and vice-versa. I'll definitely post the q & a, assuming I haven't been forgotten in the hustle-bustle of their workload.
